That My Morning Jacket show was actually one of the best I've seen since MSG NYE'10 - and people are totally sleeping on Shabazz Palaces (maybe it was the crowd though - you would think it would be more diverse in Williamsburg... but maybe the cost of the show vs. intended crowd focus didn't work out). It would have been even better if Doodlebug was with them for vocals, but I was happily surprised with how much complicated stuff the duo still gets in.
Also I will never ever ever understand how people leave an afternoon/non-LN show before the end. People were dispersing at the end of MMJ - they were doing a Prince cover!?! how dare you leave bro.

Saw Black Joe Lewis last night for the first time since Bonnaroo11 at the Asheville Music Hall. It was so much fun and the energy was amazing. Two hours of him ripping solos and an amazing horn section.
Saw Amon Tobin: ISAM 2.0 in Portland last night. I've been waiting a long time to see ISAM and it was pretty great. I guess 2.0 has a setup that's twice as large and contains some music that's dancier than what was in the original incarnation. It was a full sensory experience and felt like a lot more than just a music show. I would really, really love to see this at an outdoor festival next summer. Please, Roo.

Phil Lesh had a weekend of "rambles" at his club - Terrapin Crossroads. I made the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday shows. On Friday, Marco Benevento came out and did a song with the band, which includes his old Duo mate, Joe Russo. Dan Deacon is coming to Mobile in December, gonna catch him then.
I saw Dead Can Dance at the Ryman tuesday night and it was one of the best shows that I have ever seen. The sound in that place is absolutely incredible, and I can't imagine a better venue to see them. Lisa Gerrard's voice melted my mind.
The Jesus and Mary Chain show last night in NOLA was meh. The opening band was good though...The Psychic Paramount. We bought their newest rekkid.

We thought Jim was going to have a meltdown on stage. He couldn't hear his vocals in the monitor and kept biznatching about it and holding his fingers to his ears. They only played for a quacking hour. They didn't have any tour t-shirts, just f'n regular shirts with no tour dates. dumbasses.

Saw Rush tonight in Manchester NH. What a weird setlist. Very heavy on the new album, sort of expected. Very heavy on 1983-1997 era stuff, coulda done better here.
After Subdivisions opening, I was lost for much of the next two hours. Only towards the end did they pick up with stuff most people are familiar with: YYZ, Tom Sawyer, Spirit of Radio, and Working Man. (Not in that order.)

Mahler's Eighth at the Nashville Symphony last night.
Brought the house down.
Nice. The Eighth is always more impressive live because of the sheer number of people involved. I prefer the Fifth on record, but definitely the Eighth live. Bravo.
I'm hoping to catch Deacon in either Minneapolis or Portland. I dig the new album and I want to see him with a band again. Dude always puts on a great show. Did a lot of people at the show use that phone sync app he put out?

Saw Edward Sharpe in Eugene, OR tonight. First time seeing my favorite live band in just over two years. They were kinda sloppy but still brought so much life to the show and created a bunch of great moments. Can't wait to see them again and hopefully at Roo.

YACHT and Hot Chip tonight. Two of my favorites and it was a perfect show. Third time seeing both bands and they still enthralled me. I thought about Roo a lot during Hot Chip. The energy there was the best I've felt at a concert in a long time. If we can somehow get a Hot Chip -- Cut Copy late night I will lose my mind.

Gafrab, you've been killing it with the live music. I'm recalling your epic Lolla - Red Rocks - OSL trip.
Anyway, saw The Heavy last night in some little crappy dive spot in Austin. I know they're not a huge name by any means, but I really think they're primed to hit the Roo/Coachella type festivals as an early afternoon tent now. Their new album, The Glorious Dead, is terrific (in my humble opinion), and they bring awesome energy live.
The opener, The Silent Comedy, had me 100% entertained as well.
In the airport now waiting on flight to Michigan for the MSU - Notre Dame game. Pretty killer weekend when I combine my 2 greatest passions: live music and college football.
Saw Built To Spill in a little club last week. They completely rocked the place, but you couldn't hear Doug at all. They were very nice and gave my friends and brother a couple of their setlists, but they didn't answer my question about attending ROO.
They said a new album drop in December, so you never know.
Godsmack down at spac . They played an extended set due to poppa roach pulling out. They were decent I've seen them before multible times and unfortunately they play the same set unless they have an album they are promoting.

Saw Lightning Bolt on Saturday. Amazing as always. Spent the show in the pit, made it to the stage about halfway through. Then I spent Sunday marveling at the amount of bruises on my arms. Totally worth it.

I was at this show too. Truly beautiful. It was a great set, and like Gibson said, the crowd was just soaking the whole thing. When Justin opened the show looping and messing with just his vocals, I heard nothing but him. Spectacular.
