how old are you?
what did you want to be when you were 5? 10? 15? 20?
where do you see yourself in 15 years?
what is time where a simple choice had profound consequences on your life?
would you rather live the rest of your life in a city/town of your choosing that you could never leave, or live in a random, arbitrarily assigned city/town but be able to travel freely?
would you rather get on a plane and move to oregon literally tomorrow morning, or never use a towel again for the rest of your life?
do you play any instruments? any you'd like to learn?
do you want to eventually have kids? how many?
if you are on a desert island, what 3 albums would you bring?
if you are on a dessert island, what is it made out of?
What is your favorite story you've done so far? I got to interview Ernest Cline for my high school paper once. He's probably my favorite author.
What's a story where you were researching or producing it and you thought to yourself, "Well, I never expected to be here." That really hasn't happened yet.
How you feeling after your seizure? I'm feeling alright. Took Monday off to rest.
When did you know you were a little obsessed with music? When I had to explain what I was humming to my parents.
Favorite drink? Not Your Father's Root Beer; Smirnoff (Straight or Mixed)
Hangover cure? Sleep. My hangovers aren't that bad.
what did you want to be when you were 5? 10? 15? 20? No matter what, I've always wanted to be something related to storytelling. When I was 5, I wanted to be a director; 10, a screenwriter. I didn't know that I wanted to be a journalist until my junior year of high school. Now it's just a decision between what I want to cover: sports, or arts and culture.
where do you see yourself in 15 years? I want to be on the radio. I've been told again and again that I "have the voice". I also just really enjoy being on the radio. It's like my zen garden.
what is time where a simple choice had profound consequences on your life? So this happened just after my parents found out I had CP. My dad used to work for the Chicago-Northwestern railroad. After they were bought out by Union Pacific, UP wanted him to move to Omaha. My dad refused, largely because there's not that many neurologists in Omaha.
would you rather live the rest of your life in a city/town of your choosing that you could never leave, or live in a random, arbitrarily assigned city/town but be able to travel freely? I'd rather be able to travel freely.
would you rather get on a plane and move to oregon literally tomorrow morning, or never use a towel again for the rest of your life? I hear Portland is lovely.
do you play any instruments? any you'd like to learn? I can play cornet (basically a small trumpet) and (sort of) drums.
do you want to eventually have kids? how many? I couldn't deal with more than two.
if you are on a desert island, what 3 albums would you bring? The Suburbs; Sound of Silver; and Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not
if you are on a dessert island, what is it made out of? Cake.
What is the one thing that makes you laugh the hardest? I am a HUGE fan of slapstick. I will never not laugh at a Tom and Jerry episode.
What is your perfect pizza? Deep dish.
What is your fondest childhood memory? It depends on what you consider "childhood". If we're talking under-18, going to the London Olympics takes the cake. Fell in love with London, I've been planning a return trip there ever since. If we're excluding high school, being in Boston for the 2004 ALCS and World Series was pretty cool as a baseball fan.
What's a story where you were researching or producing it and you thought to yourself, "Well, I never expected to be here." That really hasn't happened yet. It will, especially if you write for your school paper.
Hangover cure? Sleep. My hangovers aren't that bad. Ah, youth.

The closest thing I could think of in terms of "I shouldn't be here" is being at a football media day and anchoring the newscast the day Tim Wolfe resigned.
I did those things within about 30 minutes of one another. It was rather surreal.

There it is. That's a pretty cool experience. Good on you for doing on-air work. You couldn't convince me to stand in front of the camera in a million years.
I guess I should have framed it as, "How did I get here?" There are so many times that I've reflected on the situation I was covering and thought, "I had no idea this existed," or "I never would've gotten to do this without this job."
How many states have you been to? 33 (IL, MO, WI, MN, IN, MI, KS, NE, MA, NH, NY, ME, VA, MD, MT, WY, AZ, CA, NV, FL, AL, GA, TN, KY, OH, ND, SD, NC, PA, UT, CO, NM, IA)
How many countries (besides America) have you been to? 2 (Canada and the United Kingdom)
When was the last time you crossed state lines? Coming back to Mizzou from winter break.
What's your favorite thing about living where you do? Never run out of things to do.
What's the worst thing about living where you do? There's no train station. Flying out of here is expensive
What artist/band have you seen the most times? The Who, Wild Cub, Bleachers, Kongos, Vance Joy (2x each) What do you want to see, and surprisingly haven't yet? DMA's.
And how many have you been to? I've never been to Roo.
What other festivals have you been to? Lollapalooza and Summerfest.
Also, want to but haven't yet? Roo, Glasto, Coachella
What's your favorite albums of 2015? In Colour.
Best experience at a show? Macca, Lolla 2015. Worst experience at a show? Warpaint, Lolla 2014.
Your thoughts on country music? I hate bro country. Other types I'm cool with. Metal? I mean, I've been front row at a Metallica concert. I don't think I need to say much more. Jazz? I like it, but don't usually go out of my way to listen to it.
Would you rather be outside in rain or snow? Snow.
What's your favorite toppings on a pizza? CHEESE!
Target or Walmart? Target. Home Depot or Lowes? Home Depot Popeyes or KFC? Popeyes Ford or Chevy? Ford
Waffle House, IHOP, or Denny's? Waffle House, the one true answer. Pancakes or Waffles? That said, pancakes. Waffle House has boss pancakes. Is a burger a sandwich? Hell no. It's a burger. They're their own thing.
What are your favorite radio shows? I don't listen to straight-up terrestrial radio as much as I do podcasts. And I listen to a lot of podcasts, with varying degrees of religiosity. I'll break my favorites down by category.
Video Games Kinda Funny PS XOXO I Love You (Kinda Funny)
If you'd think I'd like something, recommend it to me.
Favorites interviewers? print, radio, tv I actually think Seth Myers is the best interviewer on late night right now. Because he, y'know, actually interviews people.
Favorite long form written piece from within the last year? Hmm...there are a bunch. I really can't pick just one. The Coddling of the American Mind was the first that popped into my head.

Do you follow any leagues besides the EPL?
Favorite English team?
Can Leicester City do it?
Favorite This American Life episode?
Who's wining the NFC north next year?
Favorite cheesehead? Top hat, sombrero, or classic triangle?
Do you follow any leagues besides the EPL? MLS and the English Championship. Being so close I'm an SKC fan in MLS, although I still have a soft spot for the Fire by dint of being a Chicagoan.
Favorite English team? Brentford. I fear Benham's moneyball strategy isn't going to work out as well as we hoped. I mean, Dijkhuizen was crap, and I would've sacked him after about five matches. My hope is that we can buy Swift long term from Chelsea and Canos from Liverpool.
Can Leicester City do it? Yes. I think they're the favorites at this point and if they do well the next three or so games (read: 7-9 points) they'll lock it up. Arsenal and Tottenham absolutely cannibalized each other's chances in the North London Derby.
Very specific prediction: West Ham to UCL. They can at least tie the Gunners, they'll beat Swansea, Stoke, West Brom, and Palace, and I think they have chance against Chelsea. Leicester will beat them rather soundly.
Favorite This American Life episode? The pair revolving around Harper High School.
Who's wining the NFC north next year? Green Bay, as per the usual. The Bears will fuck it up.
Favorite cheesehead? Top hat, sombrero, or classic triangle? One that I've knocked off someone's head.

I was on the radio. We had to get dressed up for the media day but I get hot very easily so I did the radio show in a T shirt and jeans instead of a dress shirt and pants.

#FUCKTHEPACKERS Biggest shock of living on your own? I guess the biggest change is actually paying fairly close attention to my finances.
Worst and best part of living on your own? Worst part: I'm really, really messy.
Best part: FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDDDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!
I enjoy not having my parents breathing down my neck.
Who buys your booze? Friends, and my mother, who is somehow very willing to just give me booze and beer.
Ancient world invading army of choice? Umm...I hear the Persians were relatively benevolent if you were useful.
Whats the mood been like on campus since the Mizzou protests? Did you cover them? Thoughts? It was certainly interesting covering them and having to walk past the campsite every day to and from class. I was part of student radio then (as I am now) and I anchored our drivetime newscast the day Wolfe resigned. It was a shitshow because our news director A. had no idea how to handle it (so we winged it) and B. was busy shooing off the AP. But we pulled it off.
How do you like Mizzou? What do you like about it? Have any favorite spots in Columbia? I've had burgers at Booches and pizza at Shakespeares (which might not be there anymore). My grad school roommate's mom works at the j-school as the assistant to the exec director of the Reynolds Institute, if you meet her (Rene Rau) tell her Colin's buddy Josh from Pittsburgh says hi.
What is your opinion on the protests that happened on campus? What was portrayed accurately and what was not by the national media? What do you think of the fallout?
What's your best memory in life so far?
Do you have siblings? If so, how many? Where are you in the birth order? If no, do you wish you had siblings or are you happy as an only child?
