Yeah the whole Kanye fiasco was a pain in the ass. i was on the rail before the pit for about 12 hours and the 3 1/2 i had to wait for him wasnt pretty. But my interest in kanye's music overcame my bitterness towards the whole thing. I dont know if it was pearl jams extra hour (which was incredible might i add), the fact that phil and sigur ros were on during that time (meaning kanye's ego), or the stage crews being shitty at taking down pj and setting up kanyes show. I dont know the whole story so i cant put blame on anyone, but i gotta give him some credit. If there is some definate blame it should have been how it was handled. Roo did a terrible job, no one gave us clear answers of what was going on, so the people were left askin security guards whats happening. The first half of the show that was actually in the dark was awesome(besides the technical difficulties). 'Cant tell me nothin' was prolly the best song. Kanye i thought had good presence (with the remaining 2000 or so fans) and for one man to be able to command at the stage is impressive. The second half was much more depressing i still thought he put on a good show, but i think the fact that it was light out, 6 am, and he cut the show short was a real let down. I still enjoyed his set and i hope this doesnt hurt the possibility for more hip hop artist to make appearences at future roos.
Not I, but a neighbor of mine (and one of the best friends I made all festival) said he liked it a lot. I probably would've enjoyed his set if I wasn't so damn exhausted / cramping up in my legs / sick of waiting around.
I really enjoyed his show. if it would have been performed at the time allotted then it would have been pretty amazing. I mean i have to admit the whole space them was pretty cheesy and i could have done without all that. I thought he definitely brought his A game even though it was early in the morning. Luckily, unlike a lot of people, i was wide awake, (for various reasons) so i actually was able to get into it.
The only things that i was really pissed off is that there was no explanation and if they would have just told us he wasn't going to go on until everyone else was through playing then i could have checked out other shows instead of waiting around like a jackass. i was already very divided on whether or not i should go see kanye or if i should go check out phil, ghostland or talib. The fact that i could have caught those shows instead of waiting around really kind of got to me.
But i will say it was a pretty damn good show and im not even that big of a fan of kanye.

it had its good points, if he was on time and vocal with the crowd (even a simple "how is bonnaroo this morning") I think people wouldnt have been so hard on him, his show was a little corny but overall it wasnt really all the bad once it started. his energy was a positive at least.
I liked it. I was pissed I had to wait, and miss other shows, but I decided to not buy into the negative vibes. I had already waited so might as well enjoy the show. I thought the space theme was cheesy too but a lot of it was lost because it was dawn. I also thought he brought his A game and I had a good time.
Didn't see it, but I found myself defending Kanye to the "Kanye Hates Hippies" sign holders with a "And you hate him, as well. So it's all good, right?"

Did anyone see Robert Randolph having the crowd chant "Kanye Sucks" at his show? I certainly did! Me and thousands of others agreed that what he did to everybody waiting to see him is totally f*cked up. As Randolph said "you guys pay a lot of money to come and see good music and for Kanye to do that to all of you is messed up" So in the spirit of the majority of Bonnaroo I can proudly say... KANYE SUCKS!!!!!! ;D But I am glad some of you had fun! To Each His Own...Peace!

I enjoyed the wave of "F*@K KANYE!!!" that traveled throughout the campsite on Sunday morning. I was ambivalent towards the whole situation but that made me laugh. ;D I guess I'm heartless.
I wasnt really expecting much from kayne and thought he delivered a good performance. I didnt mind the wait because I passed out for a little bit and woke up to people shouting "Kayne Sucks". The coolest part was the show finishing at sunrise and seeing how exhausted and drained people were on the way back.
I went into the set very excited, especially once it was moved to 2:45 and I didn't have to split time with JJ. I was enjoying Ghostland and the Other Tent hip hop festivities but I was okay with cutting out for Kanye's show.
I was really peeved by the way the situaion was handled with the delays, both by SuperFly and Kanye. Some respectful communication would've gone a long way with me.
His set itself was a bit cheesy with the fake "planet" and the wretched, too-lame-for-porn dialogue with Jane (especially prior to "Gold Digger") but his perfomance itself was pretty good. I didn't go into it expecting a backing band and the songs themselves are solid. His refusal to break "character" and acknowledge the events that have unfolded was stupid and/or arrogant.
That said, I really tried to stay neutral about the blame game. I found it hard to blame Pearl Jam since their set only ran 45 minutes long and that would only explain until 3:30 even if there wasn't already an assumption that they'd play over two hours. The crew was still working on the stage, but I don't know how much of it was busy work, how much was "Kanye's not going on stage for two hours -- take your time" and how much of it was actually sweating to get the job done as quick as possible. There surely was a decent amount of time where nothing was going on prior to Kanye taking the stage.
So, I could've blamed Roo or Kanye for the actual delay. That is, until the next day. I've got to think that when an artist as wired-in to Bonnaroo as Robert Randolph calls Kanye out as the cause of the delay, his opinion is probably pretty well informed. Kanye Sucks indeed.
But, in direct answer to your original querie, yes, I thought the music was solid but it was really uncomfortable to be there and I was relieved when the set was put out of its misery.

it really bothered me how much everyone blamed kanye. everyone kept trying to tell me that it was just his ego and he was just delaying things intentionally, which was obviously not the case. everyone saying "fuck kanye" bugged me. it wasn't his fault. i can understand criticizing him if you didn't like the show, but the personal hatred of him seemed a bit much.

I found it quite humorous waking up at 4 in the morning after being worn out from Pearl Jam and hearing the moans among the tent about how much Kanye sucks. I though there was gonna be a riot! ROFL
I was so glad I didn't stay up to be that disappointed. I saw the best shows there anyways and that was good enough for me!

YE...i saw people enjoying the Kanye show.there wer eplenty of people dancing and having a good time..i enjoyed myself the first 20 min or so then i realized there was no glow and there was no dark ....

I've seen him once before and that set (actual performance...not rapping to pre-choreographed/recorded routine) was much better. Still this was okay and because I'm a fan it was worth the wait (especially when you consider at least half of that wait was due to an awesome 3 encore set from Pearl Jam which I saw) He also get some pity from me for the poor treatment he received from about 1/3 (by my estimate) of the people who stuck around. The other 2/3 of people who stuck around did so for a reason and think they would side with me that is wasn't terrible. Still I hope he doesn't do the glow in the dark thing when I see him in August at Virgin Mobile Festival in Baltimore along with Dylan, Iggy & the Stooges & Nine Inch Nails, plus a few other interesting acts.

ya i could tell the show would have been sweet if i didnt have to see how spun all the people around me looked when the sun came up i was about as close as GA could get you so when i got there i was stuck so i didnt really have a choice in waiting even though i missed ghostland and sigur ros i have to think about all the other cool shows i saw that ounumber that PJ,DCFC,les claypool so i think iv'e gotten over the whole thing
We had fun at the set, but were VERY taken back by the abrupt ending. We were partying pretty hardcore that night, so we were having an impromptu dance party even before his set started...
Also... I apparently was doing a good bit of acapella Beastie Boys rapping. Guess I went through most of Licensed to Ill while waiting for Kanye to come out.
Were there REALLY 2000 or so people left in the crowd? Seemed like a hell of a lot more there when everyone was walking out!

Seriously though, no I didn't enjoy it. It was awful. It was embarrassing. And it was an insult. Zero talent. That it is NOT art nor is it music. It is idiotic, commercial cheese for the lowest common denominator. And to top it all off, he's a major A-Hole too. Perfect...
Besides didn't Bowie do this "space schtick" 40 years ago??? Only about 2000000000x better.
I had one of the best times that I had all weekend at his set.
Ditto.
I can't say it was one of the better shows I saw, but it was definitely one of the more unique experiences I've ever had at Roo. I wandered over on a bored whim after Phil, with my new found camp neighbors and was taken in by all the confusion and frustration. It was kind of funny. ;D Then when he finally came on, my drunken a$$ was dancing around like a mad man. There was something cool about the stage being so empty as the sun was coming up -- he was as loud as all hell -- then it was done as suddenly as it had started!

They played "Paul Revere" during the wait - our group thought we were the only ones singing along!
We also got down to Rob Base, which also brought blank stares from our neighbors
