I couldn't imagine driving as far as some people are for Roo. Some true music lovers I guess. I only live little over 500 miles away and already dont want to pay for gas so all of you making the trip that live further away thanks because it is making me feel a bit better about making the trip. This is a fest I have wanted to go to for years and decide this year one way or another I am going to go.
We're taking the honda as well, wanted to bring our Ram but its just not do-able right now Hoping we won't even have to stop for gas once (except maybe before we get into Manchester for the traffic line) as we are coming from the south side of Atlanta. Since we live about 20 miles out of the city, gas prices usually go up around the summer to reduce smog and go green and blah blah blah...hopefully it stays under 4, but I think thats wishful thinking at this point... thanks, Obama...

so according to AAA ( fuelcostcalculator.aaa.com/ ), it is going to cost me over $200 to get from upstate ny to the farm.
when i bought my tickets the day they went on sale it said it would cost around $150. i don't even want to know how much it's going to be once we're actually making the trip. nothing under $3.95/gallon here now...

Heres an idea.. Just put enough gas in your cars to get to roo, then after were all out, BOYCOTT it. We'll have our tents so no hurries to leave right?

Sounds perfect. We're coming from ohio and we're not sure which car we're taking yet but currently in Athens gas is 3.99. It cost me $40 to go to Columbus and back in my Saturn. That's no good. :-(
We are going to have to upgrade though because we are adding another person to our family. But that's ok because A) babies are great and B) I love the Odyssey.
This thread is wild! Gas was .98 a gallon when I got my license. I'll spend $275 round trip to roo according to the link that day tripper posted. That's just gross. It's $3.83 at Costco right now, 3.89 everywhere else.

I got my Odyssey in August and it RULES!! We don't have kids but my bf is in the antiques and used records biz and we're both musicians (he's a drummer, I'm the bandleader) so we're ALWAYS hauling tons of people and crap around. Seriously the best car I ever owned. Congrats on your new addition!!

Gas was about $0.50 a gallon when I got my license (1977) and people were complaining about the high cost. I barely remember gas wars (back before the gov't stopped enforcing anti-trust laws) when gas would get down to $0.20/gal or less.
Studies show people start curbing their use at about $4/gal so that's why it never gets much over that for long. Gas companies don't want us learning to do without. So hopefully the $6 predictions are false (as they usually are.) At least until we get used to higher prices so Big Oil can jack up the prices some more. kind of like the frog in the boiling pot thing.

Carpooling is the way to go this year. And it doesn't hurt to have that chance of a VIP upgrade if you have 4 or more in your vehicle. My bro and I are taking his wife's Honda to save a few bucks. We were considering picking up 2 people people from Inforoo, but it'll probably be too crammed.

The problem with carpooling is that the camping system Bonnaroo currently uses actively discourages people from doing it. We (my camp) intentionally takes more cars then we need because its damned impossible to get enough camping space for 4 people in the space given just behind or in front of only one vehicle. Not to mention if you’re going to be stuck in line waiting to get through the gates for anywhere from 2-8 hours (after a long drive already) nobodies going to want to be stuffed into a car, they’re going to want room to spread out or lean their seat back and be comfortable.
What they're doing in my opinion is trying to increase campground density (more people per acre) so they fit more people into the campground (aka sell more tickets) with a joke of a contest. They're playing on peoples "environmental consciousness" with a lame contest where a few people (9 cars in total out of 10’s of thousands) will get upgraded to VIP or 12 cars will just get some cheap merchandise.
Here’s an idea me and my buddies came up with: If they really wanted to promote car pooling because they are environmentally conscious they would have a “carpoolers only camp grounds” (kind of like family only camping). Cars in this campground would be given more room than those in the normal campgrounds so that cars having 4-5 people would actually get a realistic amount of space to set up camp. If they REALLY wanted to promote carpooling then the “carpoolers only campgrounds” would be placed close to one of the two entrances to centered so that carpoolers are guaranteed to get rewarded with a decent camp spot. If I could save gas money by carpooling, and get a guaranteed sweet camp spot then of course I would take advantage of it.

I disagree. The acreage isn't going to be a problem. If there were a hidden agenda it'd for be the greening publicity. And I'm not claiming they don't care, just saying IF.
If we did carpool we'd go to tent only, which we may do anyway, depending how far into BFE we end up.
