Just took my Dad to the Twins of Evil Tour (Marilyn Manson/Rob Zombie) for his birthday. I'm not as into heavier rock as he is, but I fucking loved Rob Zombie's set. Lots of nostalgic tunes and an absolutely great stage show and light rig. Won me over as a fan completely.

I went to the Seasick Steve show at Third Man Records last night. They recorded it (as normal) to be released. He had Alison Mosshart, Luther Dickinson, and Elizabeth Cook as guest sit ins. Luther played about half the set with Steve. One of the better shows I have been to this year.
I saw Dan Deacon the other night for the fifth time. He opened the show with a huge monologue about taking shits at venues and how this place had one of the worst bathrooms he'd ever gone in on the road. It made me laugh so much.
The energy at the show was incredible and he definitely fits in better at a smaller space than a festival. The two times I've seen him in small rooms were both incrementally better than what I've seen from him at fests. I'm up for catching him anytime he comes around as he is such a great performer and always makes the crowd a big part of the show. Plus there was a guy there as Hannibal Lecter who was strapped into a hand cart. It was fun watching him get wheeled around as peopled lost their minds dancing.
Rubblebucket was so quacking good. I haven't felt so ecstatic at concert since Radiohead.
I got to meet the band before and after the show(I got to be a robot!!!!!!). They're all really sweet, down to eath people and they said they'd love to come to Roo again, but probably not till '14, they're taking a break next year.

I just got back from Father John Misty. Everything off Fear Fun sounded great. Josh Tillman was in good form initially, with some of his banter dwelling on the World Series, but most of it on the futility of human existence. Things took a turn for the worse when numerous people in the crowd tried making their own jokes/comments. Josh was visibly irritated, but shook it off and continued to carry on with the show. Everything else went smoothly until the encore, when some jackass demanded, loudly and repeatedly, to know who Josh was voting for next week. I have never been more embarrassed as a member of a collective group before. The hatred in Josh's eyes was palpable as he told the guy that he was voting for an abortion. He left the stage with a quiet 'thank you' and not a second glance back.
Death Grips Atlanta. The kids came out to get wild. There was moshing everywhere on a Sunday night. One dude dropped his glasses in the pit, found them, looked up, then handed them to me (who was the first person he saw when he looked up), and asked me to hold on to them for him so they don't get broken. I obliged and hung back on the perimeter of the chaos to ensure safe keeping. It is mind blowing that Zach Hill keeps the beat like he does with live drums. The man pretty much never stopped for the entirety of the show. I wasn't able to make out the vocals real well, but MC Ride is an amazing presence. Good stuff.

Hey everyone, I need opinions! Both Black Moth Super Rainbow and Japandroids/DIIV are coming to Philly in about a month, one on Friday and one on Saturday. I may be able to swing both, but has anyone seen any of them live? How are they? Any input would be appreciated!

Both are great. I can say that BMSR is from Pittsburgh and the chance of them playing Philly again is probably greater if you have to choose between the 2.

Dylan's voice was great tonight. It was nice to see him get up and dance around and him playing a piano instead of a keyboard is a major upgrade. He played nothing newer than one song off Modern Times. I lived hearing the classics and the new arrangements. Love Sick was a major highlight as well as Ballad Of A Thin Man with the voice echoes.
I saw Umphrey's in Northampton MA on Thursday night. Was second row and nearly center, behind the pit. But so many people rushed the pit, I wound up having a panic attack. Then lost attention and got tired. Then left a half hour early. The music wasn't bad, some solid covers, but just wasn't feeling it.
Gary Clark Jr. in Boston last night = killed it.
Death Grips in two weeks... *drools* So going to get into a mosh pit.
I got power back just in time to tell you guys how unbelievable Gary Clark Jr was Monday night in NYC. He shredded that guitar for about two hours and just blew me away in such a small venue. So close. So perfect.
Also saw Heartless Bastards Saturday the 27th and they rocked Irving Plaza. I was so impressed with how tight they were. Opener, the Futurebirds were quite awesome as well.
I got to catch Black Moth Super Rainbow last night. They played a tiny little bar. First time seeing them live and I didn't know what to expect but it was really sick. Got to meet them all afterwards too, very nice people.

Did any Nashville folks get to see Loser's Lounge make their Nashville debut last night at 3rd and Lindsley? What a special show. They did a tribute to David Bowie with everyone from Sam Bush to Jonell Mosser to Roy Wooten taking on a song. It was a blast.
Got to see Shannon Wright and Young Widow's last night. She killed it. I had never even heard of her prior, just went on a whim. It was loud and abrasive and everything a good rock show should be.
Saw the Blues Brothers this past Friday night at the Sea & Sand Festival in Gulfport. Pretty pathetic turnout, probably like 250 people max, when they were obviously expecting like 12-15K.
Decided last minute to drive down to Philly Saturday to see Gary Clark Jr again. It was no doubt a great show but damn did it fail in comparison to the NYC show I was at last Monday.
