I think you totally miss the point of my post. I honestly don't give a damn what people think about my music or me. I know tons of people post that, but, if you knew me, you would realize that I actually don't. Hate me, love me, whatever. Honestly it doesn't change my day.
I would like to be able to post a statement about Phish without a discussion devolving into a bunch of people calling me names.
I made a post about how Bruce Springsteen has sold more albums and is better known then Phish. That isn't an opinion. It is a fact. yet I was told that I was a noob and that I didn't know anything about live music. Look I couldn't care less about what those posters think about me, but I would like to have DISCUSSIONS on the forum (which can also, not very ironically be called a DISCUSSION BOARD).
I do listen to a lot of college radio. I also listen to a lot of independent music blogs. I listen to music from any source I can. I live in a very impoverished and uneducated area of the country. There really are not people here to hang out with that have any education past High School, except others in the medical field. Trust me, even most of them just listen to country music. I am sorry if I can't hang out with a bunch of friends and swap CDs to get all my music listening. If I did I would be listening to Gretchen Wilson all the time.
I am not being passive-aggressive, but I believe that the Phans response to my post, proves my initial point. This isn't a Phish message board. I am not going there and saying they suck. Heck, I didn't even say they suck or insult them. I said that I didn't like their music and that they are reuniting to make money. Both of those are FACTS. I can't be wrong about my opinion. Obviously they are reuniting for money or they would just get together and play in someone's basement. I get paid for my job, why shouldn't they?
I have nothing against Phish. Their fans just don't seem to realize they are not gods to the majority of people on this board or anywhere outside of the Phish realm. If I make a statement that Bruce Springsteen is more popular then Phish, and you disagree, lets have a discussion on it. I don't need to be insulted by poster after poster when I didn't even insult Phish.

where do you live eron?
I currently live in Columbia County, FL (near Lake City) and work in Suwanee County, FL. Suwanee has a decent musical festival each year (The Wanee) at a cool camp ground, but it is a very, very impoverished area. Over 80% of the patients I see are on Medicaid. musicliveshere.com/concerts_events.asp
I hear ya. It's not that I dislike them, I have tried many times to listen. It just does not grab me in any way. At the very most I have enjoyed Trey's on guitar. I just really don't enjoy him singing all. I do however, respect them as a band and a creative force.
I have to say I never thought I'd be on a bonnaroo board and see this many people who don't like phish. Not pre '06 anyway.
I agree. Pretty unusual. I guess it's b/c of Bonnaroo's transition from jamband festival to a more eclectic line up. I love me some Phish, but I'm all about other genres. I guarantee thousands of people who didn't like Phish before will walk away dedicated phans. There is a reason this guys have the rep they do. It's not just drugged out hippies talking sh!t. These guys are extremely talented. They create live energy like no one else can. Prepare for melted faces.

See - I don't understand this. I am going into this with an open mind - but - more then likely - I won't walk away being a "phan" (partyly because I think the "ph" crap is stupid) but also because I may just not like them live. I have only found a few bands that I really really like live and they are Metallica, Gov't Mule and Chris Robinson (doing anything). The rest of them are ok - but they are not just mind blowing brain numbing experiences

I don't like Phish, but as a peace offering I did use one of their songs in a skit I wrote in high school for a showcase. Someone suggested it, it fit the scene, and I added it. I don't even remember which one it was now because that was a long freakin time ago.

You're not a huge live music fan, yet you go to all the trouble of going to Roo?
it has been stated in many a other thread....part of bonnaroo is the enviroment, people, vibe...she may not be too into live music...but she loves to be with us ;D

Is it just me, or are Phish fans . . . going to be totally vindicated by June 14th?
I've never seen Phish, I'm only a casual fan, and I might only attend one of their two shows. But I am fully expecting it to be amazing. I know a lot of people who's musical opinion I respect (many from this board, in fact) that love Phish and swear by their live shows.
Anyone want to start a "Puddle Eron before Phish's Late Night Set" petition? The metal image of a moustached guy wearing skinny jeans with PBR cans all around him, curled up in the fetal position, screaming for Thom Yorke's soothing falsetto during the EPIC 2001 opener is just too funny not to throw it out there.
ps. im strongly against forced dosings, but the image of some hipster bro that knows it all because he reads indie music blogs doing everything he can to hold on to reality while Trey melts his face and Cactus vibrates his chakras is hilarious...you have to admit that.
I don't care if you like them or not, but you best respect them. Souls will be pwn'd at that late night. Mark my words.
Phish fans...they rage harder than you do.
Honestly, why do I have to respect them? They play different songs every night. OK lots of bands do that. They play their songs differently every night. Well most bands would call that F'ing up.
I respect the fact that they seem to respect the dollar, which is kinda cool, because all their fans seem so self righteous.

We'd get along well
We'll have to grab a beer in the campground during Phish

yup - I go there and I enjoy it - but I tend to find most bands lacking when I finally see them live.
I don't understand why you would say that - it seems that you think that you have to be a huge live music fan to enjoy Bonnaroo. Not true - I do enjoy the music, the people watching, the dancing, my friends and the general atmosphere. I don't go to Bonnaroo solely for the music.

im not a superbig jam band lover either but to say this is ridiculous. bonneroo roots are true blue 100% jamband roots. look at like the lineup for the first 4 years or so. bonneroo will always have a lot of jam bands and thats the way it should be.

you'd be perfect for this place
Lineup-wise, that actually looks pretty awesome - Iggy and The Stooges, Soulwax, Erol Alkan, Cat Power, Jack Johnson, Bob Dylan, Gogol Bordello, The Swell Season, Bloc Party, et cetera.... but I've heard some horrendous things about the vibe at Virgin Fest.

Didn't mean any disrespect by it--I just found it strange so I asked about it.
Personally, I couldn't imagine spending the amount of money and hanging out in the intense heat if I didn't love live music.
As long as you're having a good time, all is well.
