yes you are right on the STS9 member getting hit by a glowstick so that was what brought on that stance ... that may sound petty, but would you think the same thing if a band said, no throwing bottles at us while we were playing ... sort of the same really .. lets just all go with the rings and that might solve that problem ... i posted one time i never understood the early punk movement thing with bands that spit on the audience and vice versa .. now you cant get hurt by a lugie sp lol but i think i would rather get hit in the head by a glowstick then Iggy spitting all over me ... gross cr**** tnx ccrgmac, its just a dumb habit of mine ... way before the roo, lets figure out how we can hook up at the roo .... ps .. did you guys see Colombine has been evacuated because of a bomb threat .... those poor kids .....colorado ron *****
It's "Colorado Ron", he's been signing off that way for at least two years, but I've never found out what the asterisks are for. Kids on the Coachella board were convinced he was cursing at them for a while.
Hi Ron, Hi Deb.
Ohhh... I though it was Christ, misspelled... haha. Sorry man! ;D ;D ;D
oh boooo hooo, i got hit with a stick. I GOT HIT WITH A FRIGGING FOOT AT A THURSDAY CONCERT AND IT BROKE MY GLASSES!
Sorry, that was very VERY uncool, it's just, GAH! And yes, i do have the right to tell the band what i want to do because i paid them to play.
If that were true, the last time I saw Sarah Mclachlan she would have been naked on stage ƒº and the difference I think is: to be bit by an ant is no big deal, but to be overrun by a million fire ants is much different ¡K one glow stick in a crowd of 50k is ok, 50k glow sticks thrown at you, well you get the point .cr*****
What goes on onstage..the bands decision What goes on in the crowd that I pay an exuberate amount of money to be a part of..........not the band's decision I understand that getting hit with a glowstick isnt ideal, but aren't there other things that can be thrown on stage or are glowsticks the only projectile that has the capability to make it on stage. And your right they arent in my living room I wouldnt be able to hold that capacity of people and I did go to their show that I paid for and without ticket buyers paying to see them they wouldnt have a show to put on. So instead of trying to tell the crowd HOW they should enjoy their show they should just be glad they have a crowd to have a show.
I hate the elitist "I pay your salary" line that people bust out. Just because you buy the album or pay to see them does not put them at your mercy. They provide you a service and you pay for it, its that simple. If nobody went to their shows, or bought their albums, they would still create music, they just wouldnt make money doing it and would get day jobs like the vast majority of musicians in the world. Doing something that the band doesnt like for whatever reason is very selfish and does not promote the enlightening experience that everybody is supposed to benefit from. When crowd and band are on the same page and moving as one, the show can be electric, but when one of them takes a holier then thou attitude, it ruins it for everybody involved. If you know a band doesnt appreciate moshing or throwing glowsticks or whatever, just dont do it for that band. Respect the artist, you dont own them, just their material...
"They won't break me because the desire for freedom, and the freedom of the Irish people, is in my heart. The day will dawn when all the people of Ireland will have the desire for freedom to show. It is then that we will see the rising of the moon."

They are not GODS whatever benefit they provide to me I feel the benefit is equally returned by me being there. We play off each other's energy. So if they say dont wear red shirts because they dont like red then I should rework my wardrobe to fit what they like......I would never do something a band didnt like out of spite but come on I pay for a show if this experience is enlighted by me throwing a glowstick in the air (which I have never and will probably never do but must admit look hella cool) whose values are more important here? Its not about me "Owning" them. I dont own subway when I buy a sandwich but I have the option to enjoy it as I please. And your right they arent at my mercy or Id be making their setlists and picking what times they played to suit my likes and dislikes.
Well I didnt mean it as an absolute truth. If the band says they dont like red shirts, and you feel like wearing a red shirt, go ahead. What I meant was, when a band doesnt want certain things going on in the crowd that can and often do take away from the experience (moshing, chucking things around which almost always end up on stage banking off the drummers face, etc.) I think that should be respected. Glow sticks flying through the air look cool as hell (ive never seen it in too large a scale, but I can imagine) but all it takes is on of them hitting the drummer and throwing off his timing at a key moment, or one nailing the lead singer and making him screw up the line, to ruin the atmosphere. Some bands embrace it, do it then, some find it distracting, respect that... All im sayin.

I agree with you. I would never disrespect the band in anyway and of course you have that one bad apple that decides it would be funny to throw the glowstick at the band and ruin the show. So we take away the glowsticks, this still leaves the bad apple with many other options such as a water bottle, mud, or one of the many other throwable items in their possession. And we are willing to take this risk, so why not take the risk with the glowsticks and at least have a cool light show in return. Im not just singling out STS9 as Im sure every band would like to have the audiences undivided attention, it just seems funny to me to make a statement like that thats all
I can respect that. I was at a Phish show one time and a glowstick nailed a cymbal during a guitar solo (ok my memory is really foggy on this one, I just remember there were no drums being played at the time) and the band played it off real well and it just seemed to work. Im sure the rain of glowsticks looks cool as hell, and I hope to see it. I just would hate for it to disrupt the band or otherwise interfere with the flow of things...

Wearing a red hsirt wont affect a bands ability to perform. The possibility of them having glowsticks chucked at them , however, is. Stop trying to justify your argument because you dont have one, if someone was throwing glowsticks and hitting you while you were performing do you think you would take very kindly to it?...

The point is not to throw them at the band....they perform with the possibility of having numerous things thrown at them ie mud, water bottles, water bottles filled with mud.

However its very hard to control a crowd of such large numbers so it is better jsut to respect their wishes and not do it at all.

I dont know but Radiohead played a pretty ridiculous set with numerous glowsticks in the air last year
i could see maynard getting angry about the glowstick thing....maybe tool isnt the best band to do it for. the LAST thing i want to happen is to mess any artists flow up. i could see that happening with tool. i think the glowstick thing would go over better in a funner, lighter hearted show. tool sets are intense experiences. i would want to throw a glowstick while im dancin around and feeling really groovy. tool shows wont make you dance, they will make your mind blow.
i think everyone will be trippin out too hard to their visuals to even think about throwin a glowstick. i think their set will surprise alot of people. the visuals are INSANE
I'm gonna get a big glow-club and jump on stage and whack musicians with it. ;D
But seriously, Flaming Lips glowstick war. Let's do it up.
yeah they might get mad about that but ya fa sho, glowstick war at flaming lips is essential
^^werent you just telling me that musicians wouldnt take too lightly to being hit or the possibility of being hit with glowsticks, but its okay for the Flaming Lips. Im all for a glowstick--preferrably ring war but how did this happen. I look like the bad guy for stating my opinion in which you rebute with an argument then agree with what I was saying. So because STS9 has made a statement we shouldnt do it. How do you know these bands dont feel the same way just figure the audience is having fun so why the need to make a statement?

I completely agree with not doing the glowstick war at Tool. Their shows are ridiculous with visuals. No real need. Lips would be awesome though, i'm down. ;D
i know this might sound ridiculous but are the security folks OK with you bringing 500 glowsticks into centeroo?
if its unlicensed vending you're concerned about, i'm guessing that unless they catch you in the act of selling them, its kind of hard to prove, and definitely not their #1 priority. how do they know you aren't the type of person to go through a lot of glowsticks in one night heh.
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!
