Andrew Bird- Armchair Apocrypha The National- Boxer Rihanna- Good Girl Gone Bad Pantha du Prince- This Bliss Panda Bear- Person Pitch Young Buck- Buck the World Busdriver- Roadkill Overcoat Of Montreal- Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? Chromeo- Fancy Footwork Wilco- Sky Blue Sky
The top two are pretty firmly entrenched and I feel like I'll be listening to them for years to come. I hated the Wilco when I first heard it but I'll admit it has really grown on me. The Rihanna may slip back down but is my favorite du jour. The first five tracks are pop music at its best. Things I like a lot but haven't fully digested: the Besnard Lakes, Blitzen Trapper, T.I., R. Kelly. I've listened to dozens of records from this year that I consider pretty decent, though. It's a good year.

well, this post seems like its trying to show how much the pumpkins album sucks.
Perhaps your example is made best for a post on a previous page of this thread . . . . . . .
. . . . . . you know what irks me, Honorable mentions. Ok, on a list of 5, yes, have an honorable mention, but when your going to give us 20 or so, on a limitless list, dont give me an honorable mention . . . . make it a 22 item list.

actually i have only heard it 3 times now, and i like it ... cr****
Cold War Kids - Robbers and Cowards (2006 but it didn't start listening to them until 2007 - this is probably my number 1 album, to think i almost rejected them on a first listen!)
The White Stripes - Icky Thump (really enjoying this so far) The Shins - Wincing the Night Away (i can thank my sister for that one, i had always known about the shins but never gave them a listen) Bjork - Volta (liking this so far too)
can't think of any others from this year, A LOT from 2006 though
Ok, now that I've had an extended Inforoo break and the year is officially over half-over, I can now make my best albums of the first half of the year:
5. The Tuss - Rushup Edge : Niiice electronic album. Haven't been quite as impressed with a recent electronic album in a while. Give it a spin, if you like Richard James (and I'm not gonna speculate, and potentially make myself sound like an idiot...wink wink) you should really check it out.
4. Explosions In The Sky - All of A Sudden I Miss Everyone: I don't think I need to explain this one on this board...
3. Omar Rodriguez Lopez - Se Dice Bisonte, No Buffalo: Fantastic album. Definately one of the best overal releases Omar's come out with, including TMV and ATDI. An incredibly well rounded and diverse album well worth your time, even if you dislike his other work with certain bands.
2. Dungen- Tio Bitar : here's to a tour or a return to Bonnaroo in support of this great follow up to the classic Ta Det Lungt.
1. Nine Inch Nails - Year Zero : Many months have passed, and it's still in constant rotation in my realm. Tell ya something?
Against Me! - New Wave !!! – Myth Takes Ryan Adams – Easy Tiger LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver Crippled Black Phoenix - A Love of Shared Disasters Queens of the Stone Age - Era Vulgaris The Good, The Bad, and The Queen - Self Titled
Down III, is going to turn the metal world on its side when its released this fall
I liked the first one a lot, didn't care for the second one at all.
Not sure why.
Nola, I admit is better than II, but II is a good album in my opinion anyway, saw at the house of blues in nola a while back.... heck i even saw crowbar at the howlin wolf too
Well I already told you the best album this year, but I didn't give you my whole list.
Rush-Snakes and Arrows Porcupine Tree-Fear of A Blank Planet Omar Rodriguez-Lopez Group feat. Damo Suzuki-Please Heat This Eventually Omar Rodriguez-Lopez Group-Se Dice Bisonte, No Bufalo John Butler Trio-Grand National The Greyboy All-Stars-What Happened To Television?

As a youngin, I can tell you that those people are doing that to act cool. Sometimes I think people are making shit up sometimes because the bands they say are so obscure that I don't know who they are.

i dont think i know that many of the ones you listed - maybe about half to a little less, but some of those albums are pretty good.
i get rolling stone and spin (thanks 'roo!)... of the two, spin goes for the "too hip for the room" crowd imo with it's music reviews. ive listened to some of their 4 star bands that ive never heard of and just don't get them.
it's the pitchfork media types and the "oh no my indie band actually has more people listening than me and thier girlfriends" that put those lists together anyway...

I agree about the spin comment. I listened to all of the bands they mentioned in their latest issue, which was a lot, and only downloaded 2 new bands stuff. Most of it was awful.

I actually went and downloaded and listened to every album on that list. With the exception of Bloc Party and LCD Soundsystem, they are all (IMHO) better than Zeitgeist.

ill agree with this, and ill re-type my statement from above, which also ties in with this

Lot's of great music this year. As far as the discussion upthread goes, noone can stay "on top of new music", there's just way more out there than anyone can listen too. Unless you restrict yourself to one or two genres, you'll always be missing a ton of music. Isn't the point of lists to check out the stuff you aren't familiar with?
