Got got my hands on one of these yesterday. What a great beer. I'm not into the rye stouts so much but being Bournon County I had to give it a try. Probably the smoothest 13.5% beer I've ever had.
You got a Rye variant? Groovy! I got a bottle of Rare and regular BCBS sittin' in my closet right now.
Also on vacay right now and might come home with some tasty stuff tomorrow.
I also have the coffee stout but I haven't tried it yet. I tend to come across them when I don't look, like at random liquor stores in far out suburbs.. Last year the United Center had bourbon country on tap. Watching the Hawks while enjoying something other than a miller light at a sporting event was amazing. Not sure if they're doing that again but it seemed most people at the game did not care about the beer which was just fine with me.
Alyssa, that coffee variant is the one I really wanted to try! But I heard our ABC didn't approve any of the BCBS variants this year in NC.
So I was up at Massanutten Resort outside Harrissonburg, VA this weekend and got to stop at a few of the local breweries. Pale Fire was a very new brewery, I think the bartender said they'd been open fer only four months. I had their double IPA and just their regular. Both decent, but I would've liked a little more hops in the DIPA. We also checked out Brothers which had a great DIPA and BBA stout that I also snagged a bottle of. Wanted to check out the bottle shop their as my friend checked it out one day while on vacay with me and my girl, and he found bottles of Stone's Xocoveza still on the shelf, but time did not permit.
But passin' through Danville, VA there was a shop that was supposed to be carryin' Lazy Magnolia Brewery outta MS (and they don't distribute anywhere near me), so I had to stop. They used to be in the Brewers Tent fer a few years and had one of my all time favorite beers Southern Pecan, but I haven't had it since 2012 I think in TN. Unfortunately they were sold out, but did have bombers of their 10th anniversary brew inspired by Southern Pecan! So I'ma give that a whirl. They also had some other rare stuff I haven't seen like Ballast Point's Peppermint Victory at Sea and Hardywood's Christmas Morning which sounded delicious (a gingerbread, coffee, imperial milk stout). So still a happy endin'!
And a big thanks again roro, that Pinchy Jeek was amazin'! Haven't broken into the BBA Sexual Chocolate yet, but I know it will delight!

You may bump into me up in Harrisonburg, too. I grew up there, and still have family in that area. When we were there over the holidays, my parents had a 6 of the Brothers Great Outdoors Pale Ale. Like you r experience with Pale Fire, it was not nearly hoppy enough for me. I've only had one of the Pale Fire brews, and I cannot think of the name right now.
We broke into the BBA SC on Christmas because ... well, because. It is still great.
A fairly interesting discussion that has been coming up a lot throughout the craft beer world lately and I would be interested to hear your guys' takes. Do you actively avoid a micro-brewery after it has been purchased by one of the big boys (mostly ab-bev)?

Depends on the degree of takeover and how recent it was. If I know the people responsible for the good product are either still manning the vats or will continue to, then I'll still patronize them. Otherwise, no.
I think they lost a lease somewhere (Chelsea?) and just decided to stop.
They were contract brewing, so I'm not sure how that would have played into things, but either way, it sucks. Boston has been really fortunate in that it is able to sustain all the brewing companies it has. It doesn't sound from this like the bubble is going to burst, but it's something to be concerned about, especially with two enormous craft brewers dominating the region.

Depends.
I try to avoid Coors products the best I can. For the others, it depends on quality and if it remains good product after the sale.

The interesting thing is two of the most recent purchases in the West are both breweries I think are relatively low quality compared to others near them. Four Peaks in Phoenix is decent but not even a top ten in the state as far as I'm concerned, its mostly fairly unadventurous and unremarkable beer (which I suppose makes them prime for mass distribution). The other is Breckenridge in CO (the best beer state in the country as far as i'm concerned) which I actively dislike.

This's generally the same way I feel.
I hope my local brewery Gizmo continues to knock it outta the park. Their three standards are okay, but their seasonal offerin's are amazin'! And they're so small they like to do a lot of experimental stuff to see if it works. They just released a peanut butter brown ale that is incredible. It lacks the sweetness of the peanut butter and chocolate beers like Terrapin and DuClaw. Much more nutty. They only released 50 bottles...so I bought three! I've got one in the fridge now and two in my closet to save fer rainy days. And in a few months they release their stupid-delicious blueberry saison. Might try and sneak a bottle or two onto The Farm!
There's a couple hard root beers from last year's Quack Club still left in my basement stash, but I finally finished off my half of the leftover regular beers from QC 2015.
The last one was a Two Roads Ol' Factory Pilsner, courtesy of Bonzai, dated April 16th last year.

I had a couple Jackalope beers in Nashville this weekend. Holy hell were they good. The Chai-Walker was outstanding and I would drink the Snowman Stout and the Leghorn Rye all the time if I could.

Jackalope is just ok in my opinion, Southern Grist that just opened is killing it though. Crazy to think we have over 11 breweries in town now.

If Jackalope is just ok then Nashville is pretty beer spoiled. I'll have to keep my eye out for Southern Grist. Do y'all have more breweries opening soon? Your beer laws are so much better than Georgia's you'll have to outpace Atlanta sooner rather than later.

On July 1st our beer laws get amazing the high grav threshold moves to 10.2 abv. Also I am almost positive we have more breweries than Atlanta already holler if you are in town again and I will take you out drinking. To me the highlights of the new stuff are Mantra in Franklin that does Indian spiced beers and Smith and Lentz which is a small producer over in East Nashville. All that being said we have nothing on Asheville though in terms of being an awesome beer city.

Lucky you on the ABV thing! I'll definitely give you a shout when I'm around Nashville again. I've got friends out that way so I wind up there every now and then.
Also funny you should mention Asheville because I'm headed there for a friend's wedding this coming weekend. I'm beer spoiled this month.

You gotta try Green Man, and the Funkatorium (24 sours/funks on draft), also Burial is amazing and they have free food.

Thanks! I love Green Man and the Funkatorium/Wicked Weed in general. I've never had Burial though so I think that's the first stop.
