I really wish Grizzly Bear would have played closer than 6 hours away from me. Just couldn't do it on a monday. I saw Quintron and Miss Pussycat, Gary Wrong Group, and Super Nice Bros last night...great show. I'll be seeing Double Negative for free in a couple of hours.
This was at the end of July, but I saw Helmet and Toadies at Hell (the sub-basement of the Masquerade in Atlanta). Helmet was meh from what I had expected, but The Toadies absolutely killed it and played 9 songs off Rubberneck which IMO is their best record. My 14yr old cousin had never been to a real rock show and we took him for his birthday. A true eye opener lol.
i was there. i thought helmet owned. i had listened to both of these bands since 14 yrs old and never saw them live.
I went to see Bon Iver during his four-night stint at Radio City Music Hall on Friday. The show was absolutely phenomenal/breathtaking/all the lovely things you can think of. Bowery Presents is streaming the Friday show (the one I went to) for the next 24 hours or so. I highly recommend watching/listening to it.

Last Thursday I saw a great show co-headlined by Beach House and The Walkmen. Both bands sounded very good, and Beach House, in particular, translated far better for me than I suspected they might.
But coolest thing about the show wasn't the music: it was a totally unexpected Bonnareunion!
Background: I met a cool dude from San Antonio last year prior to MMJ, and we hung out for a couple hours talking about festivals and whatnot. I'm a South Texas native, so it was cool and serendipitous to meet someone from the region, but at the time I was living in Raleigh, NC, so I didn't really think anything more of it.
Anyway, as I'm walking into the show last Thursday I see a familiar face just in front of me. Haha yep, same guy! Anyway, it reminded me how wonderfully small the world is.
My new buddy apparently lurks these boards a little bit, so maybe he's even reading this now...
Oh, and last night saw Amon Tobin's ISAM 2.0. Man, words really don't do it justice. It was truly amazing and totally reset the bar for me in terms of what live EDM can do. (And yes, I was sober. It would probably be even more awe-inspiring in other conditions.)

I'm in the minority on this board as NOT being much of a fan of M83. I could appreciate their music to an extent, but after 3 tracks or so on an album I always found myself bored.
So when my friend invited me to see M83 last night I wasn't the most enthusiastic. But I decided to go in with an open mind and see what all the fuss was about.
Soooo glad I went. The played with an intense energy I never would have expected based on what I heard of their studio recordings. They played hard and faster (and better and stonger) than I had ever expected. It was a blast, and a truly amazing performance.

I thought both sets were absolutely insane!... but Toadies starting off with I Come From the Water was probably the best opening song I've seen in a long time. Awesome show!
I saw the Smashing Pumpkins last night with UME and Ringo Deathstarr. Both openers were awesome and had so much energy, I would see both of them again in a heartbeat. And as for the Pumpkins... They played for TWO AND A HALF HOURS, and I was beautiful. Their new album sounds so good live, and the classics sound phenomenal. I highly recommend seeing them
I was also at Animal Collective in NOLA. Sold out show, GREAT time! face=melted
Michachu and the Shapes were cool. Just another hipster band imo, but with the crowd of kids you get at AC shows, it was cool and had everyone moving. Wouldn't buy their cd but I'm glad I saw them.

I was planning on seeing Michachu's free show this afternoon, but couldn't peel myself away from the Falcons game. I absolutely love their album Jewellery. I'm kinda bummed I missed it.

What does this even mean?
What do you need explained? They were your average indie hipster band, opening for AC, which was full of hipster and tripster kids. Everyone was enjoying the band, and they played well, but it was nothing remarkable.
Phrases like "just another hipster band" and "your average indie hipster band" say absolutely nothing about the music. You can find "hipsters" at pretty much any concert.
Caught the Mike Dillon Band and Marco Benevento at the Rex in Pittsburgh. Marco was amazing..jammed the hell out of that place. But the Mike Dillon band absolutely killed it. I love when an opener is a pleasant surprise.

always a treat to catch mike dillon, in any form. i especially enjoy it more when skerik is added to the mix!!!
saw amon tobin on tuesday...insane show, audio-wise and visually
I'm sorry it doesn't make sense to you R, but a statement like that makes perfect sense to people I know and people I know that run venues. There are a million bands out there, and not all of them are amazing to everyone. There are generic metal bands, generic punk, jamblands etc.
Mike Dillon is the f'n man!!! Saw him in January with like 7 people....f'n great times.
First time seeing Animal Collective last night. Mind blown...very fun show. Strongly advise you folks in ATL to do that tonight.
How was Micachu And The Shapes? I can see that going either really great or like a f*cking trainwreck.
I completely missed all of their set. I was more concerned with drinking a good beer with a couple friends before the show at another bar down the road. Bear Republic Hop Rod Rye. We can't get that shit in Mobile. So good once it hits your lips.

I cannot stand it when people say things like that. It brings no value to a discussion about music and highlights how closed minded the person saying it is because the artists probably dress differently than them.
In the past two weeks I have been fortunate enough to see Peter Gabriel, The Dirty Three, and David Byrne/St. Vincent.
Peter Gabriel- Great show. Not being a huge Gabriel aficionado, I was happy to enjoy some songs I was not familiar with. The usual crowd pleasers were just that. All in all, it was pretty great to see a legend live.
The Dirty Three- Ok, if you have not heard of these guys, and I had not, GO SEE THEM PLAY if they are anywhere near you. Simply one of the best shows I have seen in DC. I have been to quite a few shows over the last year and a half, some great ones, this was in my top 3 easy.
David Byrne/St. Vincent- Only listened to two of the new songs before I went to this show last night. I was blown away. Annie really has a great voice. I think this collaboration with Byrne is a great thing for her. He spend a lot of time off to the side, almost looking like a proud father, as she played and sang. His voice is as strong as ever, enjoyed every second of the show. Plus I got my favorite Talking Heads song Naive Melody (This must be the place).
Note: Annie Clark is smoking hot. I will post photographic evidence in the appropriate thread. :-)

Punk and metal are genres. They describe a certain style and sound. "hipster"and "indie" are not genres and do not describe any sort of sound or style. At best they describe an aesthetic. This is why calling a band a "generic hipster band" is pretty meaningless.

When people refer to music as "indie", you should know that they mean indie rock or pop though and that is more specific that just saying alternative rock. I don't get irritated when people call so and so "metal" or "punk", when I'm well aware that it's really "doom metal" or "psychobilly," respectively. I understand that not everyone is attuned to all of those subgenres as us metal durds are though. But in reality, calling a band just "metal" or "punk" is just as meaningless as calling a band indie [rock]. And, as of recently, referring to a band as "black metal" is f'n meaningless too (go FOAD Liturgy).

Did you catch Magik Markers? I seriously contemplated leaving ATP a day early to catch this show. I heart Elisa Ambrogio that much.
