Went to a little electronic fest on Saturday. It was pretty cool, Sam Feldt was awesome, The Gaslamp Killer was good (he opened with fucking Fuzz!), Lido was cool, he was a lot different from your average DJ, Classixx was pretty fun as well. All in all it was fun and they got some dope names for their second year of the fest! Hope it keeps coming back
Then I saw Chic w Nile Rodgers and Duran Duran at Red Rocks on Sunday night. Chic was great although their sound was a bit off for the first couple songs. Duran Duran was pretty boring to be honest.
Mark Knopfler last night... Was fucking amazing! His band is an amazing group of musicians and he lets them jam and Mark still fucking shreds on the guitar. He blew Chic and Duran Duran out of the water.
2017: 2/24 Twenty One Pilots 4/1 Radiohead 6/7 Glass Animals 9/10 Modest Mouse 9/21 Arcade Fire 9/29 Kings of Leon 10/3 Foster the People 10/17 The xx 10/22 LCD Soundsystem 11/8 Bon Iver
Saw Van Halen last week and it was good but Eddie Van Halen played a 10 minute guitar solo and it blew my mind. One of the best guitar performances i've ever witnessed. Also saw the Black Lips a couple days before that and they were great as usual. I left very sweaty. Got the setlist too.

Vince Staples last night was really good. One of the better rap shows I've seen. It was a headlining off-show from his opener spot on the A$AP/Tyler tour. He played about an hour, hit all the biggest tracks (except Lemme Know). Really good flow live even though he said he had been struggling with some asthma issues earlier in the day. He was really funny too, did some crowd work in between songs almost like he was a stand up comedian. He should be a Thursday night tent closer.

Some amazing shows this weekend at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. Friday's highlight was billed as:
"Big Star's Third - featuring Kronos Quartet, Van Dyke Parks, Jody Stephens, Mike Mills, Chris Stamey, Ken Stringfellow, Pat Sansone, Ralph Carney, Audley Freed, Brett Harris, Skylar Gudasz, plus an orchestral ensemble; and special guest singers Steve Earle, Robyn Hitchcock, Chatham County Line, Chuck Prophet, Luther Russell & Kelley Stoltz"
So fucking awesome. If you're a fan of the album and ever get a chance to catch one of these, don't miss it. If you're not a fan of the album, listen to it anyway and then go.
Later that night, I caught The Word at the Fillmore. I love me some Word.
Couldn't make it to HSB on Saturday, but Sunday's highlights included Fantastic Negrito (returning triumphantly after trouble with the cops caused him to miss his slot at Outside Lands), Ben Miller Band (best electric spoons solo ever!), and Los Lobos (who seem to throw in their cover of Bertha for the Deadheads whenever they play in the Bay Area).
i saw bully on saturday night. the openers were boring, but bully was great. her voice sounded so great live, and the crowd was really into it. there were a surprising amount of middle aged women who knew every word.
Vince Staples last night was great. It was just him and a DJ and he rapped his face off. Great stage stage presence too. He joked around with the crowd a lot but it wasn't annoying or distracting. He led a "Free Gucci" chant which is a pretty easy way to win over an Atlanta crowd.
I was surprised it wasn't more packed though. He was at a 600ish person venue and it was about half to two-thirds full. The crowd still got super crazy for big songs like Norf Norf and Blue Suede though. If you like his music definitely go see him if he's close by.

But what if Father John Misty is playing at the same time? These are the type of decisions I am faced with.
Definitely see Father John Misty over Vince Staples. For one he has a deeper song library. Vince's show was only a little over an hour. And FJM just puts on a better show. He's most recent tour with the bigger band is freaking awesome. Nothing against Vince but he's second best in this scenario.
Funnily enough though both of them kind of have the same hilarious, slightly antagonistic stage banter so you're in for a similar show no matter which you pick.

Yeah, I'm sure I'll see FJM since it's been a couple of years since I last saw him perform live. I'm tempted to go the other route since Vince is playing on the smaller stage at ACL and I know it will be crunk. Actually that Austin Ventures stage is where I saw my first FJM performance back in 2012. Great show.

I mean, you can't really go wrong. During the VS show I thought it would be a really fun day time hip hop set at Bonnaroo. So he'd probably be an excellent set to see at ACL too.
But I gotta say the FJM tour this time around was leaps and bounds better than the first few times I saw him (which I also loved).
Tame Impala was amazing last night. Only problem was they way oversold the venue. That was the most crowded I have seen Terminal 5 since the LCD farewell shows. Just wall to wall people, barely room to breathe.
Still worth it though. I was bummed they didn't play Solitude is Bliss, but I still heard everything else I wanted to hear. Can't wait to catch them again.

Autechre was a little disappointing last night. I mean the music was great and its always nice to see an electronic act that doesn't just bombard you with lights the whole time, but they only played for about 35-40 minutes. I probably wouldn't care as much if it wasn't such a good show.

Got to see Beats Antique last night for the first time. Didnt really know what to expect walking in, but damn I walked away impressed! What a fun show! Moon Hooch opened for them and they were fantastic as well.

What exactly do they do live? I don't see them as the type to just push play but the music is generally so robotic and alien sounding I'm curious as to... well as to how they make the sound come out.
Bummer it was a short set but still cool you got to see them.

It was hard to tell. There wasn't any stage lighting so the only lights were over by the bar area. Also all of their gear was kinda blocked from my view (not that I would be able to tell you what it was or exactly what they did with it) by a couple of speakers, so I just closed my eyes and listened. Really great show just wish it was a bit longer.

Anyone see Kraftwerk this tour? I expected a great show, but they totally blew me away a few nights ago. Huge sound and incredible 3D visuals. Easily up there in my favorite shows of the year.
And it ended early enough to run across town and catch most of Ride! It was great to see them at a club instead of a huge festival.
This month has been pretty wild so far. The Zombies doing Odessey and Oracle was spectacular and A Place To Bury Strangers were fucking loud and crazy.

Its a bummer that they've dropped two of their big songs that used to be live staples: Solitude and Half Full Glass of Wine. The latter really hurts because that always used to be my highlight during the pre-Currents shows.
Thurs- Ghost: Fanbase was cheesy, def got an ICP/Slipknot vibe off of everything but had a great time.
Fri- Danzig with a series of unimpressive openers (Superjoint Ritual, Prong, Veil of Maya) Danzig didn't sound very good but the show was a lot of fun. Fri- latenight- Golden Dawn Arkestra- Show kicked a lot of ass. Had to leave early bc gf got schwilled.
Sat- Golden Dawn Arkestra again at Shed BBQ/Blues fest. Weird place to see such a trippy band. They sounded great and clearly blew the minds of many of the rednecks in attendence. Royal Southern Brotherhood afterwards was f'n badass. Perfect place to see them and they brought the heat. Shook Cyril Neville's hand before they played and got to wish him a happy birthday (67). Great weekend
Had a great time at The Sword/Kadavar/All Them Witches show the other night. Got to meet up with FuzzyWarbles so that's always a plus as well!
All 3 acts were amazing. I'd probably have to give the edge to ATW, but that's probably bc their studio stuff speaks to me more. Hometown crowd that was into it made it even better.

That was probably the most fun I had all weekend. I just wish I had gotten to the venue earlier. Strangely, no one seemed to want to mosh with you.
Ha, I was trying to stay out of it. I usually find a spot at the edge of the pit on shows like that. Gets me a good spot, and I can act like a wall to protect the people out of the mosh pit. I consider it my compensation for blocking the views of the people behind me
But ya, that show kicked some serious ass. Picked up a vinyl from ATW, and chatted with their drummer and singer for a minute. Really nice dudes and when I told them I first saw them at Bonnaroo they said they had a really fun time at the show.
