Robert Earl Keen is about to tour with Dave Mathews Band and they have admitted to signing a spot at Bonnaroo 09!
Hold on a sec, I checked that link you have. Look at the words carefully.
"We have some big shows coming up," he said, referring to dates with the Dave Matthews Band and a slot on the Bonnaroo Festival in Tennessee. "But other than that, we're just going to keep plugging along and keep playing music.
That says to me those are two separate qualities: REK is going to play dates with DMB and he himself also has a slot at 'roo.
that is what it says. but i think what the poster here was trying to say is that this does increase the likelihood of dmb being there. if rek is opening for dmb and the tour is during the time of roo and rek is going to be at roo, makes sense that dmb will also be there.
Whoa, never heard of Portugal. The Man - they are good! I'll be honest, though, DMB doesn't excite me too much but Robert Earl Keen makes me incredibly happy. He's one artist I haven't seen and I really feel compelled to.
What, in particular, makes you think that? There is heavy, heavy evidence that they will indeed. In fact, it would probably be safer to say they will play Bonnaroo than not at this point.
Ummmm.... exactly what kind of HEAVY evidence has been presented?
Fine, COMPELLING evidence may be the word. It's already been discussed that this isn't following last year's Zep rumor trend. Superfly quelled that one on the spot, whereas this year not a word's been said. It's just...interesting.
Regardless, it won't ruin me if Phish doesn't go. I'll still enjoy myself at 'roo!
I saw REK at ACL, he was a MUST see for my friend who grew up in TX... he was fun, though maybe once was enough... definitely the most family type show I've ever been to at a Fest before
i would be curious to know what other bands your friend likes. REK is texas country. maybe i'm just jaded from being so over-exposed to it all, but the guy's voice is horrible. i'll give him SOME credit on songwriting, but it's country songwriting...there's nothing really new or creative about it to me.
i dunno...to each their own. festivals are awesome because i'm not forced to see him, and i hope those that do have a blast
Notice the conflicting dates with the CMA festival. In defense, you also notice artists playing at 'Roo often list all the days, so it is possible that this guy is playing at both, and both require to show all dates
That being said, I've found another one, but I'm not 100% on either this one or the one before. Could be a marketing technique for up and coming bands or could be the real deal.
Yeah, I'm starting to sense that a lot of minor acts are trying to add a little bit of buzz by listing Roo on their itinerary. Let's see if they end up on the list. (E.g., the first "confirmed" act we had was Zac Brown Band however now they are in Jersey Roo weekend and have pulled any mention of the festival. Coincidentally, they listed the dates at the same time their new cd went on sale.)
I don't quite remember it happening beforehand, just an observation. It's just odd seeing these smaller acts popping up, but I can definitely see them putting the date on there to create buzz for themselves.
