Thought I'd add one of my favorite smaller fests to the board...at Bill Monroe's Bean Blossom Music Park. Any music fan should make a pilgrimage at some point to this fabulously beautiful and musically historical site. No better time than f.u.n.k. fest weekend!!! The nature workshops and up-close music workshops with some of the performers make it extra special. This year's dates are Aug 30-Sep 1 (my birthday! even better!)

(actually, the Bluegrass Fest is the best time to be in Bean Blossom, but unfortunately it conflicts with 'roo...went practically every year of my life until 'roo started, but no more!)
i almost went to funk fest last year. how was umphreys??? they are the reason i wanted to go. unfortunatly its the same weekend as fall hookahville and moedown this year. so i doubt i will make it. wish i could. but im sure iw ill be at one of those. i have heard nothing but good things though. i hate fests on the same weekend. they would do better if they planned it out together. there are plenty of empty weekends.
I've seen only about 8-10 Umphrey's shows, but have downloaded many many more, and f.u.n.k. '06 is hands down the best I've heard them play. Soooo tight all the way through, and with Joshua Redman on sax for the entire 2nd set, it was like two completely different shows - heavy funk for the 1st set, jazz for the 2nd. Victor Wooten joined them for Jimmy Stewart - he's incredible if you haven't seen him. It's his fest really...evolved out of his Bass Camps.
damn. they sell that show but i cant find it for download anywhere. sounds like a great show. i see they busted out a 14 minute shine on you crazy diamond for the encore. how was that?? awesome id imagine. i might have to break down and buy this one. if i had a credit card i would have already impulse purchased it. im glad i have the will power to stay away from even getting credit cards because i dont have the will power to use it properly. sucks when ya wanna get some tix or a show off the net though.
One of the people I met at All Good last year was talking about this festival and handing out flyers for it. He new I was a huge Umphreak so he was telling me about it and it sounded great. Unfortunately like dude said it's the same weekend as moe.down which is only 2 hours from where I live. moe.down is just too easy and would cost me far less, otherwise I would really consider going to this.
just got done listening to it. that second set was the shit. damn good show. ive got the soundboard. if anyone is interested in getting it let me know and ill sendspace it.
