So I saw MGMT tonight for pretty much the first time (caught 2 songs after NIN at roo 09)
Now it was a good show, I really enjoyed it. But overall... As I discussed with my friend after the show, I normally rate live performances on 4 main factors: Stage show/theatrics/lighting, Stage presence, Execution and Improvisation, and Favorability (how much I enjoyed the artist and how invested in them I was to begin with) I'd rate mgmt as follows: Stageshow/theatrics/lighting: 6 Stage precense: 3 Execution and Improvisation: 8 Favoribility:8
So this show gets a solid 6.25..better than average at least
I said it then, I'll say it now; MGMT took me by surprise at Roo 08. Pretty good show.
I always hear this from people. I missed them in '08, it was my first Roo, I was busy who-knows-where exploring and I had no idea who MGMT was at that time
I just say Pretty Lights at the Tabernacle in Atlanta. It was an overall awesome night. The tickets said the show started at 9 (which it did) but the flyers and Tabernacle thought that it was at 7 so everyone got there early. We brought a grill and tailgated in the parking lot for a few hours, met some cool people, got 2 floor seats for dave from them, then we made our way inside. At about 9:30 MiM0SA came out and did a very fun set. At about 10:45 Pretty Lights came out and it was insane! They had a 2 hour set til almost one. Amazing night. They need to come back to roo.
I was at that Avett Bros show last night. I couldn't have written a better setlist if I tried. When Scott came out and did Murder in the City my night was complete.

Damn, I've been to so many shows in the past month. All were wonderful. I'm gonna justl ink my pics Tallest Man on Earth-good show but I only stayed for about 5 songs, just enough to get a few shots. The guitarist for Bon Iver opened the show. www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=528279&id=557350033&l=6ac1326868

Rush in August was amazing, Roger Waters last friday words can't describe and MMJ with their homecoming halloween show this past friday(the whole band dressed up as Col. Sanders for the encore), was the culmination of one astounding year of show's!

Gov't Mule on 10/30 at the Fox in Oakland was amazing. The first set they covered Who's Next from start to finish and it was spot on. The level of talent in that band is staggering.

Massive Attack in Dallas last night was mesmerizingly awesome. Do not miss them if you have the chance to see them.
My pictures and one of my videos are up on my page. At the moment my Canon SX1 is having lens errors so all I have is my pocket Canon, but it records great audio. Need to go ahead and get a DSLR soon.
I went and saw World Inferno Friendship Society in Brooklyn on Halloween, it was amazing! That was my first punk rock show in such a small venue. They almost literally tore the place down! Definitely check them out if you ever have the chance.

Mumford and Sons played in Dallas last night at House of Blues and it was really good. They rocked harder than I realized and brought out their opening band Cadillac sky to play with them. I missed Mumford at Glastonbury so this makes up for it. If I had to chose between the two shows I saw this week I would still pick Massive attack, but they were both awesome.

Joanna Newsom in Dallas last night was amazing. If everyone could play the harp like that, the world would be a much better place. Don't miss the chance to see her if you get the chance. You can't compare her to anyone.
I saw Social Distortion at the Tabernacle in Atlanta last night. They absolutely killed it. The have a piano/organ/accordion player they brought on tour. We need them to play at Roo. Just as good as my first "real" show ever (Social Distortion at the Tabernacle back in 2006)
Mumford and Sons played in Boston last night, and these guys are just really great. I had missed them at Bonnaroo, so this makes up for it. Just would have been nicer if there weren't loads of idiots nearby talking the entire time... what did you come to a concert for then?
As said earlier, Cadillac Sky came out at the end and played a couple songs (King Charles too). I sense the theme - Dave Rawlings and Gillian Welch apparently came out at Roo, who were before M&S.
I saw Patti Smith at the Metropolitan Museum of Art last weekend, and she was fantastic! ...although she did forget the lyrics to her own songs at a couple of points, haha. About half the show was spoken word poetry - both her own work as well as work by greats such as Samuel Taylor Coleridge and Robert Louis Stevenson. I thought that was really cool, and something I wish more artists incorporated into their shows. The whole show was designed as a reaction piece to an exhibit in the museum featuring artwork made during Kublai Khan's reign, and if I understand correctly, some of Patti Smith's poems were written specifically for the show in response to the artwork. She read poetry exclusively for the first half hour, and then a few more poems scattered throughout her set.
I was really impressed by how well she can still wail in her early 60's. She had a fantastic, small backing band that included her daughter on piano. And Lenny Kaye came out for a bunch of songs as well! Her set included a lot of covers, including "I'm Only Sleeping", "Puff the Magic Dragon" and "It's a Dream". There were as many covers as originals, I think. The highlights of her own songs were "Because the Night" and "People Have the Power", the latter of which closed out her set. For an encore, she read another poem, did a Leadbelly song and then an amazing version of Dancing Barefoot. I only wish that it had been a smidge longer, featuring more original songs - there were a handful of favorites I was upset I didn't get to hear ("Gloria", "Privilege (Set Me Free)", "Land"), but that's usually the case anyway. Has Patti ever played Roo? She's got to come to the farm!
Caught The Black Crowes fer the second time on their "indefinite hiatus" tour. Damn did they rock out at the 9:30 Club! Wish I could see 'em again tonight but I am broke as a joke. Had the sold-out crowd dancin' our asses off! Catch these guys while you can, folks, 'cause it'll probably be some 3 or so years before they decide to get back together.

I saw Baroness, Lamb of God and Metallica in Sydney, Australia for two shows last week.
Baroness were just amazing for both shows, most of the crowd didn't know who they were but really seemed to enjoy them. John's intensity on stage just draws you in and is very intoxicating. I was standing about 2 rows back from the rail for both shows which was really nice.
Lamb of God really kind of sucked for both shows and I actually put in ear plugs because it was just really loud noise to me...... Their fans were really into the show though.....
Metallica were amazing. I thought the first show was great, but the second night was 10 times better and the energy from the band and the fans was incredible. They played One, Orion, No Leaf Clover and Stone Cold Crazy (Queen cover) which all made my night. I was lucky enough to stand on the road boxes at the sound board so I had a great view. And I managed to get both set-lists ;D
