I saw Kanye last night at a nearly sold out show 14,000 + I have to say he was terrible!! I am not a giant fan but I really do like a few songs as was looking forward to the show. The sound was HORRIBLE....keep cranking the bass til the building shakes and then crank your vocals to the breakpoint and still scream into the mic...absolutely terrible. As for "glow in the dark" It was just another GOOD light show...nothing special at all. Some silly spacescape effects. I was hoping for a more trippy glow in the dark effects with black lights and paints. While some of the HD projections looked great alot more could have been done with them (ala Roger Waters this year). Now for the really bad part (bring on the smite I am sure) What an Ego!! How do you have that large of stage and keep it to yourself? Every single backing performer was in an orchestra syle pit area in virtual darkness. The night was a bit too much about "him" and his ego for me. When you have a computer generated voice refer to you as "the greatest performer in the universe" you are trully feeding your own ego. Only good part about the night is now I don't have a conflict at Broo and can get comfy for Jack Johnson and prepare to have my face melted by Pearl Jam. BBBOOONNNNNAAAARRRROOOOO!!!!

I won't smite you or anything cuz that's just silly to do........but in my opinion it's not Kanye being egotistical that he's the only one on stage. It's part of the show and I find it refreshing that he doesn't have a whole entourage on like any other rap concert. Rather than 5 guys yelling choruses and punchlines into the microphones and sounding all garbled and excessive.......it's one man on the stage.
To me that makes a more intimate show........that focuses on whatever story he's trying to tell.
Don't get me wrong here........he's got a huge ego and I can't STAND when he rushes award show stages to complain or he bitches about grammys and stuff like that. He's great but his head always seems to make me annoyed.
Either way tho........sux to hear you disliked the show. The sound system thing is a big problem that should probably be worked out better. I expect his show at Bonnaroo to be good.......but we'll see.

Thanks for the "nonsmite" I totally didnt want the the whole hypeman routine like Public Enemy when the stage was so crowded you couldnt even tell who was yelling it got so bad....just a few lights on the "band" or to at least have them actually on the stage instead of hidden. I hope he rocks out at Bonnaroo for you guys and I end up hearing I missed a great show. I will be very happy for you guys
Nope, I went to Chali2na with Galactic until the sun came up, then I forcefully listened to Kanye while I tried to sleep. Sounds like they were not needed anyway he made a ass out of himself without my help at all.

So here's your answer to the most anticipated questions of the weekend: what time would Kanye start, and would I go? Well, Kanye went on at 4:29 a.m., and I stayed for about three songs. I found out when I got here this morning that he went on to play for a grand total of one hour. Total. A single hour. I do not want to know how much they paid him for that; it probably could have bought everyone in this crowd an Escalade and offset their carbon emissions for a year. The only word that comes to mind is "lame," specially coming off Friday night's Jacket marathon........
Back in the press trailer after the Pear Jam show, I paid a dollar to join a "When Will Kanye Go On" pool (I had 4:20, dammit)......
At 3:45 a.m., the Pearl Jam trucks rolled out the front gates, and my group of stronghearted companions and I decided it was time to head for the soundboard to wait on His Egoness........
We were told we could not pass. This was particularly irksome because many of my companions were in possession of the all-powerful "Infinity" laminates, meaning that they are rather in charge of, you know, running the festival. "Infinite isn't so infinite anymore," one security guard said. We asked who the guards worked for, Bonnaroo or Kanye. "Kanye is Bonnaroo right now," we were told. It was 4:10 a.m. From the mainstage, we could hear the crowd booing.....
Now that I know he only played an hour, maybe I should have stayed. But at the risk of starting my own beef with the man-- that's right, Kanye, I ain't skeered-- I really do not think the kind of self-importance that leads to demanding your set be moved to the mainstage then rescheduled for night at which point you will force a crowd full of tired, broken children to stand in a field for two and a half hours past your rescheduled start time is anything I wish to support. You are a rich, rich man, Kanye. You make good music that people like. Stop being such a douche all the time.

uh? went to kanye after PJ and checking out Phil Lesh while star gazing , and was hoping his live show would be able to change my opinion. well 3:00 AM rolls around and no Kanye, and we notice hes been moved to 3:15 AM, and a few minutes later joked about how it would soon be moved to 3:30. when we realized that was no joke we decided to head out of centeroo quite put off by the whole incident. I wasnt thinking clearly to say the least and forgot Ghostland was even on, not to mention i could have stayed for Phil Lesh longer, and also found out Sunday morning that one of my favorite bands Galactic showed up for a sunrise set with Chali 2na.
fuck kanye
edit: IMO no light show is worth waiting that long after the scheduled start time. if you are that good just come on stage with your mic and do it.
lol... didnt see that one coming. good work superfly! coulda booted kanye. gave his money to someone decent and had umph play latenight. but hey. kanye sold tickets and got roo mentioned on mtv and pop radio stations. mission accomplished i suppose. its pretty fitting. kanye pretty much represents what i feel about superfly and roo. im sure they all made lots of money

Wow, aren't you just full of sunshine.
Kanye could have been an incredible show. He could have went on time and fucking rocked it. The GITD tour could have been a highlight of the weekend, leaving everyone with a respect for the man, and Superfly could have told everyone talking shit (like you), I told you so. But it didn't happen like that. Shit happens, people screw you over. Kanye screwed over the whole crowd, and his reputation most of all. Superfly puts on an amazing festival, with more diversity, growth, and substance than any other fest. What have you created?

This is just laughable to me
Even when Dude does get it right in the end in calling Kanye as a bad choice for a late late night act, and makes a suggestion that I'm sure atleast 99% of the people in attendance would've been happy with in hindsight (that being Umph at night instead of mid afternoon) people still hate. Hilarious ;D

no matter what, there will always be prejudice, biased idea, self opinions...personally...i thought that was the rudest crowd i have even seen...anywhere...i thought at bonnaroo you leave your haterade at home...silence the hate and listen to the music (on another note this year i seen alot more mean mugs...WHY YOU MAD...YOUR AT BONNAROO...)
i know...and totally understand why you were upset...no reason for a wait that long...i missed 5 shows i wanted to see...and gald to hear that galatic got on with charli2na...i was second row...waited just as long if not longer than everyone else...the only thing negative i have to say about the kanye show is that throwing glow sticks and full water bottles at the stage and breaking monitors..showed a lack of respect...not only to Kanye West and the HARD WORKING men that spent 2 hours setting the stage up and cleaning up YOUR mess...but to AC and Superfly...who strained diligently to put together the best show they could...
If you were pissed cause he showed up late...nobody put a gun to your head and TOLD you to go...you were more than welcome to go back to your camp...or check another show out...or get sooo quacked up you couldnt remember the show...
sorry to rant...i respect all artist...didnt know this year the changed the name to Bonnaroode

the crowd was rude when kanye's set was continually pushed back 15 minutes at a time for 2 hours? quack off quack KANYE and anyone who defends his quacking antics. the light show was not worth the wait, if you are that good come on stage and do it already.
quack KANYE
edit: why am i mad at Bonnaroo? because this jackass decides not to show up for his set

So...my friends and I were more glow in the dark then Kanye. Anyone take notice to the fact that he did not once address the crowd or apologize for being late? I was so pumped for that show so people could see that he is a talented artist...but he fucked up big time.

The members of Inforoo totally need to make and wear "Quack Kayne" t-shirts for next year.
Well it also seems like there is quite a bit of eveidence he was down in Atlanta partying all night. I saw a picture of him at a radio station party time stamped to 1:45 eastern or 12:45 bonnaroo time. He never had any intention of showing up on time he just figured everyone was there to see him. What makes me happy though is that I am pretty sure there were more folks at Chali2na than Kanye, so his ego did not get fed that much.
"That's the big thing about education. People can be book smart, but not really intelligent about anything else. A lot of times they just taking in all this information and regurgitate it. It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."

All he had to do was think to himself.. this elaborate light show isn't going to be any good in the daylight.. the fans are telling me I suck.. maybe just MAYBE I should forget waiting another hour for my show to be set up, go on stage, and give these fans the good set they paid for. My biggest Roo 08 regret was waiting by that stage when I could've been at Phil or chali2na
well hearing all the stories of fights, shoving, crushing crowds and kanye im so freeking happy i bailed from roo... and i know i waited until there was no hope left. but im so happy that there are other fests out there that made it so roo could even happened. but roo took that and abused the scene and now roo is is a joke. it can never go back. it will either be an mtv shitshow wiith the problems that go along with fests like that until woodstock type poop happens or it will go under from everyone saying quack it. there are only so many radio bands out there. and they put on the same show everytime. the true festie scene bands have fans that want to see 500 shows. radio bands its only cool for a time or two. but i guess there is a whole new generation of young mtv radio kids who dont know any better looking for a way to get quacked up, act retarded, and celebrate graduation coming around every year. god im glad i finally broke ties with my love of roo. but in reality roo dumped me. and thousands more that helped build it. not only that but everyone hates superfly now. good luck with thtat property and throwing more fests, because i know no one thats in a rush to invest their money in anything superfly is ever going to do again. they are the walmart of festie land. only with less of a future. i put giving superfly money right up there with my taxes killing innocent people in iraq. not quite as bad, but its still disgusting!. im so freeking happy that all good is around the bend. good music, good people, and goodtimes. the mighty dollar takes a back seat and i cant wait. no 300 dollar ticket. no radio/mtv music and the a$$hole artists and fans that crap brings, no security jacking everyone, no cops... damn i cant wait!!!
hey all you not-sees???? can you see now? the journey is complete. "we have arrived" isnt the diversity beautiful and is it safe to say kanyes a Summers breeze now. roo came and went. hes still a Summers breeze and a horrible performer (i wont even call him a musician) and hey the wish list is in for next year... its lookin like tenacious d and weezer head the list. sounds like another diverse time!!!!!
