I see alot of people saying they should build bathrooms. I disagree with this. just imagine a permanent bathroom with plumbing and all the problems that could arise as opposed to the simplicity of the portojohn. if you had a bathroom, and one toilet got backed up or started spilling over you would pretty much ruin the whole area until they could get some plumbers in there. just imagine a big permanent bathroom with all those people lined up going in and out throwing huge ammounts of toilet paper in the flush.
Another plus to the port-a-potties is that they must be serviced regularly, and it was easy to open the doors and spray them out. (Does anyone know if they use some sort of disinfectant or just water? I've always wondered that before I sat down) A typical restroom facility, overflows aside, would get nasty pretty quick if it were not being serviced almost constantly. They would have to be smartly designed to allow for simliar spray-cleaning.
Another thought... the port-a-potties are muti-gender. Regular restrooms would leave that long line for the women. It evens itself out with the port-a-potties.
Wow, I never thought I would be extolling the virtues of port-a-potties!
that long line for the women was there anyways. After Tom Petty I can remember using a communal wall to the back of the field with at least 100 other males because the lines for the portajohns were so ridiculous.
swimming would be awesome. then you wouldnt need showers. nelson ledges has a beautiful quarry for swimming right neear the stge. you can float on a raft or chill on the beach and listen to the show. even if you cant see it. that alone makes it my favorite festie site.
as for bathrooms at the gathering of the vibes they had actual crappers. and they had an attendant at everyone that only let you in when there was a n available spot and mopped tthe floor and fixed any over flow problems immediatly. they were volunteers but they had a tip jar at the door and looked to be doing really well. they still had porta potties too. it was nice to have a clean spot to drop a deuce that was always stocked with tp.
im hoping that maybe with them owning it we might get earlier entry. if they have more permanent things they wont have as much set up. and if they own it they will have plenty of time to setup stuff. if they openend it in monday or tuesday it would greatly cut down on the lines. they should have a smaller fest the weekend before roo and just let you stay till roo.
i dont want hotels and movie theathers clutering up the view. id accept it if they put it behind the main stage, made it at least 20 floors high, and put lights and laser all over it. then id be happy. but i still wouldnt use it.
there is a fest, in ny i think, claypool was there last year. anyways they have cabins on site that you can rent. not big ones. just little campground type cabins put up 5 feet from eachother. but i could see something like that going up at roo. although no matter what they have ill be camping with the regulars. showering and airconditioning is for the weak!!!

I think that they should build an ark due to the excessive rain the festival has historically got. And it could double as a home for a jam cruise.
As far as the hotel thing goes there is absolutely no way to make money on it in that location. I've worked in the hotel industry for a dozen years now and they are mad expensive to construct and to run. The area essentially has demand about two weeks a year right now. They'd need to make the area a year-round attraction and that takes time. Even then, in order to bring in big revenues they'd need to build a big-ass hotel which requires more demand. In the end, it's just not worth the hassle. That said, if they're hiring I'll be happy to come and run the joint!!! (Sorry to bring shop talk into this!)
I could see them building some bare-bones, barracks-like accomodations on site for their staff so that they don't have to pay for hotel rooms for them, though.

i agree with more trees. shade is nice. but its only a matter of time before somone falls climbing the trees that are there now. ive seen a couple close calls at the second stage. they can possibly avoid a lawsuit from the climber on the grounds they violated rules and are not very bright. but whoever they fall on would have a nice fat lawsuit on their hands. so im waiting for tree removal actually.

i am all for a lake... in '05 we were camped near one of those little lake thingies (which was probably actually really dirty) that was all fenced off, and i wanted to jump in sooooo badly many hot mornings. i was really surprised that no one broke in the whole time. that would be the only improvement i need!

i agree with pretty much everyone-they need bathrooms, showers, medical facilities, waterlines and crap like that, maybe some cabins or huts or teepees or some alternate to a tiny ass tent that you spend 4 hours trying to find like i did in 2005, but please no movie theatres and hotels, or other commercial pop corporate bullshit like that, thats not bonnaroo

hookups for campers would be nice. i've never brought an rv, but probably would if there were hookups. I'm not into the movie theatre thing or hotel. But a limitied number of cabins reserved for those with disabilities/elders wouldn't be too bad.
Instead of a movie theater or a cinema tent I think they should set up A massive screen (much like the ones they use on the main stage) And show the movies via that. And maybe converting the comedy tent to the size of the stage tents. That way it'd eliminate the hellacious lines to both.
Also, maybe setting up a small recycling depot. It'd save clean vibes from having to transport all of the trash, and it could operate year-round. The nearest recycling center is Murfreesboro and it just isn't feesable to drive forty-five minutes just to recycle.
I doubt that a hotel would do well, but the cabins were a good idea. Maybe a VIP only thing, to compensate for the installation of restrooms.
Maybe they can have it approved to have a decent entrance/exit ramp running off of 24 set up to eliminate the traffic problem.
They say they're trying to revolutionize the modern music festival. I doubt that we'll see anything big this year, but within the next few I'd be willing to bet that their revenue goes through the roof. I honestly doubt that anything's out of the question financially. I'm pretty confident that AC and Superfly have something very big up their sleeves for the future of bonnaroo. I just hope I'm around to see it.
My only concern about a lake would be the likelihood of people getting too messed up and either forgetting how to swim, or forgetting that they never knew how in the first place. The last thing we need are a coupld of drownings a the Roo.
Permanent Electric tie-ins for the Main stages, tents and vending areas. It might also be cool to have electric drops to certain VIP camping areas. The idea would be to eliminate generators - except for emergency back up of the performing spaces. A sound investments that if done right would not prevent the land from being farmed off season.
Permanent plumbing tie-ins with filters to remove the sulfur. I think the idea of some composting toilets would be a good idea and maybe even certain all season traditional "flush" toilets in some areas but the reality is that unless toilets get used a lot (composting or flush) a once a year burst for two weeks is not a great investment based on cost nor the environment. As much as we hate porta-potties the waste is taken to a treatment facility.
Permanent bases for the This That & Other "tents" so that during the fest large covered spaces can be erected - much larger than the current tents.
A permanent "main stage" area that could be used multiple times per year for events or concerts of a smaller size.
On site event storage area so that items like trash cans, cones, and the hundreds of other things don't need to get rented ever year - including portable walkways.
Just some thoughts to add to everyone elses ideas. It will be a great adventure to see what actually happens. I hope whatever is done is done well.

Maybe they can install those disc things around them like they use to try and keep squirrels out of bird feeders. Granted, squirrels are smart enough to get around them but I'm not sure about f'ed up hippies...

i agree . we still have a few drive in movie places operating around here. they could surley do that style of movies. i think that would be great
at gatherin of the vibes they showed a never before seeen dead video on the mainstage screen on thursday when there was no music.
they also played videos between sets. at a good volume too. i remember some string chees. and there was a funny moment when the dude next to us started freeking out because they were showing a claypool show. he was so excited about an unannouced claypool show. i hated to burst his bubble his bubble and tell him it was a video. he said i should have let him go on enjoying. ahhh good times!

Also... The big screens on the big stage should play videos of shows from previous roos instead of just songs over the loudspeaker. Now that'd be something.
I don't know if the lake idea would work out unless it was accompanied by serious pumps and filters, somewhat like freshwater beaches/water parks. Otherwise it would be a lake of sewage and garbage after a day or two. Here in the south rafting and canoeing is pretty popular party activity and it's not uncommon for some places (Spring River comes to mind) to look like a garbage dump from all of the inconsiderate partyers. I can't imagine what a lake would look like with 100 x the amount of people in it all day. Now imagine that smell in the 105 degree Tennessee sun... If Cofeee county has some rivers that could be diverted onto the farm that would be absolutely fantastic, though.
'Roo could definitely use some cabins or temporary shelters, real bathrooms and an extra interstate ramp or two.

i want a giant screen for a bad ass laser show.
i don't want them to make bonnaroo more comfortable. if you want comfort, go on jam cruise. bonnaroo is for the real fans who don't mind sleeping on the ground in the tennessee heat
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**
A drive-in style movie screen would be awesome! I vote for that. I also like the cabin idea. Those accomodations at the Ireland festival look pretty amazing and yet simple to maintain throughout the year. Podpads should be brought to America.
Cool in the sun is a great selling point of a pod pad. I am never going to spring for an RV but I would love to one day get to sleep past sun up at Bonnaroo.

After barely in my first year and waking up every day at about 7am due to the sun and rising heat, I bought a screen-tent kind of thing and bought the full-side/two half-side option. I set it up over top of my tent with the solid wall to the East-South-East and bought one of those portable fans -- I slept like a log!!!!
