Note: I am not an audio expert. I'm sure someone could pick apart the quality of the audio and my explanation of it in a heartbeat. I only explain this at my best understanding.
Initially, I recorded the set with my Cowon iAudio mp3 voice recorder at 128kbps. It turned out alright, except that the bass was a little too boomy (as expected) and the crowd was overpowering at times (especially when these people pushed their way next to me and were adamant about screaming directly into my recording device). The high ends were nice though, and there was a nice, natural reverb that sometimes lacks from soundboard recordings.
But I come home to find that there is a video of her whole set recorded from a webcast with delicious soundboard audio--albeit not at the best of quality. Except that audio, I thought, didn't bring out the crowd enough and was missing some low end and some reverb.
So I figured that, since both audio sources were lacking, I would mix them together. In the process, I equalized and compressed the audio as needed. I used envelopes to quiet the noisy crowd in between songs.
However, the program I used (Adobe Audition) uncompressed the audio files back to .wav and it was saved back to an .mp3. I know this is a no-no, but I figure that it doesn't matter much since the audio files I am working with aren't the best of quality to begin with, and I figured that the mixing I was doing would hopefully mask some of the potential quality loss.
Another problem was during Carbon Monoxide and Fidelity. The soundboard audio file, for some reason, would skip horribly (cutting each song in half) whenever I would import it into Audition. So I had to go to an even worse soundboard audio source--a downloaded YouTube clip. So there may be a noticeable, but bearable difference in quality in those two songs compared to the others.
Anyway, I figure this will suit everybody fine until someone comes along with an uber-mic or non-lossy soundboard recording. It was an awesome show, and Regina was utterly beautiful that day.
I am so happy that someone got this. It was my first Roo and I was a bit swept away. Hated to make a choice between two different shows I wanted to see. So much karma to you for "having my back" on this one. Much appreciated!!!
