I have flown to Bonnaroo the last two years. I took the shuttle both times and would highly recommend it. I really haven't heard any negative reviews of the shuttle service. This pretty much sums it up.
Quote:Nashville International Airport (BNA)
There will be shuttles ($60 roundtrip) running to the farm on thursday (and i think friday) and from the farm starting monday morning. You check in and exchange your ticket for a bracelet and guide at the baggage claim, go outside and then wait in line for the next shuttle (it'll be obvious). Once it's your turn to get on you'll jam your luggage into the compartments under the bus and hop on board. It will then whisk you off for a less than one hour drive to the farm, bypass the million car line on the highway and drop you off right inside, near tent only/VIP.
Flying isn't a bad gig at all, imo. |
|
For those of you considering this option, here is the information you need.
This is the link to the official shuttle page where you can purchase tickets for the shuttle as well as book the other travel packages. http://www.targetsport.com/bonnaroo/travel2008.html
The shuttles will run approximately as follows. Thursday June 12 between 8:30am and 9:30pm Friday June 13, 2007 between 8:30am and 3:00pm The first shuttle on June 16 will depart Bonnaroo at 6:00am and arrive at the Nashville Airport at approx. 7:45am.
I flew in early and stayed in Nashville Wednesday night at a motel near the airport. I was able to shop for last minute supplies, and was on the first round of buses Thursday morning. Both years, I was on the farm by 11:00 am.
Shopping for supplies near the airport. These stores are located less than 2 miles from the terminal, and are within walking distance of each other. Maybe a $6 cab ride each way. The beer store has a nice selection of canned beer.
Here's a map http://tinyurl.com/3hjxja
Kmart (615) 889-5112 530 Donelson Pike, Nashville, TN 37214
Walgreens (615) 883-4706 518 Donelson Pike, Nashville, TN 37214
Donelson Pike Liquors (615) 889-2858 519 Donelson Pike, #101, Nashville, TN 37214
Smoke & Ale (615) 889-1821 www.smokeandale.com 519 Donelson Pike, Nashville, TN 37214
There are also several motels and restaurants in this area. Many of the motels provide shuttle service to and from the airport. The Super 8 was decent. The Red Roof Inn was kinda dirty.

Thanks for this. I'm coming into Nashville Wednesday night by Greyhound and my friends and I will probably find a hotel close to the airport so we can get on the shuttle first thing Thursday morning.

FYI on the Nashville greyhound station, keep your eye on your luggage. When I was there last year it seemed fine but someone there warned me that luggage can vanish there.

Just a quick note. Last year I took the shuttle and arrived at the airport in Nashville at about 3pm and left on the 3:30 shuttle. My shuttle was the last one they let through the million car line up, we did have to pass the exit, go about 10 miles, turn around, and go 10 miles back the other direction, but they at least let us off the exit of the farm without the line. All the shuttles after the 3:30pm one on Thursday last year I was told had to wait in the super long line to get off the freeway. Moral of the story: Fly in Early if you can.

What a funny coincidence, Sparklybecca. I was the guy with the curly hair at the front of the bus who was arguing with the bus driver to NOT get into that line of traffic and talked him into trying to pull off of the exit where the WalMart was.

so to make a long story short i got a free flight to Bonnaroo but unfortunately my flight returning on Monday the 16th leaves at 6:00 AM from Nashville....I know the shuttle and Greyhound don't run at 3:00 in the morning....just thought I'd start throwing it out there that I need a ride after Sunday nights festivities/early early Monday morning. Crazyness....
I'm still gonna try to change my returning flight if something opens up....

This story is really, really light on details, but the upshot of it is that American Airlines is going to start charging $15 for your FIRST checked bag, beginning June 15 (Sunday of Bonnaroo): http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/....t.14f22ce7.html
Luckily, if you've already bought your ticket, looks like you'll be excused from the fee: http://consumerist.com/tag/airlines/?i=5....ticket-purchase
Regardless, these things, if they don't go away in a day or two after bad publicity, have a tendency to be quickly adopted by other airlines. Pack light for the flight home if you haven't yet bought your ticket, guys.

Karma for the reminder.
I just bought my shuttle tickets/reservations/whatever you wanna call em'. Anyone who is planning on taking the shuttle may wanna buy their tickets online. If you buy them on spot you have to pay an extra $10 (that extra ten can buy you a gyro or cheesesteak and one of those frozen lemonade drinks....yummy)

What's everybody doing about food/beer/water/shade? I'm hoping to be able to check a cooler of beer on the plane. I might see if I can squeeze in some food, but it's probably vendor food and free well water for me. I might talk to some of the folks in the helping hands thread, but I don't want to rely on others for necessities. Not that I distrust their intentions, but we all know how well carefully laid plans hold up at Bonnaroo.
Southwest still allows 2 free checked bags, which is clutch.

I mean how do you pack for a plane trip to camp. I mean do you check your tent... and one other bag then have a carry on or what. cause I'm considering this and would appreciate advise.

I'm flying in from Minneapolis and the best deal on a flight is set to arrive in Nashville at 3:04 pm... I will have to deal with a shuttle waiting in line or not, i guess, but my questions are:
-- where do i camp? tent-only? isn't that getting pretty full by that time on thursday?
-- where exactly is the stuff to get my bracelet and get on the shuttle? i know someone said it's obvious but i've never been to the nashville airport so if there is any more specific info it would be helpful to me.
thanks inforoo! helped me out a great deal in information for roo 2007 and 08!

Have you purchased your shuttle tickets already? If not, you can do it right fron the roo website. They send you all the info on the pickup/drop offs, schedule, etc.
But answer your questions, yes, the shuttle stops in Centeroo right by tent only. No idea how full it will be by the time you arrive.
Also, apparently there is a booth set up at the airport in the baggage claim area. Supposedly you pick up your bag and then go right to the desk to get your bracelet and get on the shuttle.

got the tickets and directions in the mail the other day, very clear, sounds good to me.
the question still remains though, since i don't have a car i assume that i 'should' camp in tent-only, how's the space going to be for setting up camp somewhere between 5 and 6pm thursday?

I'm sure it won't be a huge issue, but Camp Inforoo might be your best bet.

I took the shuttle down to the farm this year. It was quick, everyone on board was excited for Roo, and we didn't have to wait in the huge traffic line.
However, I do have one complaint, and that is that the shuttle service doesn't seem very well organized. On Monday morning, I asked tons of volunteers where I was supposed to go to board the shuttle, and none of them had any idea what I was talking about. I went back to where the shuttle dropped us off, but nobody there had any clue either.
At the airport, it was easy enough to find the shuttle, but down on the farm, it was impossible. I looked around for hours on Monday, lugging my bag and tent across the field, only to be pointed back in the opposite direction once I asked some volunteer. I suppose this is mostly my fault, but I was under the impression that it would pick you up right where it dropped you off.
I ended up hitching a ride back to Nashville. Next year, I may drive or I may fly, but if I fly, I will probably rent a car and drive down instead.

Hi. Sorry for the bump, I think... Anyway, I bought my shuttle ticket, but it didn't ask me for a certain time. Does this mean that it's pretty open-ended? I can pick which shuttle I board? Or are they restricted to certain time?

I made a similar post on first timer's FAQ thread, but i just saw this one and figured it would be a better place to post.
A few of us are flying into Nashville and have to leave on monday flights. We might get picked up by our friends (so we can all camp together, damn the lines) but we still would need to get back to the airport right after bonnaroo. Can i buy a shuttle pass (im fine with roundtrip if i need to) at the airport and then use it monday morning to get back to the airport? Or is it possible to buy a shuttle ticket monday morning somewhere in bonnaroo? thanks guys. wang

I'm pretty sure you'll need to get the ticket in advance and round-trip will be your only option. You might be able to sell off the single ticket, but I guess you'd need to find someone who wants to take the shuttle in and has a ride on Sunday/Monday

^Which might happen with my niece and nephew, but I won't know that until they actually book their flights. I'm going to have them take the shuttle in so they can get their wristbands and whatnot at the airport, but I might be driving them to the airport on Monday, in which case I'd have two one-way shuttle tickets available.

If there's enough people on here to warrant it, I'm sure we can make a new thread to peddle off one way shuttle tix. I'm kinda in the same boat as well. I have a ride to the farm, but not one back to the airport. 60 bucks for one way to the airport is a bit redic when it seems I could just offer someone, on their way out, some gas money to drop me off at the airport.

Danbird, if you're still in need of a ride to the airport as Roo gets closer, give me a shout. We'll be leaving the farm on Monday morning to head back to Nashville.
