Whoever shot that got an awesome video of Dulli roaming the crowd and serenading the ladies. Fantastic showmanship at both Afghan Whigs sets I caught over the weekend.

Divine Fits covered Frank Ocean at the 930 Club last night. It was a solid set, although I doubt they'll ever beat their show at Schubas, in my mind at least.
They have a stage set up with a large white sheet down the back of the stage. They're all wearing black and are somewhat front lit and I guess it was supposed to project large silhouettes onto the board, but it didn't quite work out and looked a little strange.

Horn - you've got to tell me when you're going there. I pay money to 930 like it's a vacation home.
Will do, Tom. I've been on a bit of a hot streak so I'm probably going to cool it for a while after Major Lazer on Thursday (which doesn't seem like a show I'll be seeing you at)
Worst crowd ever at the Afghan Whigs show last night. I almost got into a fight because of how tall I am (And I'm only 6'1"). Bunch of old derps that don't go to shows. caddyshaq and I were the only people in their wearing tour shirts (I was the only person there wearing shorts...haha). Everyone else was dressed to kill or whatever. One fedora per crew. Afghan Whigs were great, but the crowd kind of just ruined the experience. oh well. Gov't Mule tonight.

Gosh. Don't you know everyone over 5'10" has to stand behind the soundboard? The nerve of some people.
To relate, I almost got into a fight at a Dropkick Murphys show because this guy's girlfriend felt she could be in the 3rd row and not be touched by anyone in the crowd.

Some people like to dress up to go out, myself included. The idea that you guys are somehow better cause you had tshirts on is such a weird idea to me. Who cares how people are dressed? Fedoras, on the other hand, are pretty douchey, i'll agree to that.

I think he is referring to what other have described as the Coachella Syndrome where the person seeing the show doesn't give a crap about seeing the show. They just want to be seen at the show.
I didn't mean to insinuate that there's anything wrong with dressing up nice for shows, but these people were just plain rude and it was obvious that most of them haven't been to a show in years. Talking/yelling the whole time during the show to each other. Spilling their drinks on people. Smoking the shittiest swag that I have smelled in over a decade. I was just making the tour shirt comment because we really felt out of place when we walked into Tipitina's.

That reminds me of when a friend and I went to see Converge back in the day. I had on a white t-shirt and khaki shorts. He was dressed similar. Everyone else was in black gothy type stuff. We definitely felt out of place.

I like Major Lazer, but you're right, I won't be at that one. Planning on back to back there in December with Gaslight Anthem and X and then in January with Purity Ring and Jessie Ware.
I was always under the impression that it was obnoxious kids between like 14-19 that constantly talk through shows (ie the Lolla democgraphic) but David Byrne and St. Vincent last month made me realize there are plenty of people in their 30's, 40's and 50's who will just stand their motionless, drinking beer and talking to their friends. I hate people.
This is about a week and a half ago now, but I saw Beach House and they were awesome. I expected to enjoy it, but they definitely exceeded expectations. Victoria even had a surprisingly solid stage presence. I know the music doesn't necessarily fit, but I think they'd be an interesting late night candidate for Roo; I was enthralled by their light show the entire night.
Swans last night @ Terminal West in Atlanta. Everything I've heard about the band's live show was true. So loud (maybe the loudest show I've ever been to), confrontational, uneasy, and glorious. What I didnt expect was how much No Wave is still in their blood and how closely related to Black Metal they get. Bradford Cox from Deerhunter was @the soundboard all night (hopefully taking notes). Please go see this band if they come to your town, if no other reason than to get out of your comfort zone and witness this amount of power. No matter how much you prepare, you're not ready.

Have you read Gira's The Consumer? It'll make you feel very similar to how you're describing the live show.

They were one of my favorite shows I've seen all year. The spotlights/slatted fan combo set the atmosphere perfectly for how simplistic of a set up it is.
Gov't Mule @ The Alabama Theater in Birmingham Saturday night kicked azz! The theater was very nice, but the crowd was incredibly tame for a mule show, especially in Alabama on a game day.

I think that is why the crowd was tame (and very light). The balcony was very sparse. But the show was great. Simple Man opener was fantastic.
Man, I went to go get another drink and have a smoke towards the middle-end of the first set and witnessed the aftermath of someone getting too rowdy. Saw two security guards drag an drunk as fuuuuuu old duder (pants falling down and bare ass dragging on the concrete and all) and throw him out in the street.
Then during the set break, I went out for another smoke and to walk to the car to pour a stone IPA...start walking back to the venue and there's a cop car pulled up front with his lights on. Apparently some hippie got arrested for something, but I'm not sure what.
That was my first Gov't Mule show. I had fun and I really liked that venue. It's like Mobile's Saenger theater times the Fox theater in Atlanta, but with nicer seats.
I saw First Aid Kit a few nights ago. I'd caught them earlier this summer at Lolla and really liked it. This show they were headlining and it had a lot of boring stretches. They definitely fit in better at a festival where they have a shorter slot and don't have to tap some of their more mundane songs. If I can see them in a forty five minute festival set I totally will, otherwise I'm fine with not catching them again for a long time.

Saw three shows in five days:
Milo Green: AMAZING. do not miss them if you have the chance, they are THAT GOOD live.
Die Antwoord: not my thing, but I was amused. They put on a great show. (her voice freaks me out)
Mono: One of the best shows I've ever seen. I felt bad that there were only about 30 people there. These guys are sooooo great. I'd gladly pay x3 as much to see their show.
