I would consider them a one hit wonder. great band but only one song anyone remembers.
Maybe "One Hit wonder" was misleading, but maybe just bands that you'd go crazy for or be really excited that most people wouldn't care about. Pete Yorn was kind of like that for me last year. He got one of the early spots on Sunday, but to me he was a big deal. I guess most people didn't feel the same.

I like the FoW mention, I really enjoy them as well. Great little show last year.
And same with A-Ha... "Take on Me" is easily one of the greatest songs ever written, and I say that with a straight face.
I'll put out They Might Be Giants. I guess there are some who would consider them a one-(or two?)-hit-wonder, although I've been so deep into them for so long it's difficult for me to see them that way. But perhaps, there's some poor soul somewhere...

^Yeah, you'd be in the front row with your Orange Goblin shirt on and I'd be somewhere making fun of a band that named themselves Orange Goblin......Not that they don't look awesome!!
they are a great band though, but its kinda like naming .. sleep or high on fire or hidden hand or the obsessed or iron monkey or ACID BATH or buzzov*en
its more of a cult status than a one hit wonder
sorry i went on a tangent there.. i saw orange goblin and got all excited

Oh, no... they have no HITS that I am aware of... I was going on this...
I'm not ashamed to say I liked Fountains of Wayne quite a lot, but that wish was already granted. It's hard to say about other current one-hit wonders because if their career is not over, they might have another hit.
I, too, love FOW, even though I had to miss them for the Hold Steady. However, while their career is certainly far from over, I doubt they'll have another hit, since Stacy's Mom was kind of a novelty hit. Its too bad that's all they're known for, because they have a pretty excellent catalog of songs.

If you like crazy cool anarcho folk, check out anything Chumbawamba that is non-"Tubthumping." That band had alot of cool ideas, and a really unique sound.
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**
Harvey Danger. . . "Flagpole Sitta" still makes me happy everytime I hear it. I played the sh!t out of the Where Have All the Merrymakers Gone? album when I was 16 and just had my license. I listened to it a few weeks ago just for the hell of it and still enjoyed most of it. I think it's one of the more underrated alternative rock albums of the '90s, actually. The one they released after that was pretty good as well. Don't know if they're still together or not these days..

I love when Harvey Danger comes on my xm radio I always turn it up and roll the window down!
Also Edie Brickell is my all time fav! I wish she would show up at the roo. I have every cd the New Bohemians have ever released along with several live boots in my collection. I put her in the same class of World Party who appeared at Bonnaroo in '06. They put on a great show I would love if they would come back also.
I love the Toadies....and not only are they a one-hit wonder...but half the time people don't even know them by their one hit (Possum Kingdom) but rather as the "DO YOU WANNA DIE!?!" song.
Interesting - as a Brit, a lot of your one-hit wonders were actually (reasonably) established artists back home. I'm sure that the opposite is true also.
