- Taking on the badass known as Sproat Villainy and living to tell the tale. - Most of you have heard this story, but I went to school for finance and economics (which is why I'm so adamant about these subjects in the Election 2012 thread). Math is REALLY easy for me, like to the point I can generally teach myself anything mathematical with an adderal, textbook, and an hour or two. My dad was a trader on the NYSE and AMEX my entire life, so I had an insight to how the industry worked. Then, 2008 happened. The industry I had insight to stopped existing, companies fired everyone and went to automated trading and there were no more 9-5 trader jobs to be had. You were either a cold-calling salesman, an I-Bank analysts or a big shot. I wasn't a big shot (no kidding), didn't have experience to be an analyst, so I went to essentially be a salesman. Call up right old guys and beg them for money (basically, I lied to them about how much money he'd make). I was good at it, but lying to people wasn't my thing. I started asking questions, and at those places anyone who asks questions gets their walking papers.
Fast forward 6 months, I've been waiting tables at an Italian restaurant and contemplating my next move when I get caught eating a scoobie snack by my dad's life-long friend at a party in my dad's old neighborhood. We share the snack, he tells me he drives a CEO of a big-time construction company around, and he knew they were looking for bright young people. I gave him my resume and they called me the next day. I was working the following week, and now it's been almost 3 1/2 years at this company.
Weird how that works, and I know that I may shift industries again, but I have a set of skills that's not easy to get now. I've contemplated moving out to Cali with my friend and running set construction and general site construction at a major motion picture studio, but I haven't started considering it seriously yet.
Which store would you choose to max out your credit card?
Do you have any tattoos? How many & what are they?
Have you ever been bungee jumping or sky diving? Would you?
What did you do for your last birthday?
What is your favorite time of the day?
Where would you retire to?
What was the last thing you bought?
- Um, in terms of furthest distance from NY, I've been to Japan before for a family wedding, but I was 8 and all I really remember is being as tall as grown men. Conor's Pass in Ireland had the greatest feeling of "I am on the edge of the world right now" out of anywhere I visited. - Is there a "buy your plane ticket, hotel reservation and concert ticket in one place" store? Because I'd max out my credit card there. - 2. On my left shoulder I have a Celtic knot that has different meanings depending on who you ask, but the meaning I got it for was "happiness, health & success." I also have throid mé agus bhuaigh mé on my right pectoral. It's on my family crest and apparently my ancestors screamed it in battle to intimidate their opponents. It means "I have fought and conquered" (and yes, the irony of my ancestors being so cocky they would scream they've already won a fight they were still in isn't lost on me) - I've bungee jumped before (on some rickety wooden thing in Mexico), but I've never sky dived. Always wanted to, though. - My friends use my bday as an excuse to throw a massive movie-style party every year. Don't ask me why. Last year there were 200 people there and I'd say I knew 50, liked 30 and invited 20. Haha, my friends now do it as a way to annoy me, which is typical. - late-night - Ireland, Cape Cod, or somewhere not humid. - Last purchase:
Whose side were you on during the initial Nas .vs. Jay-Z beef? Who had the better dis tracks?
Nas & Ether.
To this day I feel Ether is the best diss track ever, and also makes it impossible for me to believe that beef was fabricated to sell records (as many people claim). Ether was on a personal level the likes of which I don't think we've ever seen on a diss record. Yes, all diss tracks will be personal, but Nas went really, really deep. He went to Jay-Z as a child and went all the way through the present beef. He called out Jay-Z's insecurities, his fears, everything.
I'm glad the two reconciled, but that fued rejuvenated Nas and brought us, IMO, the best beef track of all time.
Edit: Sorry, misread your post and thought you asked what the best track in the beef was. Overall I'd still say Nas.

Loved that feud. Every time a new diss track came out it was like "Oh shiz what's he going to say about the other guy now". Watching it go track by track and seeing it evolve was interesting

Wikipedia has a listing of all the tracks where they mentioned one another, in chronological order. Enjoy.

- Great White. - Tim Tebow starting a game for the Jets. - Yes. - Yes. I think the universe is far too big and unexplored for there not to be any other forms of life out there. - Yes. I also will buy them a hot dog and water or something on a hot day. My dad always gave money to them so I grew up thinking it wasn't wrong to do so. I think it's sad some people do think that way. - Hit them. - Absolutely, my roommates are great and one of them is like my brother basically (I've known him for almost 20 years now), but there are times where I wish I could just sit on my couch naked and eat a bowl of ice cream. One day....one day. - Confession: I never, ever, ever, ever go to the movies. Ever. I'm not even remotely kidding. I think the last movie I saw in the theaters was....Jackass 3d? And that was only because we were in Cape Cod and it was basically a monsoon outside so we had to take cover somewhere.
You said that you have the tendency to go on Floyd binges. When you binge, is it within the Syd era, Waters era, post-Waters era, or a mixture?
When did you first fall in love with football? Did you play as a kid/teen, or have you always been a spectator?
- Usually Waters-era. I like stuff from when Syd was with the band, but I really have to be in a certain mood for it. - My dad had a copy of the Jets' Super Bowl III win and when I was 5 or 6 I got him to sit down and watch it with him. Seeing how happy my dad got (20 years after the actual game) was something that stuck with me I guess. I also remember being in awe of how Namath popped back from under center and with a flick of his wrist had a missile going at a WR. I was hooked.
I played up until the last game of my senior year of high school, when I got cheap shot and blew out my knee. I had been pretty much dominating a kid for an entire game, we were a minute from completing the upset that would send us to the state tourney, and he dove at my knee during a meaningless play. I was all set to play D-2 ball, but when that happened I decided to go to business school instead of chasing the dream.

Eh, I realized after freshman year in college that I probably would've ended up quitting the team at some point anyway. And instead of going to school in NYC I would've been going to school in East Bumf*ck, PA. I'm okay with the way things worked out.
-where is one place you want to go but haven't? -who would you pick to play a free concert in central park? -what's the most important thing your mom taught you? Your dad? -hipsters or hippies? -what's your favorite ethnic food? -remember when you said you were being nice? That didn't last very long did it? -what's your dream car? -how old do you think you will be when you retire?

- Iceland - Pink Floyd (all living members involved) - Mom - patience (as funny as it is because of the way I interact on this board, in real life I'm an extremely patient person and rarely blow up or get so angry I can't compose myself), Dad - how to be a man (sounds corny, but it's true, my dad put himself last my entire life so I wouldn't ever have to worry about anything, so I find that inspirational in a way. - In what regard? Who would I rather be around? Hippies. Who would I rather have relations with? Hipster (they're hot and I'm simple, leave me alone) - Is Italian considered ethnic? *ducks from block of provolone cheese thrown at his head* No? Then this is tough to answer. I love food, grew up eating incredible food from all over the world, so I can't really pick a general ethnicity that I like over the other ones. I guess gun to head I'd say my favorite ethnic restaurant in the city is this Mongolian BBQ place, so I'll go with that. - I don't remember saying that, I probably said it while I was drunk. - I used to be into cars, and my answer would've been a '68 Shelby GT 500 Mustang. Hell, I'd even give you the color (silver/grey, and yes this is completely stolen from Gone In 60 Seconds, and no I don't care that I'm copying Nic Cage) - F*ck if I know. The way I see it my life can go in two major directions. I move from NYC and become a bigger fish in a smaller pond and become successful in a smaller market (and thus probably retire earlier), or I stay put and work a bit longer and probably a lot harder, but this is home. So either the normal retirement age, or 55ish if I'm lucky.
Which was the most scary? Which have you not experienced that you fear the most?
Hurricane, flood, tornado, earthquake, blizzard and a rogue wave hit a boat I was on once and capsized it.
I was too young to remember the hurricane, but my mom said she just sat with me in a closet and read to me by candlelight and I was fine. I'd say the rogue wave was scariest.
I think an avalanche would be the scariest, just a wall of ice coming down on you at a ridiculous speed.

-which game of thrones family would you want to belong to? -do you think zombies could actually ever happen? -when you were little what scared you? -shorts or pants? -best era in history? -do you have a favorite painting or sculpture? -coco ice t's wife...hot or scary? -what is something that is overrated in NYC? -if you could change your first name to something else, what would you pick? -camping fest or city fest?
favorite pet of all time? and why? please post pics if you have them.
I've basically only had two real pets, and I loved them both. Sadie was a the runt of her litter (my parents' neighbors bred German shepherds, but when she wasn't going to get them $ they gave her to my parents). My parents got her when my mom was 7 months pregnant with me, so I grew up with her and she was an insane over-protective sister, basically. I don't have any pictures of her, though, at least not on my computer.
Oscar was a basset hound we rescued when he was about a year and a half and he passed away in July just shy of being 15 years old, which is ridiculously old for a basset. He pretended he was stupid so he would get away with stuff, but he's was pretty clever and his entire live revolved around stealing dog biscuits. Anyway, here are some pictures of Oscar:
Basset's typically have bad skin and get rashes when they're older, so we had to give Oscar baths at least once a week to keep his skin from getting infected. One day we were going to get one of our cars washed and saw they had a "Doggy Wash" on the side of the building, and it's basically a car wash for your dog. It was awesome so we just brought him there all the time, and despite his face in this picture he loved it.
And this is oscar rubbing his face on our ottoman, which he did constantly, sometimes I'm pretty sure just to drive my mom nuts.
Bassets are really cool dogs because they have a certain "I really don't give a f*ck about anything you want to do now or ever" attitude, but they're also giant puppies and really loving. And their howls. My God. There's a video on facebook of Oscar howling, but I don't know how to take it off Facebook and post it to Youtube, so here's a substitute:
(Yes, this is really how bassets act...Oscar would wake up from a nap, howl for 5 minutes until someone gave him a doggie biscuit, then fall back asleep)
If you could be a bird for a day, what kind of bird would you be? Why? Where would you go?
How do you normally spend New Years Eve?
Where were you for Y2K?
What is your favorite book?
Have you ever had a nail gun shooting competition?
- Peregrine falcon. I grew up looking for them on bridges and skyscrapers, and once in a while you'd be lucky enough to see one zip out of cloud cover to snatch a pigeon and be gone...all in a blink of an eye. Incredible precision for such a difficult thing to do (I would assume). And I'd fly as high as I could without passing out from lack of oxygen. - I've celebrated New Years with the same group of people every year since my sophomore year of college. The place changes every year, but the guest list doesn't. But overall I do what most people do, get drunk and try to get laid. - I was 15, so I was at a party at my friends house stealing beers downstairs while all our parents were upstairs getting drunk. Then my mom came to give us our "one cup" of champagne at midnight and my friend puked right in front of her. Now that I think about it, that might've been the moment she realized her son was going to be a pain in the ass for a decade (which I was). - Paradise Lost is probably my favorite fictional book. My favorite non-fiction book might be When The Garden Was Eden, and my favorite series of books is the Song of Ice & Fire books, but that might be because that's the only series-style books I've read since Goosebumps. Scratch that, Goosebumps wins. - My uncle was a carpenter and had a wood shop/barn in his back yard, so we used to get drunk and go back there to do stupid sh*t, but never a nail gun shooting contest. One time we did play a game where we were taking a hand saw by the handle, tossing it end-over-end at the other person who then had to catch it by the handle. We called it "the saw game" and my cousin got 22 stitches.
