Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Ok I'm willing to admit I might have exagerated their agenda. But it is a weak attempt at promoting carpooling. Atleast they are promoting it though so kudos to them for that.
I could see how you could remedy lack of camp space (because you carpooled) by moving to tent only. But it seems like such a pain in the arse to haul all your shite to tent only.
I just used gasbuddy, and if gas prices stayed at 3.72 where I am, we will spend $58.17 round trip. Usually I'm against the purchase of foreign cars, but buying a Honda just may be worth it.
I can see the point in needin' more space if you're packed 4-5 in a single vehicle. Totally get that. But I don't think Bonnaroo has a sinister plan behind it. In my experience it's just smart to take two cars if your group is 4 or over (unless you have a bigger vehicle). In 2008 my group was 4 and we drove in my buddy's Ford Expedition. Had plenty of space to set up our camp, but we were sharin' tents.
We have a huge full-size 4 door F150 we'll be taking and it's a 10 hour drive so gas is going to cost us a fortune. We also have a car but it's a newer 2010 Dodge Charger and I don't want to take any chances messing it up plus we'll have so much more room in the truck for supplies and can even sleep in there if needed since it has the full size back seat and the seats all fold down.
I've been selling stuff like crazy on Ebay and have about $350 so far and am going to try to get another $300 by the time we leave. I have a Paypal debit card so I hope to just fun our gas $$ for the trip from my Ebay sales.

I just came in to post that gasbuddy trip calculator too, but I see I got beat to the punch. It's a pretty handy tool though, I'd recommend it for anybody driving a significant distance. Not only will it calculate the cost of gas, it'll tell you exactly where to fill up to do it as cheaply as possible. It might be too much hassle to try to follow it exactly, but especially for those with long trips it might be handy to at least get an idea of which states to try to fill up in.
It's calculating my trip at around $300 - eek! And I'm assuming gas prices will probably still rise a bit before Roo. Ouch.

I also have a Ford F150 SuperCrew. I used the GasBuddy site and I come up with $110 in gas at current prices for a 440 mile round trip. I only expect that price to go up between now and June.

I'm getting a total of $301 based on that calculator. I'm sure it will be more though with prices probably going up. The only positive is based on the gas price map on that gas buddy site is that it looks like the price of gas will go down once we get out of Ohio. It's cheaper in KY and TN right now.
It is always cheaper in KY and TN. I live right on the Ohio River in Indiana and gas is about 15-20 cents cheaper per gallon across the bridge. Needless to say I fill up anytime I'm in Kentucky. If you can wait until you get to either state to get gas it's worth it.
Posted on Thursday May 5, 2011 at 02:01 PM Add | .For concertgoers looking for a way to avoid traffic snarls and long lines for this year’s Bonnaroo Music Festival June 9-12 in Manchester, Tenn., festival organizers have just the thing – a 60-mile, overnight bike ride to the event.
The inaugural Roo Ride literally takes the scenic route and cuts down one’s carbon footprint. The ride departs June 11 from the city of Smyrna to Manchester, taking in points of interest along the route such as Civil War battlegrounds. The route ends a short distance from festival grounds where riders can camp and enjoy the event, bike back or hitch a ride back with Roo Ride organizers.
Concertgoers and general bike-riding enthusiasts are encouraged to take part in the “green” ride. Those participating pay a $125 fee, of which 20 percent will be donated to local charities. That fee doesn’t include festival entry.
“Who wouldn’t want to do that?” area resident Melissa Hudson-Gant told the Tennessean. “You could sit in traffic for an indefinite amount of time and arrive with an empty gas tank and be frustrated, or you could ride your bike places you might not otherwise ride, have someone carry your stuff for you without any frustrations, and it’s all for a good cause.
Edit: sorry, just realized the below was redundant to earlier posts. Feel free to skip.
You guys check out GasBuddy.com -- it's a real-time reporting system for gas prices hooked to a driving directions server. It optimizes your fuel cost by finding the cheapest gas stations along your route. I just used it to calculate gas from Boston to Manchester assuming a 2002 Volkswagen Passat burning regular unleaded, and here's what it came up with:
Boston, MA to Manchester, TN to Boston, MA (round trip) Total Trip Cost $283.64 My Savings $26.19 Distance 2176.6 mi Fuel Used 76.02 gal Carbon Footprint 1871.74 lbs
Boston, MA to Manchester, TN (about 18 hours 14 mins) 1078.8 mi Fill #1 Gulf 1399 Chestnut Ave Hillside, NJ $3.77 8.26 gal $31.21 Fill #2 Wal-Mart 171 Burgess Rd Harrisonburg, VA $3.65 11.79 gal $43.14 Fill #3 Kroger 265 Highland Square Crossville, TN $3.68 14.95 gal $55.15
Manchester, TN
That's just one leg of the trip, but you get the idea. I'm using this system for a trip to Chicago next week and I'll report back.
Incidentally, I checked the map to make sure the stations aren't miles out of the way. They're not.

Gasbuddy calculated my 1335 mile roundtrip journey as costing us just under $200. Kind of rough, but thank god for my little Audi or it would have been a lot worse.

guys when factoring gas prices remember how packed the cars are - the more weight the less mpg you get. It calculates my cost at $227 - last year I spend about $100 more on gas.
