How about Mercury Rev in lieu of FLips? Dave Fridmann was largely responsible for the transformation of the FLips sound, and his band is just as good (if not as entertaining live).

^^^ Doubt that will ever happen again...
From a pretty interesting Rolling Stone article...
In 2004, during an interview with Esquire, he expressed his disappointment in touring with Beck, describing the singer as an image-obsessed diva. (Asked if the song "Free Radicals," on Mystics, is about Beck, who is a Scientologist -- the chorus goes, "You think you're radical . . . in fact, you're fanatical" -- Coyne snorts and says, "No! I'd tell you if it was. But he's not fanatical in any way. He's not awake enough. I would love it if he was a freak.")
What I would like from the Lips, to change it up a bit... sure, 1st set do your "new" stuff with all the trippy theatrics or whatever... but THEN, 2ND SET, strip it down and do the stuff that TRULY ROCKS... ONLY material from before the Soft Bulletin
Frogs, Halloween on the Barbary Coast, God Walks Among Us, Talkin' 'Bout the Smiling Deathporn Immortality Blues, Kim's Watermellon Gun, Mountain Side, Charlie Manson Blues, Everything's Explodin', Can't Stop the Spring, Chrome Plated Suicide, Unconsciously Screamin', Shine On Sweet Jesus, Pilot Can at the Queer of God, Moth in the Incubator, Slow Nerve Action, Psychiatric Explorations of the Fetus with Needles...
I can keep going on and on... SO MANY oft ignored rockin' AWESOME classics by THIS band...
Wayne, if you were to do this for me??? ... I mean, when we requested FROGS at Maxwells back in '92 '94??? You DID say, "Maybe on the next tour," ... time to make good
OH... MY... GAWD... if I suddenly heard FROGS on the FARM??? ... I'd be the happiest boy alive!!! ;D ;D ;D

major effin karma for u. if those songs were an actual set the flips played./... i cant even come up with words right now sorry.
LRH.... you definitely know what's up when it comes to the FLips.
Well... not for nothing, but I DID officially coin the term "Liphead" like 18 years ago... and personally, I prefer Lips to FLips
^^^ And that nasty "beer" stained homemade banner used to come with me to EVERY show in the 90's... Wayne, Michael, Ronald, and Steven ALL know it WELL, and have ALL autographed it ;D
Me and my girlfriend in college even got to jump up on stage once during an encore to hold it up triumphantly for the entire oversold WILD crowd to see!
And once, Wayne drank beers at the same table as me... with me rudely interupting the story he was telling his friends with an ill-placed, "Yo man, can you pass that ashtray..." (with me not realizing it was HIM at the time, of course ) ...AND Wayne even grubbed a cigarrette from me once, making small talk with me and my friends as he leaned against a pole smoking while waiting to go on
I also think that a picture I took in NOLA of this "Lipmobile" I found on the street? It might actually still be up on his and Michelle's refrigerator to this day!
And the OTHER time I was up on stage with them??? I was IN the band THAT time!!! That was the "Boombox Experiment" tour... I was station #23 ;D
So yeah... it would be kind'a sad if I didn't know my poop
If all the Lipheads I've created over the years went out and created at least one more? That number is easily in the hundreds, if not THOUSANDS...
My rock and roll TRINITY... #1 Pink Floyd #2 Black Sabbath #3 The Flaming Lips
... though in recent years, Jim james and MMJ has been putting up a REALLY good campaign to overtake that #3 slot... right now they are almost TIED
I never get tired of seeing the Lips. They were unbelievable at 10KLF this year. I think the crowd was caught a little off guard when the 6 naked chicks came out and danced. Wayne looked a bit stunned too. The little kid standing next to me got some early education in female anatomy.
Found that video of the naked chicks dancing with Wayne.
WARNING! This is not work place appropriate.

I think that there is a good chance for their return this year. Especially since their new album should be out in time for Roo. I'd assume once thats released they will be all over the place again. But with the Lips, you never know...wouldnt mind seeing them at Rothbury too!

MERCURY REV! yes, I am down with that. Good call on that one, seriously.

Well, since they will be playing from 12AM-Sunrise... yeah, that's doable
Dear sir- OH MY GOD. I cannot imagine an old-Lips show from midnight 'till sunrise. I would die. When they played Mountainside at '07, I almost cried. Gahhhhhh I need them in my life.
