i know in 07 they broke all their retail and sales projections by A LOT...as in they'd recouped all their numbers by saturday. 08 also went pretty well (although i don't have the stats on that year), so in my mind there's no chance that 09 will be canceled. as for tickets selling out, in both 07 and 08 they were still selling tickets like right before, and i even heard that you could get em at the entrance to the festival (don't know if that parts true or not). my whole group already has our tix though, so we're cool for this year.
I'm starting to wonder about these tickets. I mean, Phish sold out Fenway park at $50/ticket in 5 minutes. How the hell has Roo NOT sold out? I mean they can't be selling twice as many tickets as there are at Fenway. Even if they are, they've been on same for 3 months now.
It just strikes me as really strange that they're still on sale.
Fenway had the Phish presale - up to 4 tickets. The presale to season ticket holders - up to 4 tickets. The presale to VIPnation members (thank god) - up to 2 tickets. Perhaps others I don't know about.
So when those tickets went on sale to the general public, the place was probably half sold out, if not more.
May 1st tomorrow and still no sell-out. I must admit I was wrong about how much people want to see Phish. Clearly scalpers have a lot to do with their sell-outs. I still think the Roo will sell out, but maybe not until a few days prior like we saw in 2007.

After the MusicToday lottery, the employee pre-sale, STH pre-sale, and VIPNation sales, there was not a single field ticket available for the public ticket on-sale for Phish at Fenway.
Luckily the employee (and their friends) pre-sale code was a generic one and many fans were able to use the code for themselves.
Haha this thread is so hilarious in retrospect. I cant believe there were people that thought it was going to sell out in less then a day.
Its pretty obvious that all those Phish shows sold out so quick because of crappy scalpers and now with shows quickly approaching and alot of tickets still available it looks like alot of them will be losing money which makes me happy.
yeah, i was definitely caught up in the Phish hysteria. i thought for sure it would sellout this years Bonnaroo fast. i still think that the max cap. is going to be extended this year. would be interesting to see how many tickets they've sold so far. i'd be willing to bet its over 50,000.
"Disobedience, in the eyes of anyone who has read history, is man's original virtue. It is through disobedience and rebellion that progress has been made." Oscar Wilde (1854 - 1900), The Soul of Man Under Socialism
"You're either on the bus or off the bus." Ken Kesey
"When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro." Hunter S. Thompson
It's well over 50,000. I believe the cap is at 80,000 which they haven't met in the last two years. Last year it wasn't even close. I thought this year would be a quick sell-out. Obviously I was wrong. I do expect they will call it a sellout shortly before 'Roo.
If the economy was in some kind of a normal state, I think Roo would have been a for sure sellout. Well, at least some of you are doing your part to stimulate the economy. Good work people! I must return to packing. Sasquatch starts tomorrow!!!!!!!!
Biglou: You're absolutely right. SO many low and middle wage jobs (the kind held by most of us concert goers) have been downsized or disappeared in the bust of the economy over the last 2 years! It will be no surprise if Bonnaroo cannot sell out.
Although not a surprise, usually the indicator when the fest is selling out is when VIP sells out first. This may not be the case this year since Phish is playing and the state of the economy.

I don't know if VIP will sell out first this year...in case you didn't see the VIP prices this year, they've gone up about $400 ($1100 to $1500 including all the hidden fees). They also did away with the free buffet. Crazy isn't it? But, you may say, for someone spending that much money on concert tickets, what's another $400 to them? Due to the economy, Bonnaroo made a decision to keep GA ticket prices the same as last year's price. IMO, I don't think they will sell out. ;-)

^^^^^^
I think you're probably right. There's only two weeks left, and I think if anybody is going to be buying last minute tickets, they'll be looking on ebay or craigslist, or possibly waiting til they get to the gates. I've been seeing tickets going for 200-225 for the last month, and those prices will drop down even farther as roo gets closer.
A buddy of mine refuses to buy his until a week beforehand, and two years ago he got a ticket for 100 flat....people have things come up, and they get desperate to recoup anything at all...you'd have to be a moron to go through the official purchase process at this point.
I think Superfly calls it a sell-out every year to discourage people from showing up and trying to buy tix at the gate. Of course, there may be tix available from people waiting in line, but I won't be surprised if it's called a sell-out again soon -- even though I don't think they'll hit capacity again this year. Personally, when I fund-raise and try to sell tickets to charity events, I hype up how fast my tickets are selling to get my friends to commit sooner than later (even if tix aren't selling quickly). So I don't put a lot of stock in the recent message that tickets are selling faster than ever. Roo's in 2 weeks; if tix had been selling faster than ever, they'd have been sold out months ago.
Whoo hoo, 2 weeks til musical bliss with other like-minded folk!!

Hi,
Thanks for getting in touch. Below are some basic ticket answers:
Tickets began mailing May 27 so yours will arrive in the next few days.
If you need to change your mailing address, please contact Music Today at 1-800-594-TIXX.
Tickets can still be purchased and shipped before the start of the festival at this time. However, there is a shipping deadline and we really do anticipate the festival will sell out before our shipping deadline. We advise that you purchase tickets immediately so that you don’t miss your opportunity.
See you soon! Bonnaroo

Hello,
I am wondering if tickets are actually selling out, or if it's a marketing plan to make people buy tickets.
How many tickets are left?
Thanks! Jennifer
-----so basically that says nothing about if it'll actually sell out...
One thing is for sure, it's going to be way more packed than last year, which definitely isn't good. But on the bright side of things, that means they'll have more money to spend on next year's lineup!

I seriously doubt they'd just come out and tell you that it is a marketing ploy! Crunchy for the effort though! lol
