Hey guys! My name is kyle and I'm new to the forums, I just thought I'd poke my head in with a quick review...
I just want to put in a word for the black lips, the self-proclaimed "flower punk" band from Atlanta. They're becoming pretty well known these days with good reason. I was absolutely floored when I first saw them open for the Raconteurs last year, even from my far away balcony seat I could tell they had a killer energy. I was lucky enough to see them up close this past Friday at a small concert in Detroit and it was wild, I really dig these guys.
They've been going since '00 and each new album gets better and better. Their brand new CD just came out ("200 million thousand") and I've had it on repeat since I got home from the concert, it's brilliant if you're into a homegrown punk style. I have to say the new album is a lot more laid back, I like to call it stoner punk, they have some better raw tracks on the older albums (I highly recommend "good, bad, but not evil" too.)
Definitely worth checking out if you haven't already heard of them. I'd love to see them at 'roo sometime!
i saw them open for the raconteurs. it was reallly bad.
Aw man I'm suprised to hear that. Probably a big no-no to say it on these boards, but in some ways I like them more than the raconteurs. I ended up listening to them more than the raconteurs after the original show I saw them open at.

I've been listening to "The Drop I Hold" a ton recently. Such a great song. I can see how they could rub people the wrong way though, they're pretty combustible (remember that whole incident in India.) However I'll have a better grip on them when I see them at Pitchfork.
