so f**king happy. 2 of my favorite albums of all time (hence my username), and 2 of the records that made me want to start collecting vinyl so i could hear what these sounded like. and now almost 2 years later i finally have them. now i just need to track down a reasonably priced copy of SAW 85-92 and everything will be perfect

Yup, I had no idea they were even repressing them which made it all the more exciting when I was just flipping through and saw them. I think I let out an audible squeal that turned a couple heads.

I have these on pre order from amazon but they keep pushing the date back.
Who else is pitching in for the collector's edition of Until the Quiet Comes?
Listening to mine right now. Its a beautifully presented package, nice hardcover foldout with vivid, glossy artwork. The tracklisting is on some sort of nice stiff translucent paper (sorry don't know exactly what it is) , but its just the tracks and credits, no additional artwork. Would have been nice to have a booklet with some additional glossy album art.
I'm glad I own it but overall wouldn't consider it worth the extra cost. But hey if you like nice vinyl things and have the money go for it.
EDIT: the vinyl itself is flat and quiet and sounds fantastic, but I'm sure that is true of the regular vinyl as well.
As of today we are launching an all new, and easier to use Online Store for all Third Man items. This is really exciting for us here as it means transactions will be easier for fans and there is now a lot more merchandise and special offers available to you via our website.
Because this is a new store, we have to mention first off that fans will need to create new accounts on the new store and that your purchase history from the old (and now defunct ) store will not carry over to the new system. Sorry for that, but it's a one time change, and will make everyone's shopping experience easier and better.
And SO... on to some of the exciting new features!
* We are now the one stop shop for all Third Man Records artists. You can now buy all bands (The White Stripes, The Dead Weather, The Raconteurs, Jack White, Karen Elson, The Black Belles...) merchandise on the same store as all Third Man vinyl and merchandise and you will now have one log in for all these stores. * We'll be offering a new and wider range of Bundle packages. * There will be more online store promotions, such as our discounted Record Of The Week, which launches with Jerry Lee Lewis Live at Third Man. A new record will be offered at a discount every week on the site. * We now sell gift cards, which are currently for online use only! * There will be a dedicated News area just for latest store promotions and news.
If you have any questions or comments about the new store get in touch at sales@thirdmanrecords.com. We're very excited about the changes happening around here inside and out... Hope y'all dig it!

The new Vault package has been announced by Third Man Records. I'm still waiting on the last one (should be here literally any day now) but this one is awesome looking. If you're a Jack WHite fan you have until October 31st to sign up....it's only $60 and that gets you a few other perks (but not much):
This has been an exciting year for us at Third Man with it being our 3 year anniversary and Blunderbuss being released and Jack White touring with two separate bands... So we'd like to celebrate all those good things with our next Vault package.
JACK WHITE LIVE AT THIRD MAN RECORDS DOUBLE LP The LP for this quarter will be a double album recording of Jack's live show, and solo debut, at Third Man Records from our 3 Year Anniversary Party on March 8th of this year. LP one takes in the set with the band of all lovely ladies, The Peacocks, backing him up and LP two is the second set featuring The Buzzards. This is a fantastic and historical live document of Jack White and two fiery backing bands riding off the celebratory high spirits of the evening. The set took in classics from throughout Jack's career and showcased plenty of songs from Blunderbuss, which were heard for the first time that night for many. The LPs come housed in amazing packaging which will be a first for us... a Lenticular gatefold cover! For those of you who may not be well versed in multiple dimensions, the Lenticular cover will show two separate images, in one. What you see depends on how you hold the record or which angle you look at it. We'll spare you the Lacanian interpretation of the multiple imaged Jack and how these images represent the Id and Ego and the recorded product of course, the Super-Ego. Or using the Mirror Stage we can then look at The Real, The Symbolic and the... oh never mind. It looks incredible and you're going to absolutely want to display this cover prominently in your record room or mantle. The LPs, of course, will be pressed on split color Black & Blue vinyl.
JACK WHITE FREEDOM AT 21, LOVE INTERRUPTION, HYPOCRITICAL KISS DEMO 7" The 7" for this package is very special indeed. Three Jack White bursts of inspiration captured in the moment only to be fleshed out in the studio later with a full backing band. These recordings were done on Jack's trusty field recorder, and give an intimate glimpse into his recording and songwriting process. The 7" of demos of Freedom At 21 B/W Love Interruption and Hypocritical Kiss will be pressed on signature Jack White Blunderblue vinyl.
BABY RUTHLESS SHARK INFESTED SODA FOUNTAIN And onto the third item in this package, which is another first. After the last Dead Weather tour in 2010 (that is to say, the last they've done, not the last EVER tour...) Alison Mosshart self published a book titled Shark Infested Soda Fountain of her photos compiled from their adventures on the road as a gift to the other members of the band. Beyond every page being packed with beautiful ethereal photographs, when viewed as a complete work the book is a touching and one of a kind document to the unique love and camaraderie of the Dead Weather and the cast of characters that surrounded them in their international travels. Alison has been kind enough to allow us to reprint this book in it's entirety and share it with the members of The Vault and we are of course in turn, very excited for you to see it.

Since I'm sure everyone cares, let me just say that the Brooklyn Flea record fair is f*cking awesome. I could have spent all day there. Awesome labels with a great selection of stuff, plus plenty of dealers and shops with crates full of cool used albums. Plus everyone there is pretty much amped as hell about music, some great conversations were had. Oh, and there's awesome food and beer, and its right in Willimasburg so you can wander and have fun afterwards. I spent way too much money on records and then spent way too much money on cocktails.
Also that Pavement LP sounds incredible on vinyl, as does The Eraser.
And clearly I meant Thom Yorke not Thom Yorker. No, I won't edit it.
Picked up one of The Nazz's records at Crooked Beat this past Sunday. Been on a big Rundgren kick lately (mostly Something/Anything) and I've never seen The Nazz on vinyl, so it was a match made in heaven. Had to go for it even though the jacket was a little beat up.
Anyway, I got my copy of UTQC signed by Flying Lotus (who was really gracious and psyched and totally bummed me out when he said there was no chance he'd be back at Coachella this year because they "won't let him do two in a row") and Thundercat (who was just chilling there in a huge ridiculous hat that made it look like he was picking rice somewhere). Nobody realized that Thundercat was there and/or who he was, but he was stoked to sign mine.
Also, since I'm BRAND F*CKING NEW at playing records, I have many stupid questions. Here's the first one:
TOTALLY STUPID QUESTION WITH AN ANSWER THAT IS PROBABLY OBVIOUS TO EVERYONE BUT JUGGS #1: - What the hell is with that felt mat? It came with my turntable, is it just to cover the damn thing with when I'm not using it? Or do I put it under the record for some foolish reason?

For static. The felt mat is almost certainly an anti-static mat. Ostensibly keeps the record from collecting little fuzzies on it and whatnot.
Not to mention that if you play the record right on the chrome platter with no mat, that's like beyond bad for the record. It would get so scratched.

I need a different mat then. I think mine is uneven. When I play records on top of it (WHICH I'VE BEEN DOING, JUGGS WAS ALREADY RIGHT AND DIDN'T REALLY NEED YOUR HELP), I feel like it elevates part of the record over the rest - looks uneven when it spins. Am I imagining this?
TSQWAATIPOTEBJ #2: - I need a preamp. Or a new receiver/amplifier. I thought mine had a built in preamp but ti doesnt, so my sh*t isn't nearly loud enough. Suggestions, for either. I don't want to break the bank on this.

Are you sure it's the mat and not a specific record? If the record looks uneven when it spins, the record could be warped. You didn't leave it out in your car or something, did you?
Regarding the preamp, though, I have no idea. My setup is not nearly that high-tech. I just have my record player running into the receiver and then the receiver hooked up to a few decent sized speakers with copper speaker wire. So I'm not sure.
Define "wobble." A little wobble is normal for a run of the mill record. How is it affecting the sound quality?
First, I don't think it was warped (re: karosko). It was a fresh, never been played, never left anywhere even remotely damaging copy of the Capitol pressing of OK Computer.
And, honestly? That's the only record where I really heard it, and I'm now wondering if in fact its just the way the record sounds, only I haven't ever heard the notes coming out this clear and awesome. And it only seemed to happen on a few tracks, so I'm probably wrong on this and its really just the alienating melancholy noise of Radiohead which is making me feel crazy.
I figured you'd be smart enough not to leave it in your car, Juggs, but you'd be surprised how many people don't know that you aren't supposed to do that.
Furthermore brand new records come warped from the factory all the time. So it could be no fault of the end user.
Juggs what kind of receiver are you using? I don't want to sound like a weenie but does it have phono inputs? If you run your turntable straight into a line level input with no RIAA equalization it will sound quiet and bizarre indeed.

No, that's exactly my problem. I need a phono preamp - I thought mine had a phono input, but I was incorrect. Its not a problem, I did some research through some vinyl collecting websites and forums and found that the inexpensive preamps made/sold by phonopreamps.com are actually really good, and ordered one.

good stuff! you'll be in a state of analog bliss in no time.
getting into vinyl and really hifi in general was such a bewildering process for me. thankfully I had tons of knowledgable and friendly people on the Internet to help me out.
you know geeks and enthusiasts in general are just great people. I've been involved in various hobbies, from live music to HiFi to fountain pen collecting to cigars to PC gaming, and generally speaking the enthusiast communities around these hobbies are willing to teach newcomers for no other reason than to be a helpful part of the community.
whenever you are losing hope in the human race, remember the geeks!
