I like the new album. I don't love it. But it makes me fairly excited to see them live. The new material's going to add a kick to their live show.
**Edit**
Having listened to it a couple times, I can guarantee this album will play EXTREMELY well to the Bonnaroo base. Honestly, this show has the potential to be completely packed out...

That's how I feel . . . a lot of these songs will seem even better after seeing them performed.
Okay...the third time around, the sheer strength of the songwriting is coming really shining for me. Plus, they've unleashed the guitars this time around a bit more...

i don't know why people are so down on their first album. i thought it was quacking amazing. one of those cd's i can stick in and listen to all the way through.
this new album is the same for me. haven't paid too much attention to lyrics, yet though. i jammed it all the way back to austin, though
Just got it today, great CD. Every time I start to wonder what he'll do next, Jack always takes me by surprise. The rest of the band really contributes too, and he just explodes. So far I can't pick a favorite because they're all so good.
BTW, anyone else see the album sleeve? It cracked me up

i mean, the reason i didn't like the first one was that it sounded so damned generic and safe, kind of like benson's music and the greenhornes' music. i love jack's work with the white stripes, i think it's fantastic. and it always seemed to me like benson and the rest of them were dragging him down to their level, almost. which is why i don't have the second album yet.
