They did this last year and I signed up. I find it a quick read, but I got some good stuff from it. I preferred the 'name your own price' Paste subscription ($1.00), that gets me a CD with every issue.

That's interesting. Is that still going on? I went to the website and looked around a bit but I can only find an offer for one free issue + cd.
Cool. I just keep ignoring their "Last Issue Before Your Subscription Ends" emails that's come with the last seven or eight issues. I guess I might as well officially re-up in case they cut me off for real. Not that I've read much of it but the gf seems to enjoy it...
It sucks that they don't just throw the volunteers a bone and add their names to the list for this, Bama.
I reupped my subscription, although I've been getting the magazine for about a decade now due to how damn cheap the renewals were. I swear to god there was a year when Spin paid ME to renew my subscription! Still, I enjoy the magazine, even if, like Colin said, it's a bit of a quick read.
Music magazines have become funny things. I received bankruptcy docs from Harp magazine -- they went under about two issues into my current sub -- kind of sad, really.
yes yes, I reupped my subscription as well!! As seems to be the sentiment, Spin is a quick/lite read but no complaints at all when I am gettin' it for free!!! And they had MMJ on the cover this year, so that was sweet......
Glad I stopped by the Rolling Stone booth this year they gave me 2 years for $20 (my subscription had just run out) and I got a really sweet RS shirt with it too. Really good deal.

Awesome, I hadn't even checked that email account until now, so thanks for the tip. I agree that Spin is a quick read but I still enjoy it. I just renewed my RS subscription and was trying to decide if I wanted to renew the SPIN one too since last year's Roo freebie is due to expire soon. This solves the problem!

Harp went under? Sucks I had a sub for three years and let it lapse. I was going to pick it back up after the wedding.

I like the two page spreads of musician's living spaces that is in SPIN. My favorite one so far has to be J. Mascis...I was mesmerized by his weirdness.

Yep, Harp went under, which is a real shame. It was one of my faves along with Mojo.
