So with Phish being the possible headliner this year and if anyone's been paying attention the tickets have been pretty hard to get for Phish Summer Tour 2009. Unless you really wanted tickets so bad that you spent all morning/day the moment they went on sale trying to get them your going to be shutout of the Summer Tour. Does this band alone have the potential of selling out this festival? If so then how fast. Phish has sold out festivals of their own before with 70,000 max cap.'s, whose to say that this won't affect Bonnaroo? And then add all the other artists and I believe that this years festival has a pretty good chance of selling out. So, if this is the case, then how long do you think it'll take for tickets to sellout? Or will they sellout at all? I'll let you be the judge...
"Disobedience, in the eyes of anyone who has read history, is man's original virtue. It is through disobedience and rebellion that progress has been made." Oscar Wilde (1854 - 1900), The Soul of Man Under Socialism
"You're either on the bus or off the bus." Ken Kesey
"When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro." Hunter S. Thompson
I think the only way that it sells out in a month or less is if you have alot of scalpers buying tickets which is certainly a possibility but I think tickets will last til late March early April and I do think that Roo will allow 90k this year, im sure AC/Superfly knows that they could sell more then 80k if Phish plays 2 sets so I dont see them sticking to the cap this year.

This scares the shit out of me every night before bed. Roo is expensive. Money is way tight. After having seen Coachella's weak line-up I have a feeling even more people might make it out to Manchester. Yes, the economy is in bad shape, but my roomate already purchased tickets and phish heads will definitely eat those up fast. Sucks.
well, 20K tickets for an average amphitheater sells out in about... 5 minutes.
roo has about 4 times that much. plus, they did a presale this year, with no lineup - i dont think they ever did that before. and i think its to reward the faithful because they know with phish on the lineup, the tickets will sell out immediately.
but i might be wrong, and hope i am - because i know a lot of you wait till the end / save up $$ over a few months to buy tickets.

That has been exactly my thinking about the pre-sale all along. I thing its a chance to let Roo diehards get in early (and cheaper) before Phisheads roll it up once the lineup comes out.

I think the first sell out will be in a week or under, then tickets will go on sale again with a higher cost and possible lottery... just guessing. ( I did buy presale)

I think it will sell out but i dont see it selling in the first couple weeks. I definitely think Phish will make it sell out faster but i think it will at least take a month or 2

I don't think it will sell out for atleast a month or two. Even though Phish is a big deal, the economy is in such bad shape with people losing their homes & jobs, I think many are going to try to buy Roo tickets with income tax money, which most people will be getting in a few months.
If it sells out before I'm able to get a ticket, that's fate telling me that I just wasn't meant to go.

Yeah thats my plan, to pay for my ticket with income tax money. If it sells out real quick im basically screwed but like you said if thats the way it goes thats the way it goes. There is always Rothbury or Lolla although i doubt they will have as killer of a line up as I feel Roo will have either one would be a good time non the less.
and I see alot of people bring up the economy as reasons it might take awhile including myself but this hasnt stopped every Phish show so far to sell out really quickly which worries me. (I think this can also be attributed to scalpers knowing there is alot of money to be made on Phish shows, hopefully that doesnt play a role in Roo ticket sales.)

I think you're right about the Coachella thing. Unless they're going to make a couple of huge adds, this will be their weakest lineup in a while. Bonnaroo, on the other hand, is going to have it's strongest if the rumors pan out.
I know people get excited about Roo, but I don't think there is any chance of a sellout. Last year the economy was starting to get bad and the biggest deal was gas prices. Now, conditions are 100 times worst. Millions of people are laid off and losing their homes. Music festivals are a luxury most put at the bottom of their lists. If I was not getting a big tax return this year, festivals would be out of the question. A sellout would be a sign that the economy may be starting to recover. I just wouldn't put money on it.

That's a concern for me as well. Scalpers/speculators will be trying to make a buck. I know many people who don't even give Roo tix a second thought until March or so. If it sells out quickly (and I suspect it will; faster than most think) then you will see asking prices well above $500.

I'm hoping they last until at least April. I can get mine at the end of this month, but a couple of my friends planning on going didn't file their taxes as soon as I did.
Bad economy + a Phish show in Knoxville a couple of days before = I think it will go until May.
This is the key. A bunch of Phish fans here in S. Knoxville (and I am loosely affiliated with the hippies down here b.w.o. Ganasita [of whose music I do not generally approve]) are going to the Thompson-Boling Arena show, and the general consensus, from what I gather, appears to be that not many people are going to Bonnaroo for Phish.
Then again, this might be still more scenester elitism talking, and then they'll pony up for the tickets. I think the general feeling among most, however, is that they can see Phish elsewhere.
Also, if you check this link: tickets.mycityrocks.com/ResultsTicket.aspx?evtid=1001729&event=Phish you will notice that there are still tickets available for said Thompson-Boling show, which has a capacity of around 25,000. Tickets to that show start around $65, while tickets to Bonnaroo start about 4 times more than that, and Bonnaroo requires a much greater financial and scheduling commitment. Furthermore, there was a "ticket request period" for a good amount of time before tickets to the Thompson-Boling show were put on sale to the public.
I would fully expect Bonnaroo to go well over 80,000 people, too, if they had the opportunity. They didn't scale it back last year for comfort, they did it because they knew not as many people were coming. I think, in a down year, they may even sell more tickets than normal, just to cover all the overhead they have.
And we really don't know if they've ever "sold out" in the first place. In the past, they've always announced a sellout right around the time when it would be hard to ensure that ticket-buyers would receive their tickets on time.

there have been a RIDICULOUS amont of scalpers on ebay and craigslist for ALL phish shows, which really makes me nervous that roo is going to sell out super fast. i had to sell my hampton 3 day passes because we couldnt get a hotel that wasnt 45 minutes away, and i definitely wasnt driving 45 minutes home in an area i wasnt familiar with under less than sober conditions. then i went to get tickets the minute they went on sale for phish in MA last weekend and got shut out. i really hope the same doesn't happen for roo, especially since its going to be my first year. i'm hoping that all the phish phans that got shut out of hampton wont want to drive a bit longer and go see them at roo instead.

Hard to say. I wouldn't be surprised if GA sold out in a day with Phish there. But it could go on and on with the economy the way it is. Then again, gas prices are much lower, and the bulk of GA attendees are college aged anyways and will spend their last dime on a Roo ticket so it'll actually be cheaper to go this year than last.
I went with a week.
Regardless, I will be at my PC at 11:30 logged in and ready to buy come Saturday.

Wow !! you sold your tics because you couldn't get a hotel close enough !!???? Strange don't think I've ever heard that one before. There are many other options I could think of doing before foregoing the show altogether.
I don't care what you say about me, just spell my name right---P.T. Barnum "As I was walking up the stairs I met a man who wasn't there He wasn't there again today I wish to God he'd go away."
I hope it goes till March because I won't have the money for a few months but I would not be shocked to see it sell out fast. The good thing is that tickets are being sold by AC/Superfly and not Ticket Master.
if there was a 1 day option in the poll i would have selected it...
im buying my ticket saturday just in case, but i highly doubt this happens. not everyone who plans on going will even realize they are on sale right away.
