Well I had already made a decision to go see Chali2na, and galactic was with him. I got to be on the rail for one of the best hip hop shows I have ever seen. I didn't think I would ever say this but, YAY KANYE !!!!!

What a moron. His set gets switched to be the first ever Bonnaroo late-night main stage show, and he's like three hours late. I take back anything I ever said about him being good or smart in any way, shape, or form. Kanye haters, I openly apologize. You were right.
I never intended to see his show, but for the people that did, that's ridiculous.
what little respect this guy had from me is completely gone, hoodoo and his woman talked to one of the soundtechs that worked his show and said that the reason he didn't come out was because he didn't want to play at the same time as anyone else. i was fighting to stay awake yet i was there, we stayed until 3:15 and then it changed again! hes a funkin' loser!

I was one of those on here very excited for Kanye's set, and like many I too think he ruined the opportunity to prove himself. It's not just that he was late and people were pissed, it's that he clearly didn't give a sh*t.
I'd compare his set to Metallica's. Two controversial members of the line-up. One acknowledges this several times during their show, and plays their asses off to prove that they do belong. The other couldn't care less, ignores the crowd and the situation, and to add insult to injury, truncates the show.
This whole thing was almost worth it though, as Sunday's "Kanye sucks" chants were some of the best moments of the festival.

no respect at all. appalling really. i really hope entertainment weekly rips him a new asshole for this and instead of giving him a B+ gives him a Z-. epic epic failure.

I'd also like to add that Metallica at least seemed to give it their all...they looked REALLY excited to be there, and they definitely got my respect for that, even if I left after a few songs. I heard they even played three or four encores. Oh, and the Metallica fans were awesome, no problems from any of them, they seemed to love the atmosphere, too. Kirk even guested for the late nights, which was also awesome.
Kanye, though. That man embarassed himself. Way to keep those fans, you fool. And all the artists' comments gave me the impression that he was a jerk in person.
Alright, I want to weigh in on this just a little. I know the Kanye hate runs really deep around here, and I'm angry too, I would've much rather gone to more Sigur Ros and some Ghostland Observatory instead of trying to show up for Kanye, but I just wanted to throw some stuff out there.
This was a failure at every level. I know every loves Pearl Jam and would've let them play all night long if they would've let them, but they played WAY over their set time. Before any of this happened though, there should've been communication from Kanye West's people saying how much time they would need to set the show up. Did this happen? We don't know. If it did, then a lot of fault lies with AC, if not then it's back to Kanye. Also, he was only an hour and 45 minutes late, putting him 45 minutes over his set time. Should someone have come out and at least explained the situation/apologized? Yes, absolutely, but in the rush of trying to set something up I'm sure it just got brushed under the rug. This was a failure on Kanye's tech staff or at least himself.
Finally, the speculation. This is silly. We have absolutely no evidence that he whined about wanting to be moved later in the night. There's absolutely no evidence that he whined and wanted to go on being the only act on stage. I know this guy has an ego/temper, but how did you find out about it? Because a major news/media company reported on it happening. That hasn't happened yet, so I'm still pretty skeptical.
Long story short: AC failed by either not knowing the set up times or not ensuring Kanye would have enough time for set-up. Kanye's team failed by not acknowledging the crowd in any way. The rumors are silly and unsubstantiated and really only add to the "RAWR KANYE SUX SO BAD!!" sentiment instead of actually trying to think about what happened/went on.

^i agree with you - and ive said in my previous posts on this matter that its more than one persons fault. HOWEVER - the fact that he didnt say ANYHTING during his set is proof enough that he really didn't care/doesnt care that much about his fans. or his fans at roo anyways.
^and multiple people have posted about talking to people from ac or sound techs and they said the same thing so i believe it. id be pissed if i was at phil and they had to shut down early due to this monstrosity.
My husband ran into someone in the Which stage area sometime around 4:30 that morning who said he was filming a Bonnaroo documentary. The guy was fully eqiupped with professional videography equipment, leading me to believe that he was completely legitimate.... ANYWAY, the guy said that what really happened was Kanye refused to go on stage while others were still performing, and demanded to be the act to close out Saturday night. He didn't want any "competition" (which I think is ridiculous, considering the polar opposite-ness of all acts playing at that time), so he kept delaying his act. My own opinion is that there's NO freaking way it's Pearl Jam's fault for playing on... I mean, seriously, Bonnaroo has been taking place for a fair number of years now, and there has NEVER been that large of a delay, regardless of how ornate and involved the set has been. Maybe I'm just bitter. I was lucky enough to do VIP, and it was great in so many ways, so I'm not bitching, but I really wish I hadn't been able to hear that crap so clearly from my tent once he finally started my set. Me = no longer a fan.

I don't really think it matters whether or not he whined to get the main-stage performance...honestly, I don't think that was the case, as Bonnaroo is definitely bigger than Kanye...I think they wanted to do that the whole time but had to clear it with Coffee County first.
The main point is that his set change was a big deal, it made him very conspicuous (what with the signs at the entrances and all), and he totally dropped the ball. I'm not judging him on his character that much, because I don't know the guy, but he made some AWFUL decisions from a business standpoint. Boneheaded.
i wrote on one of the walls stipulating what u can't bring into roo.
No Bottles No Pets No Illegal Substances No ETC No Kanye
i got a few laughs haha.
wow what a weekend, not one person i talked to (except for some gangsta white chick) had anything good to say about him. everything i want to say has already been said, but seriously...WTF!
i'm glad robert randolph did what he did, and does anyone know where those cameras were feeding to during his show? cause i know for sure that cameraman was filming the Kanye sucks chant. priceless.
I heard Kanye was sacraficing babies behind the stage but one got away and he wouldnt go on until they brought him a replacement because he has to sacrafice exactly 13.

I talked to a sound guy that totally confirms this! I can't believe he would only sacrifice 13, I mean come on Friday the 13th was the day before! LAME!
"I wasn't gonna go see Kanye perform anyway, yet he still managed to piss me off even though I wasn't one of the poor people waiting to see him. I was thoroughly enjoying Phil Lesh, when Phil comes out and announces that he has been asked to end his set over an hour early so that Kanye West can perform on the main stage. For those who were there, you know Phil's audience was NOT happy. And why, at Bonnaroo, would ANY other artist have to stop playing so someone else can start on another stage? Then I find out that Phil could have played for at least another two hours before Kanye came on the main stage. So, not only did Kanye West screw his own fans, he also screwed the rest of us who were really hoping for an epic late-night set from Phil Lesh. I hope promoters across the country take note of this. "
Is this true? Did anyone experience this? If so, to quote sparklybecca: wow.

I can confirm they were having a great time. I was in the pit and have the pics to prove it
so, despite all this does anyone else think it was still pretty lame of Robert Randolph to start a "Kanye Sucks" chant? It seems petty and childish to me.

I see it as Robert Randolph including himself in the Bonnaroo community. This is something Metallica successfully did and something Kanye didn't even attempt and in turn failed miserably at. I honestly think Randolph was offended by his move... I don't know if he was somewhere waiting to watch or what, but he seemed just as fed up with it as rest of the community. I loved it
I just see no need for it since people were chanting it at kanyes own show, its not like Kanye is gonna be like "oh man robert randolph doesnt like me I'm terrible" he prob doesnt even know who robert randolph is and he was prob in another state like 6 minutes after his show was done. I just feel things like that don't belong at bonnaroo. who know maybe im just wierd.
like I wouldnt mind if he just said a little something about but to start an anger fueled chant just rubs me the wrong way.
