Plus i really dont get the whole thought process of "if i know the music already i wont like the show as much"...
It's not that I won't like the show as much- just that there is something very special and magical about hearing a band live with no expectations or idea of what could happen next- where every rift is a gift and every bridge is unexpected.
well, that's kind of the beauty of phish shows.. you never know what to expect, even if you've seen them 100 times.

Personally I enjoy albums. I love live shows more, but I like hearing the original tunes on album because then when you hear it live it's great seeing what they can make out of the original. Being able to see a new version of a song you know and love rocks.
I agree not knowing what will come next is very fun and rewarding as well. But for me I like to know most of the tunes ahead of time so I can see what they create from the original mold. Watching a 3 minute studio song become a sprawling 15 minute jam can be just magic

I think people try too hard to get it. Phish is a band you have to lend your ear to. Give it time, tune in, let it be an experience... If its for you, you'll come back time and time again. If not, you'll move on...
i said it before in this thread, but once again- i didn't like/couldn't understand phish at all. there were a few songs i enjoyed (rift, bouncing around the room) but i didn't think it was anything amazing. until my friend brougth me to one of the first shows after the hiatus (2/24/03) and we had great seats, about second row on page's side and within the first minute or two taht was it. i was hooked for life. and it was only until after i saw them live that the live albums made sense to me. it's not just the jams, but you remember the way that the music made you feel and when you hear the live shows you can somehwat put yourself there and imagine what it would have been like to be there. but again - i didn't like phish at all until after witnessing what they do and it was only then that i was able to appreciate the live albums. so i say to ANYONE who thinks that they dont' really like phish to just go to the bonnaroo shows.

i just really think that some of the songs on Lawn Boy are the easiest for non-phish/ non-jamband people to sink there teeth into. i mean Reba is one of there more catchier tunes, my girlfriend actually fins herself getting it stuck in her head. and she's never even really been into Phish until i started pouring it into her soul on a daily basis. lol. plus you've got Bathtub Gin which is another good one. then there's Run Like An Antelope and Bouncing Around The Room. all fairly easy songs to get into especially with a studio recording. and nobody can hate on Lawn Boy. that song is the bees knees! i do think that letting some of these studio cuts sink in is a good way to get started. especially considering, as stated earlier, there's nothing like listening to that 4 minute long Gin studio cut turn into a 10 or 15 minute long amazing live version. that's when you'll start to really understand the band. when you witness this exploration unfold in front of you

How many Siket Disc fans do we have in here? My second favorite studio offering, after A Picture of Nectar (Gueluah Papyrus!!!). Unfortunately I've never seen any of the Siket songs performed live, and I feel like I might never. Fingers crossed for What's The Use late night Friday...

If we get a dead-themed superjam I would want it to be a rotating cast of performers throughout the show. I mean, just a dead-themed jam with one member of the dead and then others sounds kinda like Phil & Friends to me... which would be cool and all, but not really a superjam
Now, if there were like 10 or 15 musicians that were all listed for it and they just rotated in and out for a 3 or 4 hour show playing Dead tunes, now that would be somethin I'd like to see!

a dead superjam never even crossed my mind till now. imagine Phil, Bobby, Mickey, Kreutzman all showing up 100% unannounced and all the guests they could bring on stage. FUCK! i just ruined the superjam for myself haha. if its not this, FAIL!
