What a jerk. If people don't think he is God's Gift to Hip Hop he acts like a baby. Conceit is a trait that blinds one's self to the fact that all people see things differently than you do. Some will agree, some will not. Why Kanye hasn't learned that yet, I don't know.
Bottom line is, his personality doesn't effect the quality of his music, whatsoever. For the good or for the bad.
That is true, and while arrogance is a common theme amongst the rap/ hip-hop community, it is nice to be watching a show and actually like the guy on stage as well as his music. Not that a pompous attitude would be enough to keep me personally from going to a show that I was interested in, but a lot of friends of mine will refuse to listen to any ungrateful stars in the music business.
I just think it's easier to enjoy a show if you look up on stage and think "What an awesome guy... and he's so good at what he does!" rather than looking and thinking "he's got talent and that's about it"

Yes!
But I do think a musician's personality comes out through their music. It's natural--music, for those who take it seriously, is an extension of one's self. So, if a person is, to use a positive adjective, passionate about life, there's a pretty strong chance their music will be, too.
Then again, I'm sure there are plenty of musicians who are completely shy and quiet in real life (irl) and explode on stage. Even in that case, however, it's possible that they really are that way irl and just need a stage persona to let it out.
Back to the post I quoted, yes-- it makes a difference to me if I respect the person on stage as a person. But it's hard to make those kinds of decisions about people who are in the public light so much that you can't tell what is true about them, and what is originated and perpetuated by media.
Watchin' a stretch of road, miles of light explode. Driftin' off a thing I'd never done before. Watchin' a crowd roll in. Out go the lights it begins. A feelin' in my bones I've never felt before...

I hope Kanye has perfected his "art" for bonnaroo. I myself am not a fan but a glow in the dark set sounds fun and I planned on stopping by. I know some people are really excited for his set or at least mildly interested. I truly hope he puts on a memorable show however, if his show is completely lacking in entertainment and dreadful I would hope that the crowd responds in a fitting way. Booing him may be a bit much but if the show is awful and the crowd slowly begins to dwindle as dissatisfied fans walk away it will be fun listening to him yell obsceneties at all the "fucking dirty hippies" that don't know what real art is. Either way Kanye West's set will be monumental and isn't that what we are all hoping for.
i have a feeling that kanyes show will be without hippies. i assume hes a latenight. i can assure you the 15 hippies that still go to roo will be at a different tent. in 04 there would have been a total of 10 people at kanyes show. most of those being his family. but im sure he will get a decent turnout at new roo. and im betting most of those will give him the a+ he feels he so rightly deserves.
what would kanye do if there was a real effort on the web to organize roosters into bringing giant B+ posters at this set... would he bitch on his blog? cancel his appearance?
there is more than enough time for something like this to be organized... and for him to find out about it. (and the funny thing is, i want to see his set - so im not out to get him).

HEY BRO SIT THE HELL DOWN YOU'RE RUINING THE PEACEFUL VIBES
I really have mixed feelings about all of this. I like a few of Kanye's songs but i'm not a huge fan. When I heard that he was doing a glow set I was really excited mainly for that. Then I saw a youtube video of his show and honestly it was very boring. After kinda feeling let down about the glow set Kanye has to act like a big baby. He seems to think that no one likes him and everyone is out to get him. This is his third public event where he felt that he had to announce to the world that he's the best and quack everyone else. It's getting pretty old! I'm really tired of listening to him complain about something. Whether it's he should have won an award, he didn't receive a high enough grade, or getting cut off by music after receiving an award.
I would say that the odds of his set being packed have definately dwindled down a lot.

Kanye has a big ego. James Brown had a big ego. Most rappers have big egos. Most rockstars have big egos. Most all of them are a giant, festering, neon collection of assholes who make music, which very little room for exception.
So what? Kanye has a bit of a superiority complex. We all have our quirks.

The bitterness of posts like this are real karma busters man. I'm just sayin'.

lol....... telling someone to kill himself is quite a quirk.... I mean I understand the quirk thing and you are right about most artists being jerks but that doesn't make it ok...nothing makes it ok for another human being to be nasty like that...regardless of who they are

rap music is ruining bonnaroo
shitty music is ruining roo. no ones complainng about chali 2 na. i didnt hear any complaints about lyrics born or j-5. or the roots (although i dont care for them) poop i dont even remember any complaints about cypress hill. just the pop radio/mtv "music" that either isnt so good to begin with or was good 20 years ago when it was original and new, but not so much anymore. i guess it boils down to rap vs. hip hop. they are very different and imo rap sux. add to that the conceited asshats whining that everyone dosent worship them, or roo-union sh!t shows and the past couple of years it seems like roo has been giving us lineups that would have been the poop in 1990 but are kinda sad now. petty, tool, police, metallica...and dare i say.. PJ.... poop even the led zeppelin rumor had me worried. not another crappy reunion, featuring out of date and out of practice musicians that really dont care for each other putting on sh!t shows for mass amounts of cash.

ya i admit im a bit bitter about new roo. but i blame them. they should have never given me a B+!!!!
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it
no problem "you silly stallion" (in my best big gay al voice)
i feel a poop coming on. ill pinch one off and get that to ya as soon as possible
and to be completely fair. rem, the beastie boys, and the killers are in the same boat. it just hasnt effected the crowd in the way it all has at roo. probably because lango and echo arent covered by cnn, mtv, and every pop/country/metal/classic rock radio station in america. but basically im just bitter about roo as a whole. the lineup, the crowd, the security, tthe price, the dust, the fact that shakedown has been destroyed by pricing and rules, and just the overall feel of roo has changed from peace, love, and music into cash, cash, and cash.

*yawn* Here we go again. Commence the bickery. Prepare to hear the words 'MTV', 'sucks', 'mainstream', 'jam', 'band', 'hipsters', 'change', and eventually, 'locked'. Happens every year.

roo got bigger. more popular. it gets more attention. if it was still managed like it was a small time affair, then there would be problems. sorry the custies (and the other confusing and all-encompassing stereotypes you use so often) started showing up. you know what? they are going to find the next thing you love so much.
on the plus side, it gives you another thing to complain about.
