Seems like David Byrne will fill the kind of slot that Willie Nelson filled last year. Older musician with a lot of respect. I gotta get into his tunes now (assuming he's going)
honestly this is a bad comparison
i like Willie but you really cant compare him to David Byrne or Talking Heads, and im not just talking about in terms of difference in musical style
To be blunt, Willie is a country bumpkin stoner strumming a guitar compared to the musical genius that is David Byrne.
LOL. This might be the dumbest thing I've ever read on this board, and that says a lot.
Go and pick his his album with Wynton Marsalis Two Men With the Blues and tell me he's a country bumpkin stoner.
I saw him perform a full show in a place that only held about 150 people here in Tulsa several years back. Right after he released Rei Momo. Dirty old town is all I have to say. It was the most amazing show I have ever seen.

if this bonnaroo myspace thing pans out, and i believe most of the plausible acts will, what slot do you see byrne playing in? do you think he'd do a set with eno? i'd just hate for him to play at the same time as anyone else.
I just hope they dont put Byrne up against somebody like the Raconteurs like they did with Willie
When was this? I saw both sets last year. Now I can't remember if I saw Willie's full set, though. And I agree on the previous comment about Willie being a country bumpkin. So disrespectful.
I was sad to miss his set at ACL this past fall. One of the very few things I regret about that weekend. What was his set like, for any of those that saw it? Mostly newer stuff, or did he kick it back to the Heads days?
That was such a great set, too...sorry you missed it:
Strange Overtones I Zimbra One Fine Day Help Me Somebody Houses In Motion Cross-eyed & Painless Life Is Long Once In A Lifetime Life During Wartime I Feel My Stuff The Great Curve
I'm trying to dig up the setlist from his Washington DC show in November...he did a decent number of TH songs.
1. "Strange Overtones" 2. "I Zimbra" 3. "One Fine Day" 4. "Help Me Somebody" 5. "Houses in Motion" 6. "My Big Nurse" 7. "My Big Hands (Fall Through the Cracks)" 8. "Heaven" 9. "Never Thought" (originally from the deluxe edition of Everything That Happens Will Happen Today) 10. "The River" 11. "Crosseyed and Painless" 12. "Life Is Long" 13. "Once In a Lifetime" 14. "Life During Wartime" 15. "I Feel My Stuff"
Encore
16. "Take Me to the River" 17. "The Great Curve"
Second encore
18. "Air" (originally from Fear of Music) 19. "Burning Down the House" 20. "Everything That Happens"
I just hope they dont put Byrne up against somebody like the Raconteurs like they did with Willie

You didn't see all of Willie's show if you saw all of the Raconteurs. That was the roughest conflict for me last year by a long shot. I think I'd have to choose Byrne over just about everybody else. I saw him in Portland a few years ago and it knocked my socks off.

holy crap! that's an awesome set. why haven't i been following byrne's latest tour? if byrne came to roo and played half of 'remain in light' i'd crap myself. i'm officially way fuckin excited about the possibility of byrne at roo.
If david plays roo and does not play psycho killer i will be crushed!
Prepare to be crushed. He's only playing Talking Heads songs from the three albums that Brian Eno produced.
edit: with the exception of "Burning Down the House", his perennial closer.
This is sort of the quandary I faced in buying a ticket to his aftershow at ACL. All my favorite Talking Heads albums are pre-Eno. On top of that, I'm honestly kind of underwhelmed by both of their collaborative albums. So if I end up at Roo, he might not be must see for me even if I'm a big fan.

I can assure you that skipping his show would be a huge mistake. I saw him in Raleigh and was absolutely blown away. His show is just so good, it's nearly indescribable. Even the material that I wasn't familiar with floored me.

It would definitely take quite a conflict to pass up. I've heard nothing but great things about the Byrne/Eno tour.

LOL i pushed a button with Willie
i probably went too far calling him a country bumpkin stoner strumming a guitar but, next to Talking Heads, Willie Nelson is so fucking boring. Like i said, i like Willie but its not the genius of David Byrne.

Like a dog to his vomit, so you return to stupid statements. Like I said before, David Byrne is a creative guy whose work I dig.
But Willie Nelson is probably one of the five most influential pop musicians of the past 50 years. This isn't hyperbole. The dude broke major barriers in music that we pretty much take for granted these days. And as a musician, there really is no comparison between him and Byrne. Willie on guitar is about as flawless as it gets.

What is the ratio of bios being updated to actually being on the lineup. Seems like it's more than 75% I don't think my guess was really a ratio, though.

He is the only one I can find, the only thing is though, ALO was updated for last year, and they didn't pan out. So the ratio is skewed I'm assuming. Although, ALO wasn't rumored last year, and Byrne is this year. So who knows....
