That Tong and Mac looks like it could just be right.. though I don't see any Mac relations to Funkytown. He lives/produces in England... probably the least funkiest place around. Haha. Also... for all of the work that was put into this clue... kind of a lackluster result... I think this is going to result in a good answer.

^^I agree. I think this is big time. And from the twitter and the other clues, I think we can be relatively sure this is a rock n roll band and probably one from Dallas/Ft. Worth. I know plenty of Austin bands (Black Angels would be awesome), but can't think of any from Dallas.
I agree...I think dudezer47 was right when he said it's either a FTW/Dallas connection or something related to GnR, both of which were discussed prior to djjd's last tweet, which said we were close.
STRONGBAD > TROGS BAND > The Troggs. 60's band famous for hit *Wild Thing". Collabs with R E M, in 90"s for album Akron/Athens. Micheal Stipe did not sing on it. Also could be the heavy metal band that did Trogsdor song about a dragon man character . Song makes reference to "cue twin guitar solos". Wiki has fuller answers.

sassbox i dont believe they have been counted out yet.
i mentioned them due to us being close on GnR and i brought them up to Velvet Revolver consisting of former GnR members Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum.

I'm starting to feel punch drunk...trying to tie together some of what djjd has said as of late...being close to rock n roll (subbing the R for Revolver for the G in Guns)...I like the MAC connection for McKagan, too. Hmmmm.

i think the rock and roll was just a joke. He said we were in the ballpark, actually better phrased close to rock and roll....i think he just meant we were going in the right direction getting the word from stongbd

Is anyone else feeling as frustrated/bamboozled by all of these "helpful hints" from the hound & mr. zimmy? I'm finding it very difficult to sort out which hints are real, which ones should be listened to and which ones are sending us on a wild goose chase....
Some mentioned Velvet Revolver earlier...have they been ruled out?
I'm pretty sure that Weiland is working on solo stuff and working with STP these days. Slash and the rest of Velvet Revolver are pretty down on him these days.
There has been a bit of a thaw with Axl in recent years. Not a thaw so much as a slight bit of condensation on the outside of the packaging.

I am certainly frustrated, but think the hints will look very helpful once we stumble on the right answer. I feel really stumped, and haven't even really looked at the other clues since we got this one. Maybe it's time for a break.
You will see soon if it's either of those or something else somebody guessed that's not those two.
to fact check your answer, you could figure out the funky town bit. That one has practically been handed on a platter. (Though there are so many tweets, maybe made it harder in the long run.)
And to be sure- it's really hard to solve because of the way this particular group is tweaked right now.

If it's KISS i will be insanely disappointed. If it's it's GNR i will only be happy if it's the original line up, which I'm relatively certain is less likely to ever happen than Led Zeppelin. I'm hoping the guess that was correct was Paul McCartney. I can see him being perfect as a headliner.
I see a bigger connection to KISS here. Motown was developed mostly by the Funk brothers. Motown's home is Detroit. So a funky town would be Detroit. There is a lot of connection between detroit and kiss. or maybe another Detroit band.
