Say Old Crow Medicine Show on Monday night at the Rialto. They put on a fun show, even though David Rawlings wasn't with them on this tour. Had a new guy from Arizona who played the bones (and fiddle, guitar and banjo). He looked really nervous for most of the show, but when he loosened up he started doing the most hilarious boot-scootin' dance that had me and my friends cheering everytime he did it. The crowd was an odd mix, a bunch of college students and young jocks crowded up front dancing badly, jumping on stage and shouting "cocaine!" through the entire set (and at the merch table afterwords!?!), and white-haired bluegrass fans filling the seats in the back of the theater. Overall, a good show for a Monday night.
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it
I saw Umphrey's McGee last night. It was great. Those guys have brought it to a new level. All their shows, lately, have been ON FIRE! It was a small crowd (a few hundred) but it was a Thursday...I can't really remember everything they played but I know there was a "Glory" in there somewhere and they encored with "Layla"... A few hundred hippies all screaming along was awesome ;D
1st set
... it looks like that chick is trying to tune Brandon's axe... ha
OOOooo pretty lights...
we switched sides for the second set...
... and I went up on the balcony for a few...
me and The Chaz...
just me ...
We were by no means sober. The lights were very nice. It all sounded fabulous... my only complaint is that I went without a blinky to spin and I really wanted one ... while waiting for the encore a random dude came up to me and tapped me on the shoulder, I turned around and he handed me a blue glowie on a string ;D
Going to see these guys tonight at The Exit In. Formerly known as bang bang bang. They now call themselves American Bang. Don't ask They have been opening for The Donnas. Should be fun.
I just got back from the Galactic show a few min ago. I wasn't planning on going, but my boss gave me today off, so I said why the hell not. Lifesavas and RJD2 opened up for them. Lifesavas wasn't bad for being 2 MC's and a guy on the table. RJD2 really didn't do much for me though. I mean it cool and all that he is spinning on 4 tables, but it wasn't that exciting to watch and it just sounded ok.
As far Galactic go, the show was great. They had Mr.Lif, Charlie2na and Boots Riley come on stage through out the night as well the lifesavas. Each rapper added something different to the show and it never seemed boring. There was even 3 times throughout the show where Galactic would just jam out on their own, which is the main reason why I went. Also, they played 2 J5 songs, which was awsome in my book since I never got a chance to see them before. Overall, I am glad I decided to check the show out.
Saw American Bang Last night at Exit In. They burned the place down they were so hot. A group called Leslie opened for them and the guitar player was awesome. The Dead Confederates played next. They are from Atlanta. Could not really get into them. Sort of a Emo meets Grunge thing going on. But now I am deaf and hung over, so aspirin here I come.........
I caught the current version of Broken Social Scene on Sat. night. It was my first time seeing any incarnation of this band that I've been longing to see for a few years now. They performed alot of Kevin Drew's Spirit If, but did like 5 or 6 BSS favorites, and even covered a Pavement song. They didn't disappoint, at all. Such a great show. They are without a doubt on my list of bands that I have to see each time they come around. The wall of sound they create in their "jams" is quite breathtaking. I can't see how they haven't played Roo yet, they are so freaking perfect for the farm.

Saw The Police in Charlotte, 7th row center! One of the best shows of my life, they were on FIRE.
really? elaborate. have they just gotten better as they have played together over the year? i would be interested to hear, because i really wanted them to be "on FIRE" at Bonnaroo....
The Hip Hop Live show in Baltimore was really cool. I haven't caught much sleep since Saturday.
ughhh, was this ghostface/rakim/brother ali w/ the rhythm roots allstars? i had tix for dc the next night, but after two shows earlier in the week and being sick, we decided to not go. it was a painful decision.
speaking of those other two shows... went to bruce last monday (verizon center, dc). we were part of the group that "won" the GA lottery and ended up 20 feet from the stage. amazing show, once in a lifetime experience. then on thursday it was neil young at constitution hall. acoustic set followed by a rockin electric set. it was neat to see him in such an intimate venue (first i'd seen him indoors!).
spring bruce dates were announced yesterday, and neil's touring through december. if you have a chance to see either, DO IT!
Debora harry, Peter Bjorn and Plain White T all playing in Indy with in the next week. I always wanted to see Devora Harry I like Peter Bjorn and not sure about Plain White T's so I dont know if I will go see them. I think umps is coming in two weeks

Yeah, that was the show. Brother Ali was the hypeman, as it were, getting the crowd going and playing most of his newest album. Ghostface was next, with posse. Fun set. Rakim lived up to his billing of legend.

I used up all my cash for a cheaper Langerado ticket. So I missed B.B. King in Lexington tonite. I have a few friends going, but if anyone else checked out his show, or any of this years tour I would like to know how it was... Thanks!

I would like to know to, since I am thinking about seeing him in Knoxville.

Well it turns out the show was a life changing experience All that my friend had to say is that it was a great show, and B.B. is the greatest story teller with a guitar and vocals.

Went to the Aesop Rock show this past Monday in Nashville. We mainly went to see Black Moth Super Rainbow who put on a great show, they'd definitely be an awesome group for roo '08!
Went to both nights of the North Mississippi Allstars Family Reunion at the Young Avenue Deli this weekend. Awesome time. Saw Amy Lavere, Jim Dickinson, Robert "Wolfman" Belfour, Alvin Youngblood Hart, and of course the Allstars themselves, plus assorted guests. Unfortunately, I missed the DDT reunion last night; I got there just after they had finished. DDT was the Dickinsons' old punkish band that they had before the Allstars. Anyways, the place was packed and a lot of fun. Next up is Dinosaur Jr. at the Deli on 12/5.

Sounds awesome! I just discovered (and fell in LOVE with!) North Mississippi Allstars this year.....would love to see a show like that!
Just got home from the Australian Pink Floyd Show. It was pretty cool. Not as good as the real thing, but a worthwhile way to spend the evening. The lights were nice.... and there were lasers.... and a pig. More details tomorrow. I have to work in 7 hours.
I saw the Australian Pink Floyd Show last night. I've seen the real thing, and there's no comparison, but they did the music justice. They were all great musicians, but how do you cover David Gilmour?
The light show was pretty good. Lasers are always fun. They had the big round screen and showed some cool video. There was the big inflatable pig (the post Waters version, with the tusks) and for the Aussies, a big inflatable kangaroo. And the mirrored ball during Comfortably numb.
The first set was Dark Side Of The Moon. The second set mixed it up. Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Welcome To The Machine, Coming Back To Life, One Of These Days, Nobody Home, On The Turning Away, Pigs (Three Differebt Ones), Something off The Final Cut, Wish You Were Here, Another Brick In The Wall, Comfortably Numb. I might be forgetting something, and that's not quite the right order, but you get the idea. The played for a little over two hours.
It would have been nice if they played some early Floyd. I've seen The Machine (another Pink Floyd cover band) a few times, and I think they played a few of the earlier songs. See Emily Play, perhaps?. Even Roger Waters busted out Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun.
It wasn't a mind blowing show, but in the right frame of mind, it's a worthwile way to spend the evening.
