Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
the lineup additions should be in direct response/trying to outdo Roths lineup so i would hope their strategy in doing that is music, not comedy.
Again...why does everyone think that Bonnaroo even views Rothbury as competition? Rothbury is about 1/2 the size of Roo, and it's not even like they're on the same weekend when they'd be competing for people's time. Bonnaroo is in another class from Rothbury - Dylan and SCI wouldn't even sniff a headliner spot at Bonnaroo. If Bonnaroo is trying to "outdo" anyone, it's Coachella, Glastonbury, or (maybe) Lollapalooza.
quite simply because it IS competition? Lolla and Coachella dont really appeal to the same audience as Roo, Rothbury very much does. To say Rothbury isnt competition for Roo is crazy.
The point I don't think is what the 'buzz' will be about. Obviously Phish is huge and they have been waited upon for years and they have never done a festival spot aside from their own since they got big. We fans love them and indeed if they were not on the tic I most likely would not be going to 'roo not that I am not psyched about many many other bands but that fact still remains for me.
The point of talking about the headlining spot IMO is not who is going to be the headliner for YOU the point is who is going to be playing unopposed. Again it goes without saying that any fan of Phish will consider them the headliner irregardless of when they play...I don't think there is really any debate on this....aside of course from people who do not at all care for the band
i guess this goes back to what you consider a "headliner"
To me its simply the biggest name on the lineup that day, so if Phish isnt playing the same day as Bruce they are the headliner of that day. i dont think it really has anything to do with being the last band to play or playing unopposed to other bands, its about who you are.
Yes but for basically ALL festivals the headliner spot of the day is the spot where the band is unopposed. Now in most cases there is no point to this discussion becuase the headlining act is generally obvious because of "who you are" as you say. But in the case of Phish playing 2 nights the schematic changes a little and as we all know in many cases a late night spot is actually preferable, ie. Phil and Friends last year and Phish this year. Granted Phil was on the which and Phish will be What but the point remains the same. My main point was, for purposes of this thread and the discussion of FRi. night headliner, that Phish is not being considered (by 'roo) to be the "headlining act" that evening. Yes they are going to be the act to see that night hands down but are definately not being considered the headliner..period. Unless as spmirish03 says they are changing the format which is cool with me. So basically Candy I agree with you as they will be headliners for me that evening as well but as far as the 'roo schedule goes...no ....or then again maybe the email is to be taken completely lierally and that Bruce and Phish ARE being considered the only 2 headliners which would be a total switch from previous years.
I could also see BB 7-9 or 8-10 and phish 10-? or 11-?
...and let me agree with you one more time and say indeed there is no question that Roth and Roo are in direct competition with each other.

i dont want to get into this again, there was a lot of pages about it already... but the recent announcement from Roo indicates that they may be considered the headliners on friday
heres the announcement
We are pleased to announce that Phish will be performing on the Friday and Sunday of the festival weekend. The Friday show will be a special late night performance and the Sunday show will close out the weekend.
Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band will be performing on Saturday. Look for more details coming soon!
The announcement is titled Headliner Performance Dates Announced! and only mentions Bruce and 2 Phish shows.

yea but at the same time they call it a late night set. in the past bonnaroo has always seperated its late night and headlining acts. unless they are changing the format they will not be the nights traditional headliner.
they arent going to shut down the other stages for Phish late night which means one of three things. 1. Beastie Boys is the friday headliner; 2. Somebody not currently on the lineup is fridays headliner: 3. Bonnaroo changes the format and we dont get the friday night unopposed headliner.
I must say, seeing the Cold War Kids on there, gives me hope they may make it to roo...
Chromeo Black Crowes Back door Slam STS9 Les Damien Marley
All of these would be great adds! If roo adds these I will be extatic.
Me too - they were AWESOME there in 2007- SO hot that part of the day though, this girl next to us dropped flat on her front side....didn't even bend till she hit the ground - face full of sand....I felt SO bad for the poor heated girl!!! Show was KiLLeR though!!! I would LOVE to see them again!
not sure if its been mentioned yet, but Devotcka's tour has a nice gap in it that makes 'roo look possible, not to mention they're with david byrne afterwards. i think they'd be a great add, and they havent been to 'roo in a few years

cool man, thanks for the info i just heard crosby, stills and nash are joining neil young for glastonbury
so so so so so so jealous ahhh!! i would cry if i saw those 4 perform helplessly hoping haha
Having seen both CSNY and Neil Young, I'd take Neil alone before CSNY again. That being said, CSNY was an incredible show and something you just don't have that many chances to see.
agreed seen Neil many many times, CSN 5 or 6 and CSNY 2 I'll take Neil anyday esp. these days

i doubt phish will be going unopposed on friday night because of the other late night acts
oakenfold, girl talk, femi kuti, those once are confirmed. i would bet crystal castles will be late night too altho they dont have as much material. i just dont see them leaving all the tents empty while phish is on, i mean this is friday late night at 'roo. even if phish were over by like 2 am (which is probably an absurd underestimate) there's no way they would wait until then to start the other late night sets.
The Dead would get a headline spot at 'Roo...and Bob Dyaln definitely would, in fact, he did in 2004. The festivals compete not because they are during the same time, but because most people can only afford to go one a year. I would love to go to Rothbury, however I can only afford to go to Bonnaroo. If Rothbury's lineup was out when 'Roo tickets went on sale I would have had to make a difficult decision. In terms of the festivals they should outdo, a) Glastonbury is in another country so I don't think that's much competition, and b) Coachella's headliners are Paul McCartney, The Killers, and the Cure. I'd say The Dead, Bob Dylan, and a String Cheese reunion are much bigger draws than The Killers and the Cure at least.
1. I've been around here long enough to know that Bob Dylan would never headline Roo. 2. even tho Robert is a douche, The Cure puts on a much better show than Dylan. I have a feeling that the Killers will not headline. And you're freaking talking about Paul McCartney.
Yeah, I was thinking that...it'd be really lame if they just anounced the Troo Music Cafe or something. I can't believe 'Roo has the Dead, String Cheese, STS9, the Disco Biscuits, and John Butler. I've seen many shows and the John Butler Trio is probably the best I've ever seen. They don't have any other dates in the US besides Rothbury...really really really hoping they're anounced for Bonnaroo.
Gahhhhh I'm getting impatient.
Here's some advice. See more shows. John Butler Trio puts on a great show, but they should never be no one's favorite show.
Well, I was at Bonnaroo last year...Pearl Jam's up there with one of the greatest shows I've seen. But let's see, I've seen The Who, Bruce Springsteen (4 times), Umphreys McGee, State Radio, Eric Clapton, The Allman Brothers (4 times), Aerosmith, BB King, Buddy Guy, Ratatat, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dave Matthews Band, Yonder Mountain String Band, Paul McCartney, Guster, CSNY, Santana, Derek Trucks Band, Los Lonely Boys, Animal Collective, Bob Dylan, Elvis Costello, The Rolling Stones, Xavier Rudd, Robert Randolph (countless times), The Black Crowes, Gov't Mule, Roger Waters, Cake, TV On the Radio, The Yeah Yeah Yeah's, Brett Dennen, My Morning Jacket, The Roots, Toots and the Maytals, Donovan, Michael Franti and Spearhead...and that's just some of the shows I've been to in the past few years....
I'd say I've been to lots of shows...And so far I have to say the best is The John Butler Trio at the Orpheum in Boston...I've seen them at 7 times and nobody can match their energy...if you've only seen them at a festival you haven't really gotten a true impression of their live show, they tend to play sets of mostly new songs and don't really jam on them at festivals, still, anyone who has seen him play "Ocean" live must appreciate the talent.
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver
Oh yeah I mean Paul McCartney is legendary, I was more refering to the CUre and the Killers...the Killers are 100% headling.
Man, if i was going to coachella, I would be pissed if they were the headliners. They don't deserve to headline anything, IMO. Hot Fuss is a great record, but that's pretty much it.

Yeah, I saw them at Lolla last year. I've been a fan of them for a while ever since Sunrise Over Sea. "What You Want" is pretty much a perfect song.
But that's a pretty impressive list you've seen. If I had seen Ratatat, Animal Collective, or any of those performers you mentioned who have been around for 10 plus years, I'm still pretty sure I wouldn't call JBT my fave show. But you're right, I should check them out at a club.
If you were wondering, my favorite shows are in this order: 1. Rage Against the Machine at Lolla last year 2. The White Stripes 3. Muse 4. Girl Talk 5. Slipknot 6. Holy Fuckk 7. The Raconteurs 8. Radiohead 9. Iggy And the Stooges 10. Silversun Pickups
I haven't seen half the amount of shows you have, but I'm proud of the ones I have.
Biggest Musical Regret: Not seeing Daft Punk at Lolla 07 and missing NIN's Lights in the Sky Tour

What the eff did Ed say? I keep seeing this posted everywhere, but did a google search and came up with nothing. Apparently I shouldn't buy into what he said too much, but still, I'm curious.
A link to the comment he made would be great, too.
