I would agree that Anti-flag doesnt fit the farm....but quack I have never been to a show with more energy than an Anti-Flag show.
Yeah, A-F was my first show ever, and they do have crazy energy. At an encore in Cincy, they started F*ck the Flag, and they stopped it within the first couple seconds. Separated the crowd down the middle of the concert hall, and right when they started singing everybody rushed at each other. Pretty awesome.
The show with the most energy I have ever been to was probably Flogging Molly or Against Me! Those guys bring it every time.
2/5- Papadosio 3/3- MUSE 3/12- John Mayer 3/19- The Werks 3/31- Passion Pit 4/18- Ben Folds 4/20- Against Me! 6/10- Bonnaroo 6/30- Eric Clapton and Roger Daltrey

^^^ Oh shit, I didn't even see you were from pittsburgh.
Those shows must be insane. Does Spaz still go to their shows?
I stopped listening to A-F after they released For Blood and Empire. I liked everything up to Terror State. After For Blood and Empire, we went our separate ways. But they introduced me to Against Me! You should definitely check out their shows whenever possible.

Last time I saw them he came out and did Die for your Government with them...it was a good time.
Definetly gonna check out an Against Me! show if they come around here

threads like this make me happy i listen to a lot more experimental/psychedelic/progressive music more than punk. pretty much if it sounds weird you can throw it in there and no one is going to argue with you.
i know i like punk, but i have no idea what real punk is i guess.
I'm sure the folks at Roo love getting emails like this from people.
Bonnaroo email reader 1: "Jeezus...here's another a$$hole writing to tell us how he's very disappointed so & so isn't on the lineup."
Bonnaroo email reader 2: "Fuck! Just send him the generic "stay tuned" email so he can think we really give a fuck what he thinks. He'll probably think it's so cool we replied at all he'll go make a whole thread about it on that gawddamn Inforoo."
I second the suggestion of getting Henry Rollins to do double-duty between the music & comedy tents. I know it's not billed as comedy, but I could definitely see one of his spoken word shows taking place in the comedy tent.
Nirvana was not grunge in any way, shape or form, nor did they have the biggest impact on the grunge movement which was around more than a half-decade before they came onto the scene.

^^ This is more or less right.
Here's how it breaks down. Grunge was an offshoot of punk-rock in the mid 80's. Band like Green River, early Soundgarden, Mudhoney, The Melvins etc were the TRUE (not trying to be arrogant here) grunge bands. Nirvana released Bleach, their only real grunge album, towards the end of the grunge scene. Nirvana was most definitely part of the Seattle music scene that spawned grunge, however, they were one of the less grungy bands of the scene.
Around came the early 90's and Nevermind was released. We all know what happened there. Every band in Seattle seemingly got signed. The grunge label was applied to nearly every distorted band in that time. Pearl Jam, STP, later Soundgarden and Nirvana in their later stages weren't even close to the grunge of the 80's. They were just straight ahead rock bands. They didn't sound like the rock bands of the past, though, so the term Alternative was born.
So in short, Nirvana is both sort of grunge and sort of punk, but not entirely anything.
As a Pittsburgher, I love Anti Flag on record, but I was very dissapointed when I saw them at Warped Tour a few years back. When you have a 30 minute set... I'd hope you can get 4-5-6 songs in. However, I timed Anti Flag playing 2 songs for about ten minutes and preaching politics for the other 20 minutes.
As for punk music (I didn't read all 6 pages yet)...
Has anyone thought that maybe the special stage will be devoted to only punk bands? Last year was New Orlean Blues/Jazz, so why couldn't this year be upcoming punk bands? F***ed Up, Gaslight Anthem, Jay Reatard, Streetlight Manifesto, etc. would be excellent for the bill. And maybe add a mini headliner like Violent Femmes, NOFX, Rancid, etc. to cap the stage off.
On top of what I said... I guess I'm not really ever excited about the "special" stage. I consider it 10 additions that would never wow me. Not saying I don't like New Orleans Jazz/Blues, and I'd kill some time checking out the bands, but it's nothing that really excites me. But a special stage like a punk stage, ska stage, electronica stage, etc. would really make for some excellent additions.

Where u from in Pittsburgh?
South Hills... I'm at college now in Washington, Pa. How bout you?
Nirvana? you mean the band that had the biggest impact on the GRUNGE movement?
Watch the video and tell me thats not punk. Kurt's biggest influence were punk rock. He considered Nirvana to be punk. That doesn't mean he can't be grunge at the same time. The only difference between Nirvana and alot of the punk bands out there is that Nirvana's good.
