Consequence of Sound has already updated their 'roo page with a few of the first names to show up on MySpace and, as they frequently do, they link this thread as their "source."
Neko Case, Animal Collective, Jenny Lewis. If all of these are true my head will explode.
I would LOVE to see Animal Collective, but I looked the other day, and I believe they'll be in New York (or somewhere..??) on June 11th, so I wrote them off, but maybe they'll be a Sunday show. SWEET JESUS! ;D
last i checked, their last date is for june 10th in florida. it's still very possible imo.
lol at all of this. oh bonnaroo. you really do know how to create a little hype. i hope NiN is there. i've been a fan of them for like 14 years but have never seen them. keep missing out on oppurtunities. would be nice to catch them especially at the roo!

"You're either on the bus or off the bus." Ken Kesey
"When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro." Hunter S. Thompson
This whole adding/subtracting thing lasted about 2 hours....just enought time to create the buzz. I'm sure they were watching this board as they were doing it

My bad! That New York date was for SEPT 11! Not June. I must be a little dyslexic (saw the 9 as a 6). Whoops.

i'm quite sure that neither okkervil river or the yeah yeah yeahs are jokes. i think it's just a little teaser to leave some doubt in our minds as to what all this means.
yeah, i mean it would seem a little weird to hype up all these bands and then the line-up be something completely different...but who knows.. i think they do genuinely enjoy fuckin with us.
i'd be ecstatic if we got a handful of the bands listed.
DOWN DOWN DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FUCKINNNG PHIL ON THE FARM!!!!!!!!!!!
I've always been a huge fan of everything Phil Anselmo has done, but come on man, lol. This isn't happening. Phil hates everything, is a well known white supremacist, and is so doped up on herion during shows he can barely speak half of the time. Then again, if you were to tell me ten years ago that Phil would open a show for Metallica (Pantera fans know what I'm talking about) I would have laughed you back to where you came from.
I'm really surprised by this. In 07 they messed up. Someone put something online that was NOT supposed to be there, and our very own Detective found it. They certainly seemed to learn their lesson from that. And they definitely keep an eye on us enough to know that this stuff would NOT escape our attention. I'm amazed they ever let anything slip. And I do think the earlier ones that seemed right, were already rumored, and are now deleted must be legit.
Actually he has his own source, the AC people were pretty steamed about it though if I remember correctly.
Well, not exactly . . . the people at AC were steamed about me leaking the line-up in '07. I talked directly with one of their staff members after the incident. However, I did not have a source for that leak. Pepper is correct. My Bonnaroo obsession lead to me finding a webpage that we were not yet meant to see.
Last year I did have my own source when I confirmed Metallica, Vampire Weekend, and WSP.

If it was as simple as stuff that got deleted was legit and stuff that didn't wasn't, then we'd know for sure. I'm thinking they may have done this on purpose, but even so they wouldn't want it that obvious. So my guess is that some of the stuff the got deleted was red herrings, some will actually play, some of the stuff that's still there is (obviously) jokes/red herrings, and some that's still there will play too.

I remain skeptical on this, despite my desire to believe it.
I do find it strange that they suddenly removed some of their recently added friends. And I really, really want Beasties and Byrne on the farm.
I guess my skepticism is in two part:
- It would not be unlike them to do something like this to mess with us. They would not suddenly add the entire line-up to their MySpace friends list without good reason.
- I don't see NIN playing 'roo this year. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think they have plans to tour, and Reznor said they are retiring that bad-ass light show they have been doing. As I understand it, they have no immediate plans (but I could be misinformed).
[edit: apparently I am wrong, someone in another thread said NIN will tour in a new format]

If its true about NIN , Beasties, I'm not too happy with the lineup because I have seen all of these acts multiple times, I personally want some new acts I haven't seen, but these myspace additions seem to fit every direction AC is going with the booking of there acts. These will all be great shows if they are on the lineup but I'm not too pumped because I will have seen everybody on this list already.
I think it's funny that people are putting so much stock in this. Every year, people look at Bonnaroo's myspace friends and are all "OMG! BONNAROO AND BECK ARE FRIENDZ!!! HE'S PLAYING BONNAROO LOLZ!!!!1"
It's entirely possible that some of the bands added end up at Bonnaroo. It certainly seems like a fairly encompassing and diverse list. But the obvious likelihood is that in no way is this deliberate, i.e. they aren't putting the lineup on myspace. Knowing the level to which they now watch this board, I'd say it's someone playing with us, ala DJJD and the clues.
i would agree with you 100% if they hadn't deleted them. Deleting them is an obvious sign that something is amiss.

While I too am skeptical . . . I really believe that Phish, Bruce, and Beasties are legit . . . they were the only 3 added wayyy earlier this morning before the waterfall of bands later on after they probably noticed that we saw those 3. And they do have reason to add them as friends to get ready for the lineup release, as they update their top friends list with the bands playing and would want it to jive with the main site.
I also believe David Byrne is legit due to the MySpace add and his actual Roo page being updated with 2008/09 information (and yes I know this hasnt always been accurate in the past, just a gut feeling).
To be honest... it would be pointless for them to pretend bands will be there when they won't actually be there. It's not like tickets are for sale right now and people are jumping on the rumors to buy tickets. At the most, you'll get people excited, and let them down. People who are let down create a negative buzz (with the lovely introduction of technology and blogs) and get people to travel elsewhere.
It's in no interest at all for Bonnaroo to tease us with bands that actually won't be there. That's why I think they made it clearly obvious which bands WON'T be there with the Lionel Ritchie, NKotB, Nickelback, etc.
With that being said... expect to see more bands pop up in the coming hours. They probably sent a whole lot of friend requests out before they realized we caught on. Some of those requests are probably automatically accepted, and some might take the band to log on and accept themselves. So as bands continue to log on and accept, a few more names might pop up.
Coheed and Cambria is a new addition to the friends... and I think they're entirely plausible. They are already on the lineup for that Woodstock festival that's featuring Allman Bros and Gov't Mule.
And to make things even more legit... every single band mentioned SHOULD be at Bonnaroo. Not one of the bands that popped up earlier today already have tour dates making it impossible for them to play Roo. They all have new albums, new tours, or new hype which would make them logical choices. And the tiers were pretty nicely balanced (ie. 10 different headliner caliber bands didn't get added at once).
