WHAT HOW DARE YOU SAY THE PH THING IS STUPID...IF I COULD I WOULD SMITE YOU.......naaaa just kidding i couldn't smite meg, one of the infamous inforooers....i understand where your coming from, i never understood it either, but i just went along with it, i can only assume, although i never assume cuz it makes an ass of u and me....haha but i guess its just to symbolize the ph itself in phish......idk, im no scholar
Wrong, sir, you are a gentleman AND a scholar!
I thank you (in the best austin powers voice i can)
I currently live in Columbia County, FL (near Lake City) and work in Suwanee County, FL. Suwanee has a decent musical festival each year (The Wanee) at a cool camp ground, but it is a very, very impoverished area. Over 80% of the patients I see are on Medicaid. musicliveshere.com/concerts_events.asp

i live 99 miles from you. i am going to come to your house. can we play magic cards and listen to radiohead and complain about medicaid and poverty? also i want long john silvers so we can go there too.
ps. i love radiohead and magic cards more than you do. its a proven scientific fact.
Just as a general warning for all....music discussions are what we are here for, but let's please keep it civil. No name calling or jokes about forced dosings, ok? Thanks.
Now, I have seen Phish quite a few times since 99. Some shows were unbelievable, others were mediocre, but I always had a good time. I used to only listen to Phish, for a good while, during that time. As Phish wound down after the hiatus my obsession with them did too. I would say that they are the best at what they do, which is feed off of each other and the crowd with their improvisation and they have a lot of fun up there too.
I am also a huge Radiohead fan and have been to a ton of their shows starting in 01. I would say that they are the best at what they do as well. I mean when I talk of best live bands that I've ever seen, Phish and Radiohead are 1 and 2 in my book. You can be a huge fan of both.

i agree. radiohead, phish and the flaming lips. 3 best live performances i've ever seen in my life. ever.
I guarantee thousands of people who didn't like Phish before will walk away dedicated phans. There is a reason this guys have the rep they do. It's not just drugged out hippies talking sh!t. These guys are extremely talented. They create live energy like no one else can. Prepare for melted faces.
See - I don't understand this. I am going into this with an open mind - but - more then likely - I won't walk away being a "phan" (partyly because I think the "ph" crap is stupid) but also because I may just not like them live. I have only found a few bands that I really really like live and they are Metallica, Gov't Mule and Chris Robinson (doing anything). The rest of them are ok - but they are not just mind blowing brain numbing experiences
I think what hes getting at is Phish is more of a band geared toward you listening to them live in concert rather than on a CD. Similar to how someone may not enjoy a band like moe.'s recording, but may enjoy them tremendously when they see in live.
anyway, im totally the opposite when it comes to live music. it is just more impressive to me to see everything laid out in front of me, the people, instruments, speakers etc. im much more prone to like music i am seeing live than if someone gives me a cd and says "hey listen to this" a lot of this is probably because music is very mood oriented for me, and live music really sets the mood as opposed to recorded music which is usually chosen depending on the mood im in. theres very little live music i can remember seeing, even small no name bands in genres i dont particularly care for, that i didnt really enjoy. i can just appreciate the art of it more that way, rather than just hearing noise coming out of speakers. i tried to apply this at Roo with kanye because i dont listen to him but figured the live show could be incredible, but its hard to get a feel for your live show when you dont show up
These threads always seem to end up the same way. Most people consider the original poster to be an asshole and whether or not you like any particular band is up to you however Kanye fuckin sucks.

yeah That virgin fest would be tight...Chuck berry is awesome so is deadmau5, nin, rabbit in the moon, lil wayne would be tight although not a huge fan The offspring would be cool.... I duno Jam bands just bore me, I like to move during a concert not float around like dirty hippies
how dare this board get this big. shame on you people. seriously. shame on all of you including myself for even posting something in this thread. if you dont like phish than good. i dont care. more dancing room for me. but just in case anyone hasn't noticed phish was one of the biggest most influential jambands during the 90's and IMO one of the greatest rock bands to ever have existed. now im sure some of you don't share this opinion but you can't tell me that a band that has made millions and millions on touring in a single year alone is doing something wrong. people bend over backwards just for slight chance of being able to see this band. and you can't honestly tell me that they have a small but loyal following. phish can sellout its own bonnaroo with only them playing it, yes it's true, they've done it before!!!! that is not a small following my friends. no matter how you look at it, these guys have talent. i dont care who you are if you can't admit atleast that than you lack complete experience with music. i respect many many bands that i absolutely despise and can't stand. but as a musician myself i can see where bands are talented and create inspiring (however that may be) music. now i don't blame people for not liking phish. they are pretty huge of band to wrap your head around. in fact it took me years to get into them. i dont think poorly of anyone who hates phish. i just think your an absolute moron if you can't atleast respect them as talented artists who strive to create amazing music. now please lets put an end to this player hating thread. aren't there better boards for this kind of negativity (que phantasytour)? thank you. that is all.
"Disobedience, in the eyes of anyone who has read history, is man's original virtue. It is through disobedience and rebellion that progress has been made." Oscar Wilde (1854 - 1900), The Soul of Man Under Socialism
"You're either on the bus or off the bus." Ken Kesey
"When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro." Hunter S. Thompson
Can't we all just get along and learn to ignore Phish Phans collectively?
Or maybe we could all get along and embrace the fact that we have different music tastes and that Bonnaroo gives us the chance to see some favorites and expand our horizons?
I'm mega-old, and I'll say this. 1.I have never seen Phish and will absolutely be at their sets. I'm looking forward to it. 2. Radiohead is arguably the greatest band in the universe. 3. Overall, the best live shows I've seen involve a man named Springsteen and his band.
There is going to be alot and I mean alot of Phish fans on the farm this year. My guess would be about 50K. That being said, I hate phish fans that dont listen or respect other kinds of music. I think all the headliners will be great.
Is it just me or are Phish fans unable to understand how other people don't think that Phish is that good. I have had numerous people tell me that I don't like live music if I don't like Phish.
Phish is ok, they aren't extremely popular, except among their fans. They have a small, but very loyal following. That is great. They are a great niche band.
We have over 4 months until we descend upon Manchester. Phish fans, please understand that the MAJORITY of people going to 'Roo are NOT going to see Phish. It is quite likely that less then half of the people will be there for Phish's sets.
Phish aren't the first band to come along, and they aren't the first band to reunite when their bank accounts have run low. They also will not be the last.
It is ok to like them it is ok to not like them.
I am not trying to generalize. I am just stating what I have seen in the last 24 hours on the board.
They did sell out a lot of shows, a lot of people go to multiple shows. Phish make a lot of money, I totally respect that. Don't go too crazy basing their musical appeal based on how fast they sold out though. They can't come close to touching Miley Cyrus in terms of selling out concerts. So I don't know if you want to use that as a criteria for them being some great musical force.
They are awesome when it comes to commerce. Definitely one of the top acts of all time. If you want to judge how good a group is based on how much money they can make, then Phish is awesome based on that criteria.
Phish are Phish. Their fans really don't seem to understand that. Some people are going to like them. Most people aren't going to care for them. That is how it works. There is no musician that is going to have the majority of people in the world as fans.
I know that most people in the United States don't even know who Radiohead is. I know that most of the country doesn't like their music. I am glad they don't. I honestly wouldn't want to listen to anything that most people like. It would probably sound something like Miley Cyrus.

My internet's been messed up for a few days, so I've only been able to get a couple post on lately, but I need to respond to this.
First let me say, there is a certain type of Phish fan that meets the criteria you lay out. However any Phish fans that frequent Bonnaroo boards don't fit this bill. They would be over on PT bitching about having to deal with clusterfck that is Bonnaroo.
Secondly, you might not enjoy Phish but any music fan should be able to see their immense talent.
Phish's fan base is small? Please. Very dedicated and not top 40 popular no. Have you been on a college campus in the past 20 years?
You say "They can't come close to touching Miley Cyru"- they would end up in jail, dude. Haha.
Seriously though, yyou say they don't sell many albums and their tours get out-grossed by the likes of Miley Cyrus. Then in the same breath, say they are one of the top acts all time in terms of commerce. What does that mean? Commerce is trade or the exchange of goods/service for money. If they don't sell as many seats as Miley or sell any albums or have many fans, how do they sell the most stuff. Doesn't make any sense, does it?
And if you believe that less than half of the Roo crowd will be at the Phish sets you're crazy. I'll buy you Bonnaroo tickets till the day you die if there's less than 70,000 people at either of those sets.
And people in America don't know who Radiohead is, they've only had like 4 or 5 platinum albums over here and played what is considered by most to be among the top 5 sets ever played at the American music festival this very board is dedicated too.
You're on here talking about how closed-minded phish fans are, but the Phish fans on this board (and there are alllot of them) are excited to see such diverse acts as Phish, NIN, Beastie Boys, and Snoop Dogg, Al Green etc.
You are certainly entitled to your opinion. It's ok if you don't like Phish. They aren't the easiest band to get into. But do yourself a favor, come to Roo eat some corn, and check out their first set. I'd be willing to bet you'd be there for Saturday's late night too.
