Can we just kill this thread, seriously? People who are way too into one band, and only one band (or one type of music, and only one type of music) are generally obnoxious individuals who suck at life. Let's lock this flame-magnet up and move on.

ha its funny that you say there wont be a lot of phish fans there... at least 90% of the people at bonnaroo are phish fans man... cause like mmj, they are a perfect bonnaroo band.. ha i cant wait to get my face melted by trey.. TWICE!
OP of this thread is friggin ignorant as all hell.
I could make up some crazy claims about Radiohead (whom I like as well as Phish) too.
to diss Phish on a Roo message board.. well, it kind of goes to show how far the message of Roo has strayed over the years. That festival was essentially created by and for Trey Anastasio...
furthermore, it's okay to not like Phish they are a very acquired taste, but show some friggin respect to the band that helped create this scene, and the guy who helped create Roo.
Without Trey, Roo wouldn't exist, plain and simple.
exactly...now can we get this over with.
I'm not a huge die hard Phish fan but I think they are an amazing band and the biggest reason I will be attending Roo this year.
I pretty much dont like people that can't respect others opinions...Phish fan or not.

Eron, you are trying too hard to make sense. Clearly you are just aggravated for whatever reason.
Who are you comparing phish too saying they have a "small following"? That is a ridiculous claim. They are quite possibly the most popular live band ever, the only one I could see coming close is the dead, but i believe phish has surpassed them by now.
If you don't like phish, then I believe it is because you fail to feel and understand how they play. If you enjoy bands just spitting out the same exact thing they recorded on CD then great. But just because it is being played live doesn't make it legit live music in my opinion. Phish shows an incredible amount of creativity and manage to always make their jams fluid, LIKE BUTTAH BABY! They all feel each other and are able to keep it all together.
I am not gonna tell you "oh you don't like phish? well then clearly my music taste is better than yours." Because that doesn't make sense, but phish is the highlight of live music, and you can't change that fact. They will be the largest show at the 'roo I bet. Plus, they are playing twice.
Conclusion is, Phish is great. Not just "ok". And their phans should not be generalized to be some sort of elitists. Because I am not writing this because you don't like phish. But because you are just trying to hate on something.
You should respect them for the fact that they have a great talent, regardless if you can see it or not. They do.

^^^^^^^ Phish has definately not surpassed the Dead and never will my brother. Don't get me wrong I love Phish seen them 70ish times since 1988 but they will never measure up to the fanbase that the Dead has and still continues to amass. The Dead is a bit more approachable, I think, to a wider variety of people esp. the over 35 crowd. Phish might draw in the younger crowd but then again the Dead has and still IS grabbing them young from what I read on this board.
I don't care what you say about me, just spell my name right---P.T. Barnum "As I was walking up the stairs I met a man who wasn't there He wasn't there again today I wish to God he'd go away."

What on Earth are you basing this on. Most popular live band ever? Bands like the Rolling Stones, U2, and Bruce Springsteen have been selling out stadium-sized venues for way longer than Phish has even been playing arenas. Phish had a fairly dedicated fan base, some of whom toured with the band. They only started playing amphitheaters around 94, and didn't start selling out such venues until several years later. Even then, tickets weren't hard to come by - I saw the large majority of my shows between 96-2000, and I almost never had a hard time finding a ticket at face value.
If you don't like phish, then I believe it is because you fail to feel and understand how they play.
It seems like this is the default argument whenever anyone doesn't like anything. "Oh, you just don't get it." Well, yeah. The music isn't for everyone. Deal with it.
Phish shows an incredible amount of creativity and manage to always make their jams fluid, LIKE BUTTAH BABY! They all feel each other and are able to keep it all together.
Obviously you never saw any of the shows from 2000-2004 or so. There was PLENTY of sloppy, unrehearsed-sounding garbage being doled out there.
I am not gonna tell you "oh you don't like phish? well then clearly my music taste is better than yours." Because that doesn't make sense, but phish is the highlight of live music, and you can't change that fact. They will be the largest show at the 'roo I bet. Plus, they are playing twice.
No, Phish is YOUR highlight of live music. And I'm pretty sure their show will be about the same size as Bruce Springsteen's. And what does playing twice have to do with anything? Panic has played twice on 2 separate occasions.
Conclusion is, Phish is great. Not just "ok". And their phans should not be generalized to be some sort of elitists. Because I am not writing this because you don't like phish. But because you are just trying to hate on something.
FYI, as much of a troll as the OP sounded like, you sound worse. You definitely come off like all the elitist, bratty "phans" I used to run across on tour back in the day. Grow up, realize that other people have other opinions than yous and that they will express these opinions via the internet.

woah woah! hey i can respect and agree that the dead are bigger, thats why i said MAYBE bigger, and not that they are. Just because I didn't care enough to look.
I understand phish is what I love, and some people don't agree. I just feel that people who like Phish and the dead listen to their live performances 9/10 times instead of an album recording. I believe this because their true essence is in the live music.
Bands like you list, U2 and springsteen, and whatever else. I just feel are more known for recordings and not live music. Not that I dislike either of these bands, I actually like them. But I don't hear someone go "put on the U2 show from 07/15/99" very often.
Live Band(my definition.. not THE ALMIGHTY DEFINITION): Band that people enjoy more for live recordings/shows than albums. That is what I mean by live band, whether my definition is seen by others that way idk.
I still feel you don't understand
Really I guess my post was misunderstood, I wasn't trying to call out any other bands or anything like that.
It doesn't matter if they did crappy 00'-04'. I am a younger fan (20) so I didn't have capabilities of going to any shows back then, but before that time period and after (like, now.. hampton was SICKK) they have shown great creativity. Don't focus on just the bad times.
Phish is still great and will remain that way. Regardless of how you feel about em'. Great doesn't mean best. Sorry I didn't mean to call out the dead before, I should read that over before posting. My Mom would slap me on the wrist for saying that

I'm a Phish fan. I've seen probably around 60 shows going back to '96. So I understand. What I don't understand is why ANYONE who is a fan of any particular band doesn't understand that other people may not love that band in return, and gets all butthurt when someone dares criticize that band.
And regarding the other bands I mentioned...spend some time with some hardcore Boss fans and see how often they bring up particular shows that they like, remember fondly, or have copies of. You might be surprised.
And I don't know if you used the date 7/15/99 on purpose or not, but that was one of my favorite shows on summer tour '99 - VERY underrated show.

don't think I am angry with you or anything. I just feel we need to get some corn(which i think means something other than corn on this forum...) and discuss this.
