ooh goodnesssss. i am obsessed with everything about the story of christopher mccandless as of lately. first, i watched the movie and it was amazing. definitely up there in my top favorites. then, i read a whole lot about it on the internet. i decided to get the book and am in the process of reading it right now. ooh and the soundtrack...amazing. i downloaded it the second after i watched the movie!!
me too! i watched the movie earlier this month, and just got the book in the mail. everything about it is amazing. i love the actor playing chris/alex and the soundtrack is unbelievable! i wish that we would get to hear some of the music @ roo
I loved it. Instant classic. Im not sure how i feel about the main character though. Part of me sees him as a couragous free spirit and another part sees him as a selfish inconsiderate coward. He learned an important lesson. Its just sad he had to pay the ultimate price to do so.
yeah, i know what you mean about the courageous/inconsiderate thing. as for me, i don't really know what to think. i like to believe that he was just being adventurous and free spirited. i think that part of him is what really inspires me. he has recieved so much scrutiny as being the selfish inconsidereate coward. jon krakauer discusses both sides of it in the book.
I started a thread on this as soon as they announced the movie was coming out. (Latst year on the Other Stage)
It is one of my fave books of all time. It really captures the complexity of Alexander Supertramp/Chris McCandless. Great movie adaptation also. (but the book is way better.)
I'm really hope Eddie does some of the soundtrack.

same here. i was listening to it today with some friends and i was starting to think about if he'll do some of the songs. i really hope so, like i've probably already said.
i also had a discussion today with one of my teachers about the topic spiral brought up...about whether it was like a heroic story or an inconsiderate one.
anyways, i love both the movie and the book. the only thing i didn't really enjoy about the book was how krakauer talks about his own adventures and stuff...i know that it given background to mccandless's situation, but i felt like at points it got a little too off topic.
