This album is quite unbelievably good. I can't stop listening to it. There's definitely a higher production quality to this one than his previous efforts, but I don't think it takes anything away from the intimacy that his albums provide. Great songs from beginning to end. This will be in my running for album of the year, no doubt.
ohhhhh yea i'm glad you posted this, i was into him for a while and had completely forgotten about it until now. I will now pick up this new album you speak of! Karma to you for that!
Saw this at the Record store today. Gave it a sample listen, sounds good, what I heard at least. But then, I never was a big fan of this band. Since a few years have passed I may give them another chance.
cool, i just came here to post about this album. I agree its exceptionally nice. Glad i found it. There is a review about it in the last spin magazine i got. It got a really good review. I'd love to see these guys at roo.
This album is definitely my favorite I&W album, and in my top 3 for this year. The change in sound is definitely in a positive direction, in my opinion. I absolutely love all the arrangements on this album, and there are some really unique sounds throughout.
His last album, Our Endless Numbered Days, was a great album to listen to on a sunny day while you lie on your back in the grass staring at the clouds. I'd say that The Shepherd's Dog is the complete opposite. It's an album that you listen to all alone, locked in your bedroom with all the lights off and a single candle burning in the center of the room. A lot of the songs just have a certain mesmerizing quality to them that wasn't heard in previous Iron & Wine albums, with maybe the exception of a few songs on the Woman King EP. We will be seeing big things from Mr. Beam in the near future.

I've listened to it a few times and I just dont like it...... I'm not sure why but it just doesn't click with me. I'm the same with Wilco - I am sure I should like them given my other music tastes but I just don't

"Resurrection Fern" came up in my iTunes shuffle the other day, and I stopped what I was doing to focus on the song. I like it in the flow of the album, but it really stood out for me just now.
