Don't put anything in the cooler you dont want searched when you go in the bonnaroo gates as that is about the only place they search since they are only looking for glass.
just posted something similar to this in the thread you started earlier. Just because there is a law saying they cant doesn't mean they wont... KNOW YOUR RIGHTS....if not you can end up in jail not knowing your rights were violated and plead guilty when you shouldn't have.
mercy4me: Isn't this decision ultimately based on a situation after an arrest? I was of the understanding that prior to the arrest probable cause for search can be obtained via simple suspicion of illegal activity. Suspicion is achieved when a car drives by with BONNAROO!! shoe polish on it's windows, right? In the end, our car will be flying right with no contraband. But I can't say I'll consent to a search. The best advice is, eat your corn after you get to the Roo, and NEVER consent to a search!

yes but don't argue with a cop about them. you will not win next to a highway. Argue for your rights in court. No matter what you were doing that was or was not illegal or what you have in the car that is or is not illegal, be polite and I would usually consent to a search.
Even though I am a big BIG fan of the fourth amendment, a refusal to let them search tells the cop you have something to hide. And they will than go through a list of loopholes and do a very thorough search anyway. Or you can consent and they will do a quick check and you can be on your way.
but you consenting to the search is the biggest and easiest loophole for them to slip through.... im sure a lot of people dont even realize they can say no. if you consent to the search you cant say a god damn thing if and when they find something. Even if saying no to a search makes you look like you have something to hide, that alone is not probably cause to search. or else that would just be a useless law.
if i had something on me i would not consent to a search because you cant guarantee how quick or thorough the search will be, and if they search when you didnt consent you at least have some defense in court.

You know "probable cause" is them simply saying "i smell pot". yeah. really. it is. shocker i know. i can tell alot of people on here haven't had run in's with the cops. seriously. you can't get out of a possession charge because they did an "illegal" search, you still broke the law and you still have evidence against you that were in your possessions. Say no to a search, okay, they might leave you alone, or they might look at your grateful dead shirt and say bull-shit i smell yadda, or you looked f-ed up, i got my probable cause. trust me. i would know.
My only thoughts last year driving through Virginia and having their state police get me doing 75 in a 55 , was that it was all my fault. The worst part was we where only 10 miles away from TN and we hadn't seen anything all night. But when he pulled me over he gave my car a good look down. However my car was jam packed and looked like it was inches off the ground with coolers inside and all types of things hanging in and around the cabin. Thank god he didn't wanna search . We didn't have anything illegal but putting it all back in car in the middle of the night would been harsh. And we all know damn well they would have called in back up.
6 cars, a helicopter, a dog. Maybe even a bomb squad for the luggage.

Actually, they don't have the evidence against you if the search was illegal. It's called a motion for suppression of evidence. Trust me, I would know; that's what my lawyer and I decided to open up with in my current possession trial. (next date is around the middle of this month).
Interesting side note...I'm actually not even certain if the search they did was illegal at all, because my memory is a bit hazy (this happened very early january), but we're making the motion just to buy time so that if it doesn't work, I can start the PC 1000 (corn aversion program) as late as possible and still be able to go to roo
Yup, when talking to the public defender about what to do with my case, my biggest concern was going to Tennessee this summer.

Haha, i'm kind of in a similiar situation as far as going to roo, but i said fuck it and im breaking parole for those five days. besides, i'm not guilty of the crimes they threw on me. not in any way shape or form.
My only thing about your case is that they may be able to simply say they smelled it(assuming it was green), because i'm pretty sure that around here (middle georgia) that is probable cause. But good luck, a good lawyer is worth every penny you pay them, mine got me out of 2 years for fuck's sake, best 3000 i ever spent.
I know a guy that flat was caught with 4 lbs not long ago. The search was illegal. He was pulled for some bs reason and told the cop multiple times not to search his car. Case dismissed about two weeks ago. Yes he admittedly had the weight on him and it was all thrown out because of illegal search.
It looks like the Governor of California is pro corn.
I was flipping through the channels last night and saw an old video of Arnold smoking a fattie. What's up with that? CNN has been running a lot of shit on legalization lately. Wouldn't life be grand?
