DJ Shadow was extremely good last night. He mixed everything live, did his own scratching and live drumming on some tracks. Visuals were awesome and evolved throughout the show. Played several from Endtroducing and his new one. Six Days sounded great. I really have no complaints.
Main set was 1.5 hours and I think he came back out for an encore but I had to bail to be at work at 6 this morning and it was already midnight. But he was extremely humble and gracious, talked to the crowd multiple times. Really an impressive show.
He's in Nashville next Friday, make it happen if you can.
I will second all these sentiments. I saw Shadow tonight in Asheville and it was quite good. He mentioned this is his last leg before going overseas so if you can catch him then you should do it!
The stage setup here really favoured people in the middle of the floor. If you're going, try and catch one of those central spots to fully enjoy the visuals.

ohhhhhh yeah. didn't mention this in my "review" but spent the first few songs being blinded by the side stage lights that, while adding some cool effect, seemed like they were pointed at the fringes for way too long for times.
Queen + Adam Lambert last night. The show was badass. Let's start with the original members, Brian May and Roger Taylor were spectacular. It would have been worth just seeing them play. The production and light show was top notch. Lambert was great. He played the role well in his own way. There was still plenty of honoring Freddie and including him in on screen with vocals on a few songs. Lambert's stand out moment was "Who Wants to Live Forever." That boy can sing. They should release that as a single. It did suck not having Deacon there as some of the interludes and transitions could have used more bass focus as the bassist was just kinda shoveled over with the rest of the backing band.
Highlights- Stone Cold Crazy (metal rock with strobe lights what's not to like), Who Wants to Live Forever, Taylor's Drum solo, May's Guitar Solo and "Love of my life" Tribute to Freddie was tear inducing.
In short, it was a theatrical, nostalgic ride, and just a bad ass rock show. Catch it if you can, you won't regret it, esp if you have soft spot for Queen like me.
Edit: Forgot about Under Pressure- Great Duet b/t Lambert and Taylor.

Saw Kendrick and Travis Scott in Vegas last night. I saw each of them play at Coachella and this show much much better for both of them. The animatronic hawk thing that Travis Scott has is pretty badass. I'm still not a fan of his music but that set was way better than I expected. Kendrick was great as always. He played the exact same set list as Coachella (minus the guests) but it was cool to see him on his own tour. This is my 5th or 6th time seeing him but it has always been in a festival environment so it stayed pretty unique for me. He just really can't get over that "left side or right side" thing.
Just got back from my first time seein' one of my new-ish favorites called In the Valley Below and it was great! I've been a fan since their inception (as I've followed the female singer since '06) and I would highly recommend anyone into (I guess I'll call it) indie-rock-dance. The openin' band Flagship was also really good! And they're semi-local so I hope I can see more of them soon! Definitely some of the most fun I've had at a show in quite some time!
Saw Purple Reign (Prince tribute) at the Hard Rock Biloxi last weekend.
They are definitely worth checking out if you are a fan of Prince! The videos I saw on Youtube before going did not do this guy justice. He looks and sounds pretty damn close to Prince and the whole show format was on point.
Prince set > Morris Day set > Prince Set> Apollonnia songs > Prince set
The Morris Day guy killed it as well. Was fun hearing Sex Shooter live by the fake Apollonnia, had only heard it live once as an of Montreal cover back in 2011-ish.
There was like 1000 people at the show and everyone had a blast, would def see them again. Can't imagine there being any Prince tribute act that can top this.
Went to see Spoon and Portugal the Man last night. First real show in like 4 years it was great!
We left before spoon because the younguns pushing their way to the front became too annoying, and because we're old now and were ready for bed. Portugal was great though!

Washed Out was nuts last night. More bands should make visual albums, it really makes the live experience 10X better. Just a straight up Monday night dance party. One of my favorite sets of the summer.
Just got out of GRiZ's live band debut, and holy shit! Griz with a 13 piece band is fucking amazing! His regular sets don't hold a candle to this! Hopefully he brings this to some festivals next year.

His regular sets usually rule, but the live stuff should be the best. Middle kid is doing the GRiZ Rocks shows at Red Rocks this weekend. He was supposed to go to the rehearsal show last night, but scored both nights for $60 when they released a few more tickets and said **** it. I'll be at Red Rocks. I think tonight is the live band show and tomorrow is GRiZ probably with guests. Any idea who played with him? Half the jam scene is in Denver supporting Phish and after shows, so I'm sure members of Lettuce and some of his usual people. But I can't find any information anywhere as to who is in that band.

I recognized Muzzy Bear and (I think) one of the guys from big G. He never introduced the band, so I'm not sure about the rest of them.

3rd time I've seen them, definitely the best set. The visual production took a huge leap from the paracosm tour, which was basically lights and flowers all over the stage.

Saw Interpol play Turn on the Bright Lights this past week. If you're on the fence about seeing them in either NYC or LA, go check out the show! Such a treat.
Trying to make the decision to choose one of Japanese Breakfast, Deefhoof, and Big Thief (opening up for Pinegrove, was originally a HL show). Has anyone seen any combo of the three that could help me choose?

I haven't seen any of them but I'd go for the 2 for 1 Big Thief/Pinegrove.

I've seen all three this year. My vote is for Japanese Breakfast.

Big Thief was horrible at FYF, they were still sound-checking almost 20 minutes into a 45 minute set and sounded so bad when they actually started that I left after 3 songs. I've also heard they recently lost their lead guitar player. Take that as you will.

updated w/ supporting act.
Just saw Big Thief this past weekend. I've seen them a handful of times and was bored to tears. That said, I had a friend who saw them the next night and loved them. You'd walk away from Mannequin Pussy thinking they are the greatest band ever (but I believe playing SOS in November? So that might be moot). Japanese Breakfast on the other hand is not and freaking incredible live. Thor & Friends is on my must see in 2018 list because I've never seen them live. Deerhoof is fun but forgettable.
I forgot to mention this, but I saw Lupe Fiasco a month or two ago and it was easily one of the most entertaining rap shows I've seen. I feel like it's hard to keep the audience engaged when it's just a guy with a mic on stage, but he did a good job of it and rapped his ass off.

The guitarist in Kevin Morby's band, Meg Duffy, is like Duane Allman at times.
I can't remember which stream of his I watched, I think it was Prima, and she was pretty impressive. She's got another project I've wanted to check out, Hand Habits.
