Question-- Does Bonnaroo hire the police to enforce inside of the Roo grounds or do they have a private security service? I'm sure the laws of search and seizure are different for the two.

not sure if ROO hires them or not, but the police are there.

Regardless of what people say on this board, you can get searched hard by the DTF on entry. They will tell you to not look like a wook and not be messed up or what ever. I'm telling you that me and my crew are all over thirty clean cut and sober and got searched in 09and 10. It's random and doesn't make a difference what you drive or look like. Trust me. I have no reason to lie or mislead.
Don't have it in your sleaping bag, backpack, glove, or any other place they would find it if you had a stop where they would be looking for you know what. I know it's probably 1 in a 200 or more people searched but trust me it is random.
We didn't have anything so it was just intrusive and uncomfortable. They trash your stuff and you have to put it back. It is definately one of the reasons we haven't been back.
Good info so far. Thanks guys. Any of you have any experience with police/security seeing people partaking of corn at the campsite and what their attitude is about it?

We've eaten corn at our campsite with impunity for the past 5 years. Nobody cares. Even last year when we were directly across the street from family camping. Its a music festival. It's par for the course. Do NOT however think that means you can just walk down the street passing a corn cob around. Some discretion is necessary. Think of it like lawn seating at a concert, you can do it out in the open, just not blatantly in front of cops or security.

This. One year we were on the end of the row (and right along the dirt road by the side Centeroo entrance) and one of our group kept bugging out because of the proximity to the Roo traffic (both patron and employee). We sat around our site corn-cobbing away and not once did they stop. One time one of the people on horseback even leaned to his partner and said "man, that's some strong smelling corn".
So, there's really nothing to worry about. Don't fight. Don't steal. And don't take too much of any veggies. The cops/security just don't want a riot to break out so they can go home just like everyone else. Honestly, some even enjoy the whole Roo scene, because it is genuinely one of the most absurd and unintentionally hilarious sights you'll ever lay eyes on.

Although Ive only been searched one time at a festival, The past couple festivals and concerts that i have been to in south florida, there have been an increase in undercover officers as well. Does this happen at Roo?
Myself and some friends have been known to openly partake in good times, but not obnoxiously, and i think thats why we have never been stopped or caught, but one year, when we were still under the age for alcohol, my older brother bought 2 beers, passed one to my friend who was 18 at the time, just so he could hold it while my brother tied his shoe, and almost instantly two undercover cops came over and made a huge scene out of it all, up to an including my friend getting arrested for the nite.
if this is the case, what i know is this, if you are worried about someone, dont do anything stupid. the undercover cops that i have seen roll in packs of 2, always clean shaven, wearing hats and sunglasses, and one if not both of them have bookbags on, which is where they confiscate whatever it is that you are caught doing. in my case, they took a sample of the beer that my friend was holding and also had whatever officers need in their bookbag. its all stupid to me, in the sense that, once you are inside having a good time, not causing problems, not starting a fight, not stealing or breaking anything, i just never understood why they would go out of their way to catch you. as of recently, they have stopped doing it because the backlash of the crowd on the two undercover cops has not been pretty.
this may be my first time at Roo, but its not my first time at the circus! In all honesty, as paranoid as we can all get, just dont do anything stupid, dont look suspicious, and remain calm. Cooler heads will prevail. Just think about what it is you want to do, hide, or bring... and be smart and courteous to others while doing it. In the end, we are all here to have fun, so lets show them that!

Our neighbors in Camp Roger Podacter had their corn taken away by the golf cart guys. I believe they got a citation. A couple of them were wandering through our camps which I had never seen in previous years. Is this something new or has that always been going on and we just never saw it?

So you and your crew got searched in 09 and 10, eh? But I thought you weren't going/didn't go in 2010:
Your are correct sir. I was bribed last year. That's why I didn't go with my girl. Other than the illegal searches I have had a great time. I won't ever go again.
I know most people will still have a good time and thats awesome. We were going to have a bachelor party there this year. My friends wedding is the next week just because they knew I liked going to bonnaroo. With this lineup and the cost of the whole thing we are going to thow one hell of bachelor party instead.
So were you searched in 2010, or did you not go (as you claimed last year) and instead went to "one hell of bachelor party instead?"
We didn't have anything so it was just intrusive and uncomfortable. They trash your stuff and you have to put it back. It is definately one of the reasons we haven't been back.
...haven't been back since, 2010? So basically, you're taking a year off? Anyway, it sounds like your decision not to go this year has to do with My Morning Jacket not getting the time slot you wanted:
So did it make it or brake it? I'm not going to let 2 hours less MMJ than I expected ruin my weekend or change my plans. I can see the shimmer of a silver lining and it is telling me that getting to see some crazy LN tent Leno I would have missed which will be awesome.
When it becomes official I'll make that decision. I wouldn't buy a ticket till a couple of weeks before anyway.
So you've been searched in 2008, 2009, and 2010, except that you weren't going to go in 2010, and claimed after the festival that you hadn't been there. Also, the "illegal" searches are why you didn't go in 2010 (except you did?) and why you aren't going in 2011 (unless they had given MMJ a 4 hour late night slot)?
What percentage of your 64 posts do you say are you complaining about Bonnaroo, mainly the searches? I'd have to say at least 95%, easy.

it's always been that way, you just haven't noticed it.

And clearly you aren't a rapist (I hope) but the way you pop into any thread where a woman happens to be lamenting her lack of ride to Bonnaroo and tell them to come hop on your bus sounds extremely rapey.

Juggs, you must be really bored or just hate that guy.
I was really bored. I'm basically only in the office this afternoon because I'm waiting on something to be filed by someone else so I've got nothing to do, but I have to wait here until a certain time anyway.
Also, I recall this guy pissing and moaning last year, and I can't stand when people come on here for no reason other than to complain about some bullshiz, especially when they're making poorly formed arguments and/or making shiz up. Like, if you want to complain about searches, fine, but don't exaggerate or lie about it. Not to mention, the whole "bonnaroo is a faceless corporate machine that just cares about greed they suck ill never go...unless the lineup is good" attitude is completely ridiculous and so hypocritical that it just gets me going.

last year some "cops" or at least people dressed as them came into our camp as one of our friends was eating some enriched corn concentrate and they confiscated it, the corn holder, and a lighter. and that was it. im prety sure it was just people dressed as police though
man all this cop talk gets me really down. i remember the good ole days when they were basically non-existent. not even mounties. all we had was hired security workers walking around enforcing the rules and leaving all the innocent people alone. sure the wooks were out a plenty back then but the festival was basically a free for all as far as NO NO WORD!!! and partying. cops walking around? taking peoples stuff in the campgrounds? please tell me it's not true
