It's amazing. Best movie of the year so far. Won't spoil anything. There is a twist/surprise, but if you are very familiar with the graphic novels, you should be able to see it coming. The ending is fantastic. Some may have problems with it or be disappointed, but I thought it was perfect.
People of course are going to immediately try and compare it to The Dark Knight. VERY different films. The Dark Knight is more of a crime saga, while The Dark Knight Rises is much more comic bookie. Its the most comic-ey of the trilogy really. IMO it is much darker and more disturbing than The Dark Knight. Many will say that Bane doesn't hold a candle to The Joker, but I don't think so. They are obviously very different villains, different kinds of evil. Bane is pure evil, hellbent on punishing Gotham and its people, while The Joker is an agent of chaos and anarchy.
One thing I must say though is that this has a lot of big tie-ins to Batman Begins. I would definitely recommend watching Batman Begins before seeing this. Not so much with The Dark Knight. In fact the only thing from The Dark Knight that you need to know is the Harvey Dent cover-up.
So yeah of course you should see it. Because it's Nolan and its Batman and you were going to see it anyway. AMAZEBALLS!!

I forgot all about your promise of a review, Stamos, so it was a pleasant surprise when I opened this thread. I'm not sure when, but I will definitely be seeing it.

Anyone posting Dark Knight Rises reviews PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE use spoiler tags if you are going to talk about the plot or any surprises or anything. I say this as a general warning and not because of jpbrez's review (I scrolled right past it because I didn't want to accidentally be spoiled if it had anything).

Saw Shut Up and Play the Hits last night and it was everything I had hoped it would be. Great even mix of extremely well shot concert footage, interview footage as well as a James Murphy portrait piece work. The editing and cinematographic choices are also just brilliant.

One of my favorite NYC Venues is playing the movie soon with a DJ set to follow.
This is happening.
On Friday, July 27, we will be hosting a very special screening of SHUT UP AND PLAY THE HITS!, with a DJ set by LCD’s own Pat Mahoney. We’re going to be playing the film on our huge HD screens, with FULL CONCERT SOUND. It’s going to get loud.
Want to come soak up all the magic with us? We're giving away 2 free tickets, and all you have to do to enter is take an Instagram of you... dancing yrself clean. Find out more here, and good luck!
About to watch The Dark Rises. The theatre I am at sold out all 22 screens for midnight showing. Wow, I can't remember that ever happening. Wow. And that is just one theatre in Charlotte
just got back from seeing all 3 Batman movies back to back to back in theaters, so I sat in a theater from 6 PM- 3AM but new movie was awesome, now time for some amazing rest
All major national news outlets are now reporting on a mass shooting which took place inside a multiplex theatre in Aurora (CO) tonight, during a midnight premiere of the new Batman film. 14 people reported dead on the scene. Another 12 to 15 transported to local hospitals.
Fox News first reported that two shooters in gas masks and body armor stood up and began shooting randomly less than ten minutes into the start of the film. At least three small children are among the reported dead. One shooter is currently in custody; the second is still at large.
This is not a sick joke on my part. Tragically, it is truth.
UPDATED - Number of people transported to hospitals is now reported as 35 to 40. The "majority" are teenagers, according to trauma personnel. Details still breaking on news channels.
SECOND UPDATE - Fox now reports only one gunman involved; already in custody. Gunman threw tear-gas cannisters before shooting, and is telling police that his vehicle and apartment both contain pre-wired explosives.
I'm not qualified to psychoanalyze anyone. But the shooter is approximately 20 years old, and all of the shooting/tear gas took place from the very front of the theatre, directly beneath the screen. Reportedly, an infant was shot there at "very close" range.
Could be a hopelessly sick Kliebold/Harris type, vicariously imposing himself into the plot of the movie. Then again, maybe not. Whatever. It's just chilling, and hard to imagine.
God help us all. Foremost, the victims and their families.
This dirtbag had a long rifle and two handguns, in addition to the tear-gas cans he set off. By all witness reports, he got off "no more than 20 shots total" before he was flushed out of the theater by cops who were already on regular patrol outside. Just because it was a sold-out premier of a very popular movie, in a large suburban multiplex.
At least 12 of the 20 shots killed someone almost instantly. It's difficult to factor how bad the carnage could've been if police hadn't gotten in there so quickly.
The next time I'm cranky at cops in general, I'm gonna be sure to box my own ears. And then, thank one of 'em for being brave enough to risk his own life for a stranger's. Swear to goodness.
THIRD UPDATE - Local authorities now revise confirmed casualty count downwards to 12, although "several remain in serious condition".
Back to the actual movie, I was a little let down by it just because my expectations were so high after the last one. This was a very good film though, lots of cool action scenes and some of the new characters were great. When you go into this movie, see it as a sequel to Batman Begins, not so much a sequel to The Dark Knight. I do think they could of cut 45 minutes from the movie and it would have been just as good though. Overall, good movie, good story, I will for sure be buying it on dvd.

Too many cringe-worthy one liners for my liking though.

This was definitely the most comic book-y of any of the three iterations, but to be honest I can’t say I noticed that many more cringe-worthy lines compared to the first two. I re-watched Batman Begins and The Dark Knight last week and I forgot about some gems from those two.
Anyway, like jp, I loved the ending so hard. Sure the whole John Blake’s real name is Robin was kind of cheesy and maybe unnecessary (esp. since Robin’s name isn’t actually Robin, and to be honest I’d rather leave out that part and end his part with him finding the Bat Cave), but I still thought the last 30-45 minutes were excellent. Also, Alfred had me on the verge of tears twice in the movie, so I was giddy when he got to see Bruce/Selina in Florence.
Right now at best it’s on the same level as Begins, but I’ll need to see it a couple more times before I really decide. Considering it is part three of a trilogy and the ridiculous expectations put into it, I loved it.
I'm going to see Shut up and Play the Hits tonight! I can not wait! I'm glad to hear that it's getting such good reviews from those on here. Chicago is screening it the Thursday before Lolla, so I'll probably see it again that night. A perfect start to the weekend.
oh also i've seen a few other movies over the summer. i guess if i had to grade them:
---snow white and the huntsman: B (charlize theron=amazing, kristen stewart, you suck.) ---friend for the end of the world: B+ (quirky and funny.) ---hysteria: B- (def a girly movie.) ---moonrise kingdom: A (loved it, bill murray/bruce willis/frances mcdormand/ed norton = geniuses, the kids in it are awesome as well.) ---lcd soundsystem-shut up and play the hits: A (i love documentaries and how could you not love one about a band we all dig.) ---dark knight: A (see above.)
