I saw the Australian Pink Floyd Show last night. I've seen the real thing, and there's no comparison, but they did the music justice. They were all great musicians, but how do you cover David Gilmour?
The light show was pretty good. Lasers are always fun. They had the big round screen and showed some cool video. There was the big inflatable pig (the post Waters version, with the tusks) and for the Aussies, a big inflatable kangaroo. And the mirrored ball during Comfortably numb.
The first set was Dark Side Of The Moon. The second set mixed it up. Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Welcome To The Machine, Coming Back To Life, One Of These Days, Nobody Home, On The Turning Away, Pigs (Three Differebt Ones), Something off The Final Cut, Wish You Were Here, Another Brick In The Wall, Comfortably Numb. I might be forgetting something, and that's not quite the right order, but you get the idea. The played for a little over two hours.
It would have been nice if they played some early Floyd. I've seen The Machine (another Pink Floyd cover band) a few times, and I think they played a few of the earlier songs. See Emily Play, perhaps?. Even Roger Waters busted out Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun.
It wasn't a mind blowing show, but in the right frame of mind, it's a worthwile way to spend the evening.
Thanks for the info chefchick. I'm actually going to see them on monday and have no idea how they are.
What happens if my tee shot lands on a bird's back and he carries it out of bounds but then is attacked by a larger bird who grabs the ball and drops it in the hole? Is that still a hole in one? 'Cause that's how I'm gonna play it.
Speaking of cover bands, I Just got home from the Dark Star Orchestra show at the 9:30 Club here in Washington DC. They did an 89 show I forget the exact date and venue, but wow what a second set. My favorites from the show were Terrapin and Stella Blue.

The Machine blew my mind tonight. With the help of Lucy, of course. They played for 4 hours... More to come later, including pictures. Now comes much needed sleep

Ok... so now that I've rested and slowly pieced my brain back together, I can give a more in depth review. I don't have the setlist but it was pretty solid, they played a lot of older stuff which was sweet to hear.
Now, I've never seen Floyd live... but this show is as close as I think I'll ever get. From the beginning, when they cut the lights and heard the very first note of Shine On You Crazy Diamond hit my ears I knew I was in for an epic night! Every song was spot on as far as I could tell, and the light show...
...oh man the lights! ;D ;D
At one point there was a sweet display on the side wall of the auditorium with the silhouette of the lead singer amongst some nifty spinning lights (atleast I think they were really spinning... )
Overall it was an incredible show... probably the best I've seen since the Flips at Roo this summer. I was a little sad that they never played Money, but they nailed every other song I could have hoped for so I can't be too picky. I took TONS of pictures, I may post them online soon if anyone's interested.
Perpetual Groove at the Culture Room in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Good show. I don't have a setlist, but I'm sure I can find one. I saw them at the Culture Room last year, and caught a bit of their set at Echo. I think this time around they may have made a fan out of me.
Our next show is "The Word" at the Electric Factory in Philly.. I'm excited,Then if funds allow it we will see Railroad Earth@ Penns Peak. Thats real close too... awsome place to see a show

I demand that you give me instructions on how to take such incredible photos this spring. It's necessary, and I might pay you in corn. Awesome pics! Glad you made the trip out there
Saw Cadillac Jones last night at The Variety Playhouse in Atlanta. These guys seriously need to come to Bonnaroo. They blew my mind at how good they are.

I did NOT see a very intimate, extremely cheap show by Matmos here in Baltimore (apparently they've moved to our fair city). It was Saturday night, and we had just gotten back from the hospital. I love my daughter to death, but I do wish I could've seen Matmos...
Cake & Brazilian Girls aka Unlimited Sunshine last Monday. It was a good show, but I didn't like the venue, DAR Constitution Hall. Well worth the ticket price but would have enjoyed it more if it had been somewhere else.
Next up is The Word on the Saturday after Christmas. THAT show will be stellar.

Saw Stevie Wonder at the Jobing.com Arena in Glendale (Just outside of Phoenix). It was the best Birthday present I have received in awhile. Yes, he played his pop hits (He closed with "I Just Called to say I Love You), duetted with his diva daughter and invited Mike Tyson up on stage at the end, but it was still one of the best shows I've seen, and the best I've seen in an arena (It was actually sounded good on the floor). Worst thing were the $10 beers (thank god for pocket shots). Best thing was the vocodor jam that wound up on "Say It Loud (I'm Black and Proud"). He would be great in James Brown's Roo slot from 2003.
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it
Just got home from seeing Office with The 1900s. The 1900s completely stole the show for me. Musically they were great. I have the album (Cold & Kind) and its good. But going into the show I only had the hope that their live show would step it up and get me more involved. That is exactly what happened. Now that I've seen them I cant wait to go back and listen to everything all over again.
If you get the chance; see them. They may not be a great fit for 'roo but they are a great show to see in a smallish sized venue.
I saw The Machine last night. I'm still recovering. Those guys kick-ass! The first set was spot-on Floyd, the second set got more improvisational and groovy. ...and of course the lights were great ;D All in all a fabulous time.
but wow... I feel like I went toe to toe with a Mack truck...
Saw Ozzy and Rob Zombie a few nights ago. I won the silent auction for Sharon Osbourne's Colon Cancer fund and got myself a pair of signed drumsticks from Mike Bordin - he is ex- faith no more and is now ozzy's live band drummer.
both were great. rob zombie really plays up the no-apologies rock. he has fire, dancers, costumes, giant robots... its great.
Ozzy is good too - getting a little old. but maybe more disturbing than ever. his live show consists of him screaming
i want to see your fucking hands! i fucking love you all, man! go fucking crazy for me!
then he shoots people with foam. runs around, claps... a good time!

I saw the Foo Fighters last night in Ft Lauderdale. It was the first show of the tour, and they are off to a good start. Dave was happy to be back out in front of an audience and it really showed.
Against Me was the first band. We missed the beginning of their set, but what I heard, I liked. Not a wow, but good. I'll have to listen to some more.
Jimmy Eat World was the next band. They were alright. A word of advice..... know what city yo're playing in. "What's up Miami?"
I was impressed with the Foo Fighters. This was my first time seeing them. I like them, but I'm not a die hard fan. It was nice that I knew most of the songs, even though I don't really have too much of their music in my collection.
About halfway through the show, a small circular stage dropped down from the ceiling onto the rear of the floor of the arena, right in front of us. The band came out and did an accoustic set. They played for a full two hours, which was a nice surprise given that there were two opening bands and they didn't start until 10:00.
