um, this is WHY i will be @ crystal castles from that link for Dallas
After witnessing the CC soundcheck, the owner of the club was afraid that CC would "blow up the soundsystem" and the show was cancelled, after three hours of arguing."

Not true. If you actually read everything they lied about that. That club has had all kinds of genres of bands and has never had a problem with it's soundsystem. I mean seriously, are you guys not even reading this stuff? The band is out right lying to your faces.

I will say I saw Cut Copy there last month, and thought it should have been louder. Thats the only show i have seen there. Hopefully they go to Palladiun next time, or if they want to destroy everyone with loudness, then go to house of blues. Disappointing any way you slice it yesterday.
I dunno what to think about this situation...But if I understand the characteristic of a kick drum and frequencies that it uses correctly, than the fact that they had 16 18" and 12 15" woofers is a worthless point. Those speakers wouldn't be producing the frequencies required for what they were complaining about in the first place...the 32 8" are more in the right area but I'm not 100% sure what the top end of those are either.
I saw Mogwai at the Granada and it was loud as f**k. Sounded great.
Regardless of the sound issues, in my mind Crystal Castles should have played. By 10 p.m., everyone was there and possibly from out of town...why would you want to fuck all those people over just because the kick drum doesn't sound right? It wouldn't stop me from seeing them at Bonnaroo though, although I'm pretty sure there will be someone else playing that I'm more interested in.
well ill still be there. i enjoy their music, and i enjoyed seeing them live.
we've heard one side of the story, and as we all know theres 2 sides to every story.
Yeah, the right side, and the wrong side.
and unless we were involved in their conversations none of us know whose telling the truth and whose not.
im just saying none of us know the truth in this matter.
of course the club owner is going to defend his club, and of course the band is going to defend themselves. so in all honesty my guess is the truth lies somewhere in the middle.
^^ it was probably a sound check - the club thought it was more than adequate, CC wanted more out of it. The club probably EXPLAINED that if you push it harder than we risk blowing our system (hence the 'afraid of blowing the speaker' comment being twisted) and CC proceded to request extra equipment...blah blah blah and everything got confugulated. During my research about kick drums though, I found a really interesting article about sound cancelation due to proximity to a wall or other solid structure....If a loudspeaker that you want a kick drum is around 3.5 ft away from a wall, floor, ceiling than you will be canceling alot of your sound....in the range of -3db. Just a thought...subtract -3db from 50 something speakers (never been in there so I don't know how their speakers are set up)
EDIT: AND granada (sp?) did offer to reconfigure the speakers. So this may have very well been an issue they realized, and in the defense of the club, they offered to accomadate (I cant spell for shiz, thats why i went engineering - sorry)
What can we expect in terms of a light show from CC? I guess it doesn't really matter b/c I will be bringing around 600 glowsticks to this specific show, so we can always fall back on that...
I can dig a strobe. I feel like lasers are underutilized in the electronic community. Ghostland's setup isn't elaborate by any means, but in a tent that's one of the best light shows you could ask for
But yes, as a whole, I tend to agree. If a band is granted a late night slot, they should pay respects to the festival and fork out the dough for some good lights/effects
I personally, am PUMPED for this show. I love their album. My favorite tracks are 3, 8, 10 and 11 (I don't do well with names, haha). I think they will really bring it. A great intro to the late night.

what did you like about the show muffinantrees? and anyone else who has caught them live.
im concerned w/ all the negative reviews. from what i understand, alice just kind of shrieks vs. tries to nail the lyrics to the songs and can be a little too wasted from time to time. and is it more of a freak out session rather than dancing, or both?
the self titled album is one of my favorites from the past year, but if phish is raging i'm not sure if i should take the chance of leaving and being disappointed
though phish>crystal castles>girl talk>pretty lights all in one night looks epic on paper.

i heart crimewave, good time, vanished, & knights... the ones you listed.
actually i love the entire album and all the other unreleased crystal castle songs on youtube... my absolute favorites are tracks 1 (Untrust Us), 3 (Crimewave), 6 (Air War), 7 (Courtship Dating), 9 (1991), 14 (Reckless), 15 (Black Panther), & 16 (Tell Me What To Swallow)...
my most anticipated set for roo!!! i can't wait for friday night!

Interesting Story....
I was at a buddies stag and as we were greeting guests.. his cousin comes in, a friend of mine who I high schooled with back in the day, not close but messed around in shop class, anyways I over hear him talking to my friend saying how he just got back from Coachella and is going to roo and I thought I'd talk it up with him and share stories.. well we get to talking and he says he has gone to all these festies.. im blown I asked how he could afford that.. and he looked at me and said..no Ive been playing them..
'What the fuck.. who the fuck are you '.
'I'm Crystal Casltes'
well that blew me out of the water because I was diggin them for well over a year..saw a couple of shows.. actually saw some fellow friends from highschool and didnt put two and two togehter..partly because he changed his name to Ethan.. and had already been diggin them and playing them more and more.. one of the bands that popped were CC when the roo lineup was announced..
he proceeded to tell me all sorts of wild stories of his acclaim to some fame..
amazing as this is the same guy we glued the teachers desk drawers in.. fun times!
so I'll be there..hitting my peak.. REPRESENT BABY!
on a side note.. he also told me the story about the sound check and how they were/are getting a lot of bad word because ppl believe that they didnt want to play.. but "Ethan" told me.. that the speakers were already blown and the manager told them there are no replacements speakers.. so they f'ed that because they didnt want to play with blown equipment...out of the mouth of Ethan himself..
anyways..brothers and sisters.. it will be a kick ass show!

I'll admit some of the accusations are true. She shrieks. She doesn't have the same vocal capacity as on the album. But she makes up for it ten-fold with her stage presence. It was the highlight of my friday. AMAZING performance. I think I'm in love with Alice Glass.
crystal castles was the hands-down worst show i saw at bonnaroo this year. she just sounded like she was meowing the whole time. i was in a great state of mind that night and enjoyed every single show i saw except this one. and i've seen TONS of shows at granada in dallas and there's no way crystal castles was so hardcore that they'd eff up the sound system. i've heard a lot of stuff about the chick in cc being a total prima donna. and from what i heard, she has noooo reason to be. i thought they were simply awful live.

She shrieks a lot. Twohills, you are entitled to your own opinion and I respect that. Personally, the show just got me jumping like mad. But some of my friends didn't enjoy it so much. So, I guess it is a hit or miss with certain people.
