^^Agreed^^
MGMT, Racs & The Kills get me goin as well, but Sigur Ros is too important (I'm assuming even though I don't know what they are saying, but it sounds real important).
I haven't picked up much that's come out so far this year (that'll chance second half of the year when Alice Cooper, Todd Snider, Old Crow Medicine Show, and The Trailer Park Troubadours all release) but nothing so far has even come close to Healey.
Of course, ask me again in two weeks and that might change since my opinion of Evil Urges has changed from "What the hell, I hate this" to "This is kind of cool" to "Why is that dumb Highly Suspicious song stuck in my head!?"

Karma for having excellent taste! All great bands. I'd like to see The Kills play the farm one year. I think they could fit in quite nicely.
I'm starting to think this might be the best thing I've heard this year. Like you said, the EP was good -- definitely intriguing -- but over the course of the full album, you get a better feel of their ability to blossom. Anticipating what the future holds is probably as exciting as listening to the here and now with FF.

Yeah, I really think these guys have the ability to become quite the superstars of folk. If you haven't seen them, do it. They're one of the few bands that most times sound better than their album. Saw em open for Blitzen Trapper and they blew me away. Got chills and the whole nine at their transcendent harmonies. There are definitely great things in store for these guys.

I haven't been blown away by any albums this year thus far. I'd say the top runner is Vampire Weekend, and I think we can all agree that's kind of pathetic. Hoping the back half of '08 has some surprises.

Secured my ticket for their show here on the 22nd!

Bon Iver's album came out last year, it is really good, but doesn't do it for me past Flume and Skinny Love (it's kinda short and flat).
British Sea Power came out with a great album, the new REM is real good, Dr. Dog just came out with a stellar album and I suggest Tokyo Police Club's Elephant Shell.

Dude... Colour Revolt is from Jackson, MS... They were 2 grades above me in high school and currently attend my college the University of Mississippi! I am very good friends with every member of the band... completely amazing guys and their music rocks! Get ahold of some of their first albums when they were called Fletcher! You will love them!

my favorites of 2008 so far: "Fleet Foxes" -- Fleet Foxes "Vampire Weekend" -- Vampire Weekend "In the Future" -- Black Mountain "When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Sh!t Gold" -- Atmosphere "Modern Guilt" -- Beck "Feed the Animals" -- Girl Talk "Consolers of the Lonely" -- the Raconteurs "Two Men with the Blues" -- Willie Nelson & Wynton Marsalis "April" -- Sun Kil Moon the albums by MGMT and Black Kids are both catchy and fun to listen to, too.
2010: 3/12: The Bad Plus/Happy Apple/Buffalo Collision/The Bad Apple 6/10-13: Bonnaroo 6/19: Rock the Garden 7/30-31: Mid West Music Fest 8/21: Los Hombres Calientes 8/31: Marijuana Death Squads 9/11: The Book of Right On w/ City on the Make 9/23: Of Montreal w/ Janelle Monae 10/4: Broken Social Scene 11/23: Grinderman
In no order (as of now) but here are the records that caught my attention the most and hold it still:
NIN (Both releases The Slip and Ghosts... I know, neither are "album of the year contenders" but really not much from this year is...) Mars Volta (I'm a mark for the Volta... not their best, but still highly enjoyable to my ears.) Sigur Ros (IMO, better than ( ), not as good as Aegetis, about even with Takk... I like the new direction and think that in an album or so, they could really have something special with this formula.) Nick Cave (Per the usual, a solid 4 star album from Cave. No shock here, as everything he releases ends up on the best of lists) MGMT (Good, but far from great... again, this has been a relatively weak year.) Autechre (Haven't seen any mention of it, but seriously check this out... if you like this type of music, this new record won't disappoint.) Bon Iver (Surprising new discovery to me)
If I've got to put down a concrete choice right now, I'd say I'll go with "Ghosts." I know it's not terribly popular, but I love when Trent does post-rock type stuff, so I'm a sucker for it.1
Also, I need to give the new Portishead a few new spins... they played a song off the new one in Best Buy the other day, and sounded good... different, more industrial sounding, so to speak.
You know what I mean, sometimes you need to hear something out of context to be able to appreciate it.

in no order... The Cool Kids- "The Bake Sale" Fleet Foxes- "Fleet Foxes" NIN- "The Slip" Bon Iver- "For Emma" Lil Wayne- "The Carter 3" MMJ- "Evil Urges" Girl Talk- "Feed The Animals" Mars Volta- "Bedlam" Portishead- "Third" Ratatat -"lp3" Sun Kil Moon- "April" Vampire Weekend

I just picked up MMJ's Evil Urges, and loved it...I was wondering if there is another MMJ album I should pick up or is this their best one?
IMO...Vampire Weekend so far is the best album of the year...but I have an odd feeling that might be their only good album, anyone else think that?
Personally I think Evil Urges is MMJ's worst album, and it's not really even close. But if you're into Evil Urges I'd suggest getting Z next, it's somewhat similar stylistically to Evil Urges but still maintains the old rough-around-the-edges hard rocking feel of older MMJ. And if you're more into the softer acoustic side, get At Dawn (which you should get anyway, of course). The live album, Okonokos, is good too, but might be a bit much for a beginner to wrap their head around.

I always thought Caddyshack II was hilarous...untill I saw Caddyshack...would this be a good analogy?

^^^Yeah, 'Z' is closer to 'Evil Urges', stylistically, and so you'll probably like it. But that's also why I would NOT recommend it to you first. Go with 'At Dawn' first, because it's what made them big and it's the culmination of the sound and style they built themselves on. It's also a great record. Get to know the heart of the band first, then check out their other stuff.
