I got home at 3:30am and had to wake up at 6am. Work is going to suck today. No regrets though. The Sword, Red Fang, and Honky was one of the best shows that I have ever seen. It was at the Parish in nola which is prolly about 400 capacity. I met Jeff Pinkus and his brother...those fuggin' guys. No Butthole Surfers tour anytime soon. The Sword played 3 new songs, so I guess they'll be putting out an album later this year.
I'm excited for a "show"(I guess if you want to call it that) at Conneaut Lake Park, which I'm sure none of you have ever heard of because it's a 100 year old amusement park out in BFE PA, but I'm going to see Rusted Root on the 22nd. I've seen them twice, and grew up with hearing them.

Damn, that would have been a great show. I love the Sword and Red Fang.
I really would love a new The Sword album, they killed it at Roo last year!
It probably had to do with the venue, their fancy new equipment, and them actually headlining this little tour, but they sounded even better and got way more into it last night than when I saw them open for Kyuss Lives back in September. It was like nonstop shredding for an hour and 20 minutes. face melted...
Red Fang's set was about 45 minutes...it was beautiful. [wipes tear away] That was the first time Red Fang ever played nola. I had to drive to ATL to see them the first time. I think they'll be coming back to nola quite frequently after the love we gave them.

Dave Chappelle did an improv set at the House of Blues basically working with whatever the crowd was shouting at him. The show was an hour and 45 minutes and was hilarious. It ranks up against seeing George Carlin.
He did the same type of show in Austin and the crowd was all hecklers and sounded like it sucked badly.
I posted the audio from the show in the Dave Chappelle thread I created.

Saw Explosions in the Sky last night, for the first time other than a good 10-15 min at lollapalooza. I was skeptical of the band It's not something I can get into listening to at home, but I vaguely remember thinking what I saw at Lolla was really good. I was not dissapointed. They played to a small venue, completely sold out, and blew the roof off the place. These guys are masters of their craft. The slow build makes the peak that much more huge and orgasmic.

Last night my friend heard about a free show at Terrapin Crossroads (Phil Lesh's club). Other than Jay Geils (J. Geils Band) and Phil (who sat in for a few songs) it was mostly people I'd never heard of. But they built up to a 9-piece band that played mostly blues and R&B and were smoking hot. 3 guitars, sax, backup singers, the whole works. They played a couple of songs from the Dead repertoire (Going Down the Road Feeling Bad and Turn On Your Lovelight), but mostly blues and R&B standards. Apparently they're getting ready for some paid gigs and wanted to try their stuff in front of an audience. Geils was tearing up the guitar and Phil was dropping bombs and the rest of the band fell right in line. These free shows help make up for the exorbitant prices they charge for some events (like $150 for GA to some Furthur shows next week).

Sorry. I'm crawling outta my skin waiting for Friday.
F*cking SERIOUSLY one of my top 5 shows ever. They played a little over 2 hours and at least 30 songs. 600 person capacity club and EVERYONE was singing.

Lost In The Trees killed it in an acoustic, unplugged closer, down on the floor with the crowd, at The Bottletree Cafe, Birmingham, on Tuesday night. Best set of the night.

i saw them last night. great show.
Do either of you guys remember how long the opener played? I'm seeing them Tuesday and trying to figure out logistics and when to get there and all that jazz.

Explosions was just as incredible as I imagined it would be.
I had main floor second row tickets RIGHT by the stacks. By the far the loudest show I've been too but so worth it. During "The Only Moment We Were Alone" when the guy pounds his strings with his hand (not really sure how else to describe it) at the beginning of the song, it felt like what I imagine a bomb going off nearby would feel like, and that's really not an exaggeration. Two people actually left our row after the song, but I assume they found other seats. Our entire section was looking around like the venue was collapsing before we even realized what happened.
It's also the only seated venue show I've ever been too where there was a roaring standing ovation from the crowd a third of the way into the set. Just a beautiful night.
friday: George Porter Jr (2 sets @ AL music box) saturday: Anthrax > As I Lay Dying > Motorhead > Slayer > Slipknot (completely faced in the pit at @ Lakewood) sunday: OFF! > Refused (@masquerade)
